The best resource for these GM places is QQ chat groups. There are no KeFu or pimps that you will have to contact before they let you in, just call ahead to make appointment or walk in and ask the girl's number. There will be no fishbowl selection stage, they go by next girl up. Prices start at 220 rmb to 350+ for one hour. Here are a few of them:.

Sauna girls do NOT go for regular heath checks, nor are they required to pass one before getting hired by a sauna. There are a few reasons why a girl end up in GM, Dry Massage, rather than sauna.

1. age. Any girl older than 25 in China is called a mature lady. Chinese guys prefer younger girls so unless the girl has that baby face look, or provide "special" services, she probably won't get much business in a sauna.

2. beauty and height. The Chinese definition of beauty is very different from that of a western culture, so is the mindset of a Chinese punter. A typical Chinese punter would chose beauty and youth over service. Service is secondary, the idea is to bang a model type. 170 cm and above usually puts the girl into the model type category, under 155 cm and the girl starts at the bottom level.

3. supply and demand. A typical sauna will have more than 40 girls (bigger saunas like HaoMen on QuYang Lu will have 70+ girls) any day, while a GM place will have less than 10 girls. A punter walks into a sauna and there will be more than 20 girls on stage for selection, while a GM goes with the "next girl up" rotation policy, there's no fishbowl or selection stage.

Thanks, this is helpful. I had seen (also on Chinese forums) some saunas advertise their girls get monthly health checks. Of course, it could be BS, but from a business point of view it makes sense. Don't want them cross infecting each other.

Also, age was not a factor in the GM shops in question- all advertised girls were under 25. Sure, they may have some older ones not advertised.

So I suppose it comes down to what is considered beautiful- the GM girls do seem on the shorter end and darker skin complexion. But that happens to be my preference anyway, so win win.

My last night in the city and I want to experience a NURU. So I go to SNG, which I had read before, and settle on the idea of going to Caesars Palace. Supposed to be more expensive, but also has the style and the quality of gals to make up for the cost. Since it is my last night, I figure fuck it. I contact the manager via WeChat using the ID provided by SNG, and get a response back in a few minutes. WeChat is nice because it has a built-in translator for messaging, so I can quickly arrange that I will be there and they know and they say to message when I arrive, they will come get..

I have a question for the folks who have been in China for a while: after perusing Chinese forums (E. G. 'Love Shanghai' you'll quickly learn that FS can be had for about 390 RMB all inclusive at certain Massage Shops, particularly in the Hong Kou and Yangpu districts. Furthermore, the girls are young and can be as good looking as sauna girls (well, maybe not the top tier ones). My question is this: why wouldn't these girls instead work for saunas? The workload seems about the same, for what I imagine is more pay, and a safer working environment in the Sauna.

My thought is the saunas are selective in who they hire, and they can't get a gig there. But the massage girls are young enough and pretty enough, and they have the skills, which makes me think they are not passing health tests. Does that sound right?

After my previous post, a fellow monger PMed me and asked about the beer places I mentioned. In the interest of not having to answer the question again, and wanting to share the info (as I suspect a lot of you like good beer) here is the list of really good places I visited.

1) De Refter: This is a showcase Belgian beer bar for the company that imports that type of beer to the Chinese market. Currently located at 81 Jinxian Rd, Huangpu Qu, Shanghai, but I have been told the location is going to move in August thanks to a landlord that does not want to renew the lease. Very good English bartenders and managers. Served some incredible beers: 2 types of Chimay on tap, Trappist Rochefort 10 (2017), Gulden Draak and a Braunfelser 1868. All except the braunfelser are 10% beers, so be careful! I left this place completely knackered. The current location has a Delerium Tremors Pink Elephant sign hanging outside, and this is often what the place is called. I suspect they will take that sign to the new location. See attached photos for what it looks like.

2) World of Beer. World of Beer is right next to a place called Dr. Beer, and both places are worth visiting. World of Beer has an absolute shit ton of all kinds of beers from around the world, with an ex-pat feel inside. So good English all around. Bar menu is good but do not expect much in the way of Shanghaiese foods -- it is pretty much a western menu with some spices thrown in. Look at the photo attached, they had so many beers I couldn't get them all in one photo. World of Beer is located at 3 Fumin Rd, Jingan Qu, Shanghai.

3) Beer Lady. Located at 455 Fahuazhen Lu, near Dingxi Lu. Everything from US craft brews to hard to find belgian ales. There are a couple of Belgian ales aged for years by monks that sell for 20,000 RMB. There are also a couple of beers that sell for 10 why. Try the 10 RMB beers, you might be surprised. Good english as well and open 24/7 because it is known as a "convenience store".

4) Jackie's beer Nest. The first real craft beer place in Shanghai. Ground zero for Shanghai craft beer. Totally under-the-radar. At 76 Zhaozhou Lu, near Dongtai Lu. Quirky interior and managed by a guy who will talk about beer until he is out of breath. Great welcoming atmosphere. Closes early at 10 pm for some reason, so get there early.

5) Boxing Cat Bewery. Sinan Mansions, Unit 26 A, 519 Fuxing Zhong Lu, near Sinan Lu. Excellent craft beer on tap, maybe five or six of their own beers. They do not sell others. Recently bought by InBev, but if you can get over your snobby "I don't like to drink anything owned by those big beer dickheads" then it is worth the trip. No InBev influence is present.

6) Kerry Hotel. There is a lobby bar called THE BREW that is excellent.

7) Liquid Laundry. Shanghai Shi, Xuhui Qu, HuaiHai Lu XiDuan, 淮28023;20013;36335;1028. Affiliated with Boxing Cat, but they have a lot of other brands on sale here. One of the places besides Jackies that is a must visit.

8) The Bund Brewery. Sucked absolute balls. Shitty beer and filled with dickheads. One asshat wouldn't let me sit at his table even though he had two extra seats. Said he was waiting for a couple of people. An hour later those people were still not there. I walked up and called him a cocksucker, then left.

I just got back to the states after a quick few days in Shanghai. A quick report, nothing too exhaustive.

First, let me say that American Airlines can go fuck itself. Thanks to this douche bag airline, I had a 10 hour flight delay heading to Shanghai. That cost me an entire evening in the city- an extra evening I wish I had at the end of my four nights.

That said, Shanghai was amazing. Beautiful city, great food, nice stuff to see. Sweltering hot in July. It was 100-106 F every day I was there, in evenings it never dropped below 80 F.
