Truth be told, Formerlybnc was the gracious host to whom I referred in my post. We have been mongering together for over a decade. He took me to the original BJ factory in Shanghai and we roamed "The Village" BBS area together in days gone by.

I was there 2 weeks ago, and have stayed there a few times in the past couple years. Definitely a girl friendly hotel since the registration is on 12th floor, and you can go straight to your floor from ground without stopping on 12th. The night security guy at the entrance always felt asleep and barely opens his eyes when you pass by with your honey. A bit over priced now ($150 incl. Fee and tax). It was a good deal when they charged less than $100 2 years ago. But so is everything else in Shanghai. Rooms are generally clean, but some are a bit worn. Breakfast is great, and very close to Manhattan if that is your playground. It is a good 4 star hotel with limited amenity, but not 5 as most reservation website puts it.
