I support SamCan's advice 100 %, in particular the point to carry only 1, 000 RMB cash and no credit cards. Better yet, split your cash and keep it partially in your wallet and partially elsewhere (pocket? Sock? Money belt?) , in the unlikely event that it is a scam (although I doubt if it is a scam).

Another idea is to keep your passport at your hotel and bring only a photocopy of the face page. The less you have on you, the less there is that can be stolen / lost.

When reading the comments about expensive freebies, I'm reminded of the famous story back in the 1990s when it was revealed that the younger, handsome movie star Charlie Sheen was paying hookers $1, 000 or more to have sex with him. So I went to the Nanjing Xi Lu Fake Market Spa a couple weeks ago, really had a good time with one of the girls there. Got her info. Sent her a message asking if she was working tomorrow, and she said she was taking some time off, but that I could come over to her apartment. Seems cool, though I'm not sure if she means she's "working from home" or if we will just be hanging out. Either way, my question is. Do you guys think this is safe? Or is this a common scam and will there be thugs waiting for me in her apartment asking me to give them all my money? If you get a fapio at a sauna you will notice that almost all of them (especially the ones discussed in this forum) will list the charge as a restaurant charge. This is for expensing reasons. So if your credit card calls, it is very unlikely that it will say something like "sauna sex services".

At 6:00am the next morning his bank rang him and asked him if the transaction was fraudulent. He had the phone on speakerphone and his wife heard the conversation!

The ANZ bank (Australia) looks for dubious credit card transactions, and checks suspicious ones by phone with the cardholder! This transaction was flagged as suspicious because the guy had never had any China transactions before. A good service, but embarrassing in this case!

It's possible they took just enough to force you to use your credit card, wanting to get your card details and PIN during the transaction. I've never lost anything from the locker room in a sauna, but there was one place where I gave the cashier the right number of 100 bills and she counted them out as one short. I was prepared to accept I'd made a mistake, but the next time at the same place it happened again, so now I always count them out myself in front of the staff.

At the locker room I started to put on my clothes. First thing I noticed was that my wallet was in a different pocket. When I got to the counter to pay I noticed I was missing six hundred RMB from my wallet. When I go to any massage place I only take the massage fee plus 400 RMB. I told the manager that her staff had gone through my locker and stole some money. The only thing she kept saying was, did I have a credit card to pay their fee. She was not a bit concerned that someone had gone through my locker, she obviously knew about this happening. Only later did I think about what happened did I get very worried. You probably don't know the answer to this question, but I'm curious. For your visit to Ba Di Ya (above) , why was the second (prettier) girl not in the line-up but was easily available as part of a twosome? My guesses include that she had been almost finished eating dinner when your line-up was called, or was in the toilet, or had just finished up with a customer, or that she'd already had a few customers that day and the line-up consisted of girls who hadn't had any customers that day (which would explain why your line-up consisted mostly of 5's and 6's). Unfortunately we'll probably never know for sure.

You will never see all the girls in a lineup. Some are busy with customers, some on the toilet, have a rest or take some food. On a busy day, there will be around 40 to 50 girls in a average sauna, but a lineup will never have more than 20 to 30 girls. So if I am there with customers and we don`t like the lineup, we just ask for another one. Than most time need 10 to 30 minutes and you will have a totally different selection.
