In regards to Manhattan, the intimidation factor is definitely a thing, but I think having a wingman puts a perspective in things. Namely, being with other like minded people may prevent an otherwise lone person from doing something stupid. I would definitely check it out solo, but would prefer to go with someone. Also, it's nice that they blocked my home VPN already (signed up for another service encrypts the handshake). Ironically, my work VPN is also blocked (which has never happened before). I may switch hotels if that's the case.

A friendly suggestion to my friends who cannot do outcall or takeout (because (1) wife is at home or (2) hotel is not girl friendly or (3) you're afraid of being seen), try asking the girl to book a short time hotel for you. I got the idea from the infamous Beverly Jones. She suggested it and that's how we always met. Chinese people can book a hotel for 4 hours for 100 RMB. (FYI, I tried to book them myself, but have been denied because I'm a foreigner). I have to admit, you may need to establish trust with a girl first. For example, I had to book a Hotel 168 a few times for the initial rendezvous, which set me back at least 250 RMB (and it's a hassle anyway). But once the girl knows you, you tell her you can only see her if she books the hotel that you'll reimburse. They often will oblige. And girls like Wenli (on classifieds) and the well known Hujing and Maria, and others, all booked the short time hotels for me from the very first encounter. For them, cancellation is fully refundable so they don't care if you flake on the date. Just a suggestion. Probably many of you are already doing this.

I understand Der Xie. I used to love going to these takeout places when I didn't mind staying out late, but it's still better to go with a friend so you can drink with your buddy while eyeing the talent and pondering who to take home. If you go alone, you get hounded by one after another for a fast deal. For me, Ipanema in SG was an exception, since it had that Galaga video arcade game, so I had something to do while scouting the talent. I played that game for so many hours over so many years, LOL.

I have not done Manilla so I can't compare, but Manhattan is unlike anywhere else I've been in a bar. You will not be bored. If anything you might feel a little intimidated. The girls are all interested in you and some can be pretty aggressive. I personally find it great fun. You just have to be firm if an aggressive girl is not your type and that can be hard with her grinding against you. It is a once in a lifetime experience IMO. I would not miss it if in Shanghai.

Stopped in at a Spring Massage today. Followed advice of many on this forum visiting a Spring outside the city center. This one on the no. 2 metro line prior to Hongqiao airport. Then walked for a while.

Probably true you get more for your $ outside the center. Did 398 all included and was not pestered for tip. I like it that way. Regular massage (no horseplay), then she completely stripped, showered (in room) and seemed happy to do anything I wanted with her. Might have even been upset I didn't feel like screwing her.

I have been going to Spring massage for about 4 years now.

YMMV in each place. But I would say the Meridian massage (or oil massage for foreigners) includes he. No tip needed. But if you want them to touch them or do anything extra, then tips required.

My best experience was at the one on maoming lu. When I was on my stomach and she was standing near the top of the table by my head. She slips of her shoes and climbs onto the table. That's what I would have written two months ago after a previous visit. However I went last week and everything is different. The front desk staff were new and didn't really know the drill. The massage lady (more mature than the usual) turned up in the more traditional tunic found in veggie shops. The shower was still in the room, but I had to walk down the corridor to another room where all the furniture had been removed and use the shower there.

The massage, was excellent so I was beginning to think they had gone legit and, TBH, it was so good, I wouldn't have been that worried. However, after the flip, she started 'testing the waters' to see if I was interested in more. Then asked for a 400 tip. I managed to get that down to 200 and she gave me one of the best HEs that I've experienced at Spring.

So, physically a win-win but financially a bit of a fail. There's another place, not to far away that's more expensive than Spring where the service has been improving after the storms and where I have yet to be asked for tips. I'll go there for now. PM for details if you're interested.

Reading about Spring spa, I decided to go to the closest one, in Pudong Street.

I paid the 338 rmb massage version.

Very nice place, beautiful girl. But.

The girl asked for more other 500 rmb of tip for HJ, without any possibility to reduce the amount.

So I gave up.

According to that I presume that there are different "categories" of Spring massage.

I have been to several Spring locations, and I always got the most expensive massage, around 336 rmb, and I always got asked for a large tip for HJ. I am pretty sure it is because I speak almost no Chinese and so the girl thinks I am a one-time client so she's got very little to lose by asking for a huge tip, like 300-500. At one place, the girl insisted on 500 tip and I said no and she strongly indicated it would be worth it, so I stupidly said okay because I was curious. I have to admit it was a good HJ and she did get almost entirely naked, but not worth 500 obviously. Afterwards, I asked for her wechat and she was surprised and gave it to me. The following week she sent me a message and asked me if I was still in Shanghai and I told her yes and she asked me to come see her. I told her she ripped me off. She apologized and told me to return. So I did. This time the HJ was longer and even better. I then offered her 200 and she was thrilled. And now she sends me a message every few days. She even came to work early one time to accomodate my schedule. So if you can pass as a potential regular customer then you can probably tip 100-200 or nothing at all. The main downside to collecting any girl's wechat is they then think you are their regular client and may be hurt or angry if you see another girl at their location, LOL.
