Another vote for the pig. I've had a lot of smoked BBQ and they do pretty well far from home. Has the vibe changed? Yes. Do I miss that? Yes. But I do like the warmup.

You are naively conflating a broader discussion of an electronic footprint with Chinese LE's reliance on wechat to track those involved with mongering.

Sorry if I have made you upset, that was not my intention. Let me tell you I have been here in Shanghai for +5 years and played the game in many ways – incall, outcall, MP, you name it.

I also have been reading this forum (RTFF) for at least 5 years, but I can't recall reading about a normal customer getting because LE checked his WeChat. That was my reason for asking about it.

Well, you know it has happened, so I believe you.

So that is another good reason for giving especially you the advise, that using an alternative SIM card may not help you out if the LE really want to check you.

There are other ways to link your mobile phone to a specific WeChat conversation. The IMEI # is an obvious way.

Don't feel too safe just by using a different SIM card. All mobile phones are equipped with a unique IMEI number. Who knows if that information also is sent as meta data whenever you send a WeChat message? If, so you have to get rid of the mobile, not only the SIM card. Having said that I doubt that you will get in problems other than having your WeChat blocked if you write something inappropriate.

Personally I think life is too short to think of ways to hide from big brother anywhere in the world. You are not anonymous anywhere on earth. And you always make a footprint somewhere. So live with it.

Whilst food at Blind Pig on Nanyang Lu is still as bad as ever. It has never been any good since re-branding from Big Bamboo and menu totally changed. There is now a new Mexican Cantina right above BP. It looks pretty good inside but I did not try the food.

The Spot new location right next door to Judy's was absolutely hopping when first opened in May. You could not get a seat in there. July 6 which was first night Judy re-opening the place was deserted and they were all not next door in Judy's. Strange indeed.

I buy sim cards from hotel concierge, even if I'm not staying there. They're supposed to register you with your passport, but for 100 rmb many will just register it in a fake name (or their own name). Then you switch back and forth between your real account and the bogus one.

When the government arrests someone, 1st thing they do is investigate wechat conversations. Even if you delete a conversation, it's forever available to the government. Maybe I'm paranoid but prefer to err on the side of caution. Too many contributors to this thread have faced arrest and detention.

Not possible within a single account, but you can create two accounts (I think you'll need different telephone numbers, but you can always register in another country with a pre-pay sim. Then create an account & password, and you won't need to use the sms login again. This also adds a layer of protection of your real identity in case a provider / agent is compromised, but who knows just how much information wechat actually has on you.

Good to hear from you! Not sure if Shanghai is still in the cards but I have been watching to see what I have been missing. As I am in my mid 50's and don't live in shanghai, I always loved the appeal of J / M. Its one of the few places in the world that I can walk in a bar and be so "handsome" all the girls want me (haha I mean my wallet). IT's a fantasy and I swear I enjoy the shopping as much as the post shopping experience.

I hope to get back someday. Hopefully I still have the juice and the girls are still there by time I get there!

I am completely with you SamCan — the buffet experience at Manhattan is as much fun as the in room time. Each time I go I say "I am going to hold out for at least a half hour and enjoy the buffet" (of hotties) and every time within ten minutes I am smitten by some petite Viet lass and off we go. But I will keep trying! (As long as it's open).
