On a recent visit to Shanghai, a couple of weeks ago, I tried one of the Spring massage places with the 399 RMB option. Most of the Saunas are indeed closed! The agents can be contacted through WeChat and they will send you a meeting point which will be close to a hotel in which they've either set up for a short time or taken up a floor to conduct their business. There's obviously no loud music and Fish bowl. You pick them from the room in which they're waiting ( Resting and smoking. Once paid for they'll lead you to another room, hopefully one that hasn't already been used, but you can't be sure. Wandered about Putuo / Jingan area and found a number of BBS / MPs with their (glass) doors completely smashed. At least one place was definitely closed when it happened, as the door handles were still linked together with the lock and shards of glass all about the entrance.
