I encountered this too from a Tantan gal on a 2016 SH trip. I went to the station she mentioned and she asked if we could get a drink. I said I could buy some drinks from a local store but she suggested a bar. I said okay but just one drink. We get to the bar and she orders a 80-90 rmb glass of wine while I got a 50-60 rmb beer. Then she says she's hungry so she orders a pizza. Then she ordered another glass of wine and after she finished that, she was about to order a third glass but I stopped her. I told her that was it, no more orders as it was time to leave. So the bill comes and it's about 400-450 rmb. I didn't argue, just paid and left. Needless to say, I didn't score that night! Hahaha! But lesson learned and haven't been scammed since!

If she ate and drank everything that she ordered, then this was not a shakedown for money, and not the typical scam that we are talking about. The bar scams, tearoom scams, practice english scams, etc that we are talking about goes something like this: she takes you somewhere, she orders, and then she goes to the bathroom and never comes back, and the bill arrives and it is thousands of RMB. All you did was buy someone who was very hungry some food.

Long story short, if you encounter a girl who is pushy and adamant in similar circumstances, you should probably be wary. Stick by your guns and don't get ripped off! I've had some good experiences using dating apps here but still need to be wary as scammers are everywhere.

This has been going on for decades. I first encountered it around 2004/2005 even before dating apps etc. Just walking on the Bund attractive girls would come talk to you and ask to go for coffee. My friend fell for it and I followed him. Same story like yours. Lost a couple hundred dollars and learned a lesson.

Same in Beijing the tea room scam, the art student scam, the practice english scam, the pretty girls for sex scam, there was even one woman who had a child grab foreigner's legs and demand money to set one free.

And, do not forget the fake pedestrian hit by car scam wherein someone runs and jumps on a car, lays on the road prostrate and then demands compensation.

A lot of this is going on in many countries in one form or another.

They seem to target foreigners and have no issue using English to communicate (but I used mandarin).

After meeting with the girl she will walk with you and then ask if you want a drink.

With the first girl I was brought to a bar. The menu had incredibly inflated drink and food prices. And she proceeded to order a large amount of food and drinks. For two people we had 32 shots of tequila, a large plate of desserts, and two or three cocktails with the total coming to 2800 rmb.

I had been drinking earlier that night with some friends so didn't think much of it until after the bill came and I realized this was likely a scam. And as soon as the bill was piad the girl was in a hurry to get me in a taxi to leave.

The day after I met up with another tinder date who asked me or meet in the same area. The first red flag was she didn't look like her photos, but I decided to run with it to see how this would unfold, with the full intention of only paying for any drinks I purchased for myself and nothing for the girl. We then proceeded to walk and talk with her bringing up the idea of stopping again to have a drink. I told her I was very full from lunch and that I didn't drink alcohol, but she proceeded to pick a bar. After sitting in the bar I decided to change the venue to see how she would react. I had a snarling suspicion that the bar (and the one form the previous night) were all set up together as their menus were almost identical (items, layout, price). To give some perspective, a glass of sprite was 75 rmb. I asked to leave and told her I would prefer a coffee shop. We then walked for a bit longer before she chose another shop in the alley. This coffee shop was small and only had two small rooms that closed off. The server brought me a menus that was IDENTICAL to the ones from the previous two stores. I ordered only a single lemon water (20 rmb) and once again, the girl proceeded to begin ordering alcohol, and a large plate of desserts and fruit that made no sense for two people. After about 10 minutes I told her I needed to leave to meet some friends and she then said that was no problem I just needed to pay for the bill first. I then told her, the north American was that we each paid for what we ordered. She then begin flustered and said that in China the custom is for guys to pay on the first meeting.

I told her because it was the first meeting I wasn't going to lay for a bunch of food that I didn't order for someone I just met. She then tried to get me to at least pay for the drinks saying she would pay for all the desserts by herself.

In the end, I only paid my 20 rmb for my lemon water and then she asked me to leave. It was quite satisfying leaving and watching her pouting over having all the food and drinks left on the table unpaid for.

Pretty sure I mentioned La Suite as one of the first in this topic in my report below on all of Shanghai. La Suite is not a hooker bar like Judy and Manhattan at all. Your going to get slapped and maybe even kicked out if you approach people with the mind of 'how much for ST and LT' most of time.

La Suite is a club, with I would say 50% 'models' therefore alot of russians uzbek brazilians, and whilst some of them may be doing some sex work on the side, they rarely display it in the clubs like you might be used to in UAE / Dubai etc. 50% rest are normal party goers students, locals etc.

Your not going to find something like Red Square, Czar, Premier with Russians, uzbeks in Dubai or what used to be Mango, Maggies in Beijing (now closed also) etc. The closest to that in Shanghai is Judy and Manhattans but its filled with Viets 890% and maybe 20% local / thai / africans.

But if after all that you still want to go to La Suite and try your luck or more or less try your game, because again, don't try the pay for play approach, you need to flirt, buy drinks approach here is the link with address and description.

Just a quick update on Shanghai. I was there 3 nights Jul 23 to 26 - I did have a couple of contacts from previous visits so daytime action was taken care of. I did not visit Manhattan as girls were telling me a lot girls had shifted from MH to Judys as better business there. Judys did have a few absolutely stunning Viets. I took 3 diff Viets over the 3 nts at 2 K ea. Just perfect bodies and perfect experienced performers. Ther girl on 3rd nt usually sits and talks tio Chinese guys at RMB800 for 2-3 hrs. I did grab her just as she left 1 guy. I was staying 500 mtrs away in Shangri-La so walked there each nt and RMB20 scooter ride back to hotel with conquest each night just a perfect set up.

One of my daytime girls suggested I should go to La Suite where plenty Africans, Russians, Ukrainians etc are working. I did visit but it was closed on Monday nt so check opoening before you head there.

Judys is still clearly best bet in town. Have fun.

YES same spot. Blind Pig way gone but Pistolera which was above Blind Pig has a big new outlet in Portman Ritz complex. Great tex mex and still walking distance Judys. Chilli's is over the road but is crap compared to Pistolera.

YERS Xin Tian Di still there but with so few foreigners in town now the numbers of working girls also way down. Found 158 is worth a look later in week / weekend but depends how much time you have to waste. Judys is a monty so is def best bet in town.
