Before I start the review I do want to add that all the conversation wete in chinese. I did run into a massage place that offered HJ and BJ. It was in that plaza by the intersection of hongquan Road and hongxin Road. There is actually 3 there. Two actually had the neon lights LOL. The three makes a triangle and I think all three are on the second floor. If your facing hongquan Road the one I went to is the middle one. There is another was to left that had only white lights. Saunas disappeared a long time ago. I think there's still a small number of HJ massage shops in the longming Road / Caobao Road area, not far from where you are. The shops down there were closed for a while but I think there are a few places open again. Can't guarantee you'll find anything as I've not tried down there for a while, but maybe head for low-key shops with small, basic storefronts, marked simply 'Spa' with a couple of Chinese characters. Shanghai these days reminds me of Seoul in the 2010's, it's fast cleaning up. Good MPs closed for weeks and those that are open are risky and down market. Seems a lot have moved out to Minhang and further. Westerners are not as interesting, attractive or appealing as a source of income any more. I'd recommend taking up coffee tasting if you want a hobby that will get you out and about around Shanghai these days, it's a lot safer and more rewarding.

Ofc all what you said still holds true, it's just that if you are able and can identify good addresses the scene is ok.
