Do the more established operations like the more reputable saunas require regular health checks on their girls? I know this may be a stupid and unfair question: the johns do not get tested and a girl is only as clean as the last guy. Is the risk of catching a STD high with BBBJ?

The most upscaled saunas care a lot about that. They will send the girls to a monthly health check, and if there will be any indication like scratching or itching, she will be suspended immediately and only allow back to work, if she got a health check certificate from the hospital. So from all choices in Shanghai, the sauna clubs should be the most secure ones from that point of view.

Many of us caught something from a BBBJ already, so there is a risk, but the sauna girls have a good solution for that. I think the cautions raised by Shanghai Guide are very valid. I had run into enough scams when I arrived and tried to find a decent apartment to rent. I tried using a very well known Chinese Apartment Rental web site and had local Chinese friends making the calls. And those scammers were licensed real estate agents. The chance of being scammed and ended up paying more, not getting what you expected is much higher in this more "shady" realm, compared to other available alternatives. I had set up a QQ account, but did not use it for mongering.

And I appreciate Shanghai Guide for his many useful posts.

But you should know, that QQ girls will expect you to speak Chinese, can you? The normal way is, they will just tell you the "street crossing", where they are located, not their detailed "room number", just to avoid getting caught by police. So when you arrive at the corner, you will have to call them, they will check you up from "somewhere around" and tell you where to go. This step is pretty hard, if you don't speak Chinese. And by the way, most of this "QQ-Accounts" will be handled by pimps, not by the girls directly, so it doesn't matter what your QQ contact will promise you about service or rate, later the girl can change everything.

And many QQ girls don't like to "serve" foreigners (big dick rumor and if they do, they often overcharge. And with your "foreigner punishment fee" you often will be in the range of a sauna or escort girl, but unfortunately combined with a much more "lousy" service. Also this girls often work with faked pictures or they are so strongly "photoshopped", that the 40 years old fat lady will be a 20 years young and slim baby finally, so even they use real pictures, that is not a guarantee to get what you are looking for.

All that "QQ-Stuff" is a kind of "gambling", so you can win, but often you will loose, especially if you are a foreigner How lucky you will be, will also depend on how good is your Chinese and how many time you are willing to spend for find the right girl for the "entertainment" you are looking for. As more time you spend, as more chance to find one of the very less "reliable" girls in that business.

But you should also know, that the risk to get involved in a police raid in that private "QQ-Apartments" is much higher than in any sauna or massage place (they "hide" their business, so also no "tip" for the police guys around). And the police really don't like this kind of business (different to the sauna and massage places, which are known, but mostly tolerated), and the girls work from private apartments, so often the neighbors will realize what is going on there and call the police, just to keep their "environment" clean. So I would not risk to stay overnight in one of this apartments. Caught there will cost you 10 days prison and you will be banned from enter China for the next 4 years, as far as I know.

Definitely not all of them will be available for western guys. I had it two times already, that some girls "sneaked away" from the selection stage, when I came around the corner with a western customer. I agree with Shanghai Guide, while I found Kang Ding totally over priced, they do have some very hot women on their Wechat account and their location is very accessible. I went to Shanghai Hotel Sauna, and the door was padlocked. I saw the post on the place on Kang Ding Lu, and I spent this evening wandering the length of that road without locating the place. I would very much appreciate getting a little more information on locating places that are still operating.

Kang Ding Sauna is still in operation, but like most sauna places in Shanghai now, you need to know exactly how to find them. Most of them will not have any advertisement or a "open door" to invite you (together with the police) for a casual visit. Often, you just need to ask the guards around for a specific name of a sauna manager (which you need to know in advance), than they will bring you around, if you only ask for the sauna, often they will act like they have no idea what you are looking for. But each place is different. Check the net, and you will find ways how to solve that problem, I am sure.

It's not luck, that's the way they intend it to be. I posted a report a couple of years ago describing the amount of time and money I spent through a summer trying to find a reasonable experience with a QQ girl. The success rate was dismal, however you define success. I never found one worth a second visit. The details are in the report if you search back a year or so.

She did have a real nice body at least.
