Makes sense that international invite trade fair would lead to windy weather, just like our political conventions lead to homeless roundups, etc. In host cities. However, Beijing has mandated a shift toward less overt indulgence of wealth (golf, designer shopping, fancy cars, etc.) and decadence (you define), so the weather is windy all over China. Look at reports from other cities, all seem to be windier than usual.

I hope this wind is not the "new normal", but it may be.

BTW, I do fully realize I'm a newbie in here and I haven't yet built up any credit. I am however not new to the hobby (been active since taking a girl home from Harmony Theater in NYC back in the mid 90's). But I absolutely promise to post reviews / info after my Shanghai trip in a couple of weeks. I have a couple more questions I'the really appreciate some inputs on.

1) Currently I am booked into the Paramount Gallery Hotel. Apparently it is a 10-15 minute walk from J and M. Is this hotel considered WG friendly? Will I have to walk past reception to get to the elevators / room?

2) If I am returning with a WG, is it best to walk in separately, or together (I'm 44, and yeah, although I'm in decent shape, I think most people would not look at me and a J or M girl and think we were just a regular couple).

I have never had an issue with hotels in China giving me a hard time about bringing girls back. Make sure you book your room with 2 guests not just 1. The Radisson properties (Xing Guo and New World), Hilton and Portman ritz are all girl friendly. Will also state that it has been 2 years since I have been in Shanghai, things may have changed. Will be there in a few days, will let you know if I have issues.

Most hotel bars are extremely hit or miss, found one good massage girl in Shanghai, but the rest were pretty rough.

I have a friend that stays at the Shangri-La and has brought back girls with no problems.

Ok, I'm going to chance my arm and ask one more question.

3) Given the choice of going to J or M and scoring a hot 8 or 9, or just venturing down to the hotel bar and finding a 7 for a similar price, I'the probably opt for the 7 in the hotel bar (just less hassle). Is the hotel bar (at a place like Paramount Gallery) an option?

BTW, if Paramount Gallery is not WG friendly, is there another option (other than Portman Ritz) close to J and M?

Did you happen to try Manhattan or Judy's? It seems like they are possibly the best option right now. I'm just wondering if taking Judy's or Manhattan girls back to the hotel is still reasonably safe. It feels like a while since someone reported back on Judy's and Manhattans. I'll be there in a couple of weeks and will also report back.

Yes J and M are still options and just about the only reliable ones, IMO. Not aware of any new hotel girl issues (assume hotel is historically girl friendly, still is). Seems the biggest issue in that scenario is higher prices because of fewer options. Bottom line is that SH is not as much fun, not as safe from LE, and certainly not as affordable as it once was. Frankly, it was so hot, humid and smoggy that I couldn't wait to leave, contrary to my pleasant trips in the past and great hospitality from my Chin biz partners, as usual. I believe things will eventually improve, but the crackdown may represent a shift in long term policy that some call the "fun police state". Many things viewed by Beijing as corrupt indulgences. Golf, nice cars, designer clothes, fancy biz meals, KTV and saunas for both locals and foreigners as now seriously frowned upon. Given the mandatory fingerprinting at the airport for foreigners the intimidation factor is substantial. My advice save the activities for somewhere less expensive and "safer" in all respects.

It's really hit and miss these days with all the internet marketing. But the trends seem to have sauna coming back with addition of many serve out of the apartments. I haven't tried too many of them. It may be good to start a Shanghai wechat group so we can share the info? I got a few good contacts we can share.

It has been a while. I visited one in the apartment and the services were pretty good. The girl is a solid 8 in look but the service is so so.

Kind bring me back to the memory of apartment girls a decade back. Those were the good time and a lot more fun.

Just returned to Miami from a week long biz trip to Shanghai. Despite best efforts no good quality, affordable, safe fun to be found. Amazing change in atmosphere in a few months time. I guess only an authoritarian government can effectively enforce not only a crackdown, but instill a sense of fear into normally adventurous mongers and providers. GFE saunas gone underground, massage seems mostly legit, bar girls drink rip offs only, etc. Finding good fun is hit and miss at best. Prices rival USA. Maybe the intense summer heat and humidity even at night has everyone in a funk and we can hope for better things in the Fall, but for now, the playground is closed unless you want to overpay and under enjoy.
