All of Shanghai is currently under potential raids due to the Silk Road initiative forum (in Beijing but with side meetings in Shanghai too).

From the feedback I got, Hongkou is exposed to high winds too. There have been under cover raids and the usual red envelope to local police won't help much as these raids come from other districts and sometimes other province.

As a result lots of MPs have been told to close in the mean time in changning district. Some open with low profile / lights off at special times or are old customers only to stay away from unwanted guests. Some of the official guests stay in the hongqiao area which is why this area is even more exposed right now.

Back in the city after being away a long time. So, my usual sources of information seem out of date (Shanghai Nightlife Guide). Also seems like many of the great saunas are now closed. Can anyone please help with the following questions:

(1) what saunas do you recommend nowadays?

(2) are there any other websites or any other sources of info that are useful now that SNG is not updated?

The tobacco business is a state monolopy earning 15% of GDP. The lobby of my hotel on Jiaozhou road is still not entirely smoke free yet. The Hongqiao Train station seems ok, but the on the train platforms its condoned. China is being dragged kicking and screaming into the civilized world. Americans love the protected status of their weapons. Texans take them into the voting booths and church, and schools. Unfortunately smokers everywhere congregate near an open door. In Japan the problem has been solved buy creating glass ghettos and prohibiting smoking on most streets. The doorway in restaurants is open, but a good ventilation system renders the non smoking areas clean. The airport at Pudong closed the smoking areas, where smokers used to wander around outside their cubicle. Dali airport has a smoke and cigarette sales room next to the restaurant and departure gate. The odor travels up into the second floor departure gates.

OK, as an inexperienced punter went to Shanghai. First I would like to thank all the posters and SNG. Both proved to be very useful. In short Shanghai seems quite good.

First went with Cathy Shanghai. She is very easy to arrange over email, very professional. We exchanged a few emails in advanced, confirmed everything a little bit before. She arrives on time. Newbie here and need your help please! I'm in changzhou from the 17th-19 May and normally I'd be staying in shanghai at a business type hotel. This time I'm staying at the aptly named Happiness hotel and wish to book the services of a non agency lady!
