To answer your last question, yes you will need a passport to get a sim card. Every phone number needs to be linked to an ID or passport starting maybe a year ago. Just keep your wechat account linked to your home number. Honestly the government is not really concerned with what you are doing if you are not a rabblerouser or a journalist.

Also Peoples Square is in the city center, you won't have a problem getting around from there.

3. No, but I have trouble logging in without a VPN, not sure if that is common. I advise you get a VPN for a variety of reasons. Astrill is my go to, but it isn't free. They might have a free trial.

4. If it is a quadband phone, yes. Most mid-range and higher US phones work on the network here. But you can google yours before you leave. If not and you will visit often, buy a cheap xiaomi for 900 rmb.

5. Not much obvious stuff on the street level anymore. But you can find it by using a translator to search naughty words on baidu then translating Chinese sites with chrome.

6. Could be koubao = CIM.

7. Not really in SH that I know of anymore. I don't know about Shenzhen.

8. Doesn't hurt to try.

At Chinese hotels, you can almost always order room service from the hotel spa, and FS is almost always available, but you will overpay for it. Like 500 RMB for the non-existent massage and another 2,000 tip for FS. And there's obviously no lineup, so you kinda have to take what you get. The only benefit IMO is that the girl is at your room within minutes of ordering, so it's convenient.

Wow, China's gotten insane. If my math is right, that's about $357 USD. Ouch!

First time posting and new to the hobby and forum. Messed around a bit in Sydney and New York. Found the Pullman skyway has a spa in the hotel. Place is open past midnight and offers a "body member massage". Great massage and spa. During the massage, the girl was very flirty and even playing with the balls which was exceptional. Offered everything including bare and CIM. Girl was a solid be and lacked choice due to the New Years holiday. Unfortunately my negotiation was poor and got taken for a decent amount of change. 2 years ago, got a massage and the Shanghai hotel on wulumuxi Road. Got a pretty good HJ but no FS. Hope this was helpful.

- No idea what you mean by "probably around 268 with he included".
- I am experienced so won't be following any touts, but thanks for the reminder!
- 1200 or less!? Seriously?? That is like $180 USD!! I am going to the wrong country. Darn.

- "268 with he" means 268 RMB for a massage with a happy ending. But most places cost more, and if you are a foreigner with little Mandarin skills, then expect to be asked for a pretty hefty tip.

- And Shanghai is no longer a cheap place for mongering, especially if you have no Mandarin skills.

I don't know of much in Jiading, but my limited experience there is that there is not much on the surface. There are probably a handful of seedy looking MPs in the area, probably around 268 with he included, but YMMV. Shanghai has been cleaned up so you won't find much by wandering around compared to what you are used to in Philippines. Also don't be following touts around and stay away from Nanjing East, you will likely get scammed. Unless you can speak basic Chinese your best bet is Judys or Manhatten. If you can get a decent looking Viet to go home with you for the evening for 1200 or less, you have done quite well. Otherwise troll the forum for recent reports.

Yeah. Need to have a copy of passport to get a local SIM card. Easy to get at a ChinaMobile or Unicom shop in any mall or area with some expats as someone in the shop should speak English.

I do not know Shanghai well at all but some answers for you:

From wiki: "Changshou Road is an interchange station on Line 7 and Line 13 of the Shanghai Metro, located in Putuo District. ".

Your LG phone should work in China, I usually get a local SIM card, try at the airport but you may pay a premium compared to ordinary shops, you will need your passport and hotel address.

There have been huge changes in China since you were last there, even more changes in the "hobby" scene. As for street walkers, reports are few and far between but, as you say, going for a walk may be fruitful. In Beijing, after dark, some SW may be around some of the international hotels.

And HEED the WARNINGS about TOUTS and other scams.

Hey fellas, plan on being in Shanghai in April for a couple weeks to meet a conservative Chinese lady I met on DIA, but in case it doesn't work out, I'm looking for a viable backup plan. I've read the forum for about 15 pages and gleaned some info, but would like some of you seasoned mongers to fill in the gaps, mostly technical help as I'm not familiar with the city layout. She's planning on getting us a hotel in the "People's Square" district, wherever that is. If you doubt my posting history or credibility, I have an extensive history on the Atlanta, Georgia forum under the same handle.

Background: I was in Shanghai in 2007, so here is what I know / remember:

Stayed in a small hotel near the Hilton. The Hilton had a special elevator to go to a floor not open to the general public where they had a sauna and you could choose a girl to fuck. Anyone know if it's still there? Also, I remember a strip of about 5 clubs filled with Filipinas for takeout. It may have been near an area with embassy homes and such but don't recall exactly. I did as shitload of walking but had no clue where I was at any given time. Anyone know if that strip of clubs still exists? I've read the reports here about Judy's / Manhattan but I asked my lady friend if she'd want to go and got a solid NO as she's probably afraid of me staring at the Viet eye candy.

Some silly questions based on the posts I read:

1. Is FR 76 Changshou a road / street? How would a noob find it?

2. What's the significance of the Qibao district?

3. Is ISG blocked in China? If so, how do you access it?

4. Will my American LG phone work in China? Will I need a different SIM card to make it work or?

5. Saw someone mention a "KB routine. " What's that?

6. Are BBFS places hard to find since the crackdown? I can get a HJ anywhere so prefer BBBJ or BBFS.

7. I also visited Shenzhen in 2007 and found a couple of good RLDs. Anyone know if they exist?

8. Also found a RLD in Shanghai by giving a taxi driver the international symbol for suckie fuckie (index finger extended thru thumb and forefinger on opposite hand). Does it still exist?

Any other mongering info that would help for a relative noob to Shanghai would be greatly appreciated.
