The whole city was preping for a visit from the big guy but he ended up staying in Beijing. So unless he postponed his trip to come for the 23rd of July things should go back to normal state.

As a matter of fact a couple shops which were meant to be closed 2 weeks until the 6th reopened earlier.

That being said, this hobby is still illegal and the ongoing fight against pornography and so on is still live all around the country. Just no more special treatment for shanghai because of CCPC 100th.

This visit goes back to May, but a friend and I visited 3 locations and I'm quite curious about what happened.

First location was a place called "Judy's" opposite the Kerry Center. This isn't the location I expected as everything I saw on the Internet said that Judy's and Manhattan are on the same road, but this place bills itself as Judy's.

Friend and I went in around 8:30 pm on a Tuesday. It was quiet, but with several girls in attendance. There was a table of foreign guys with about three very cute girls hanging around. Eventually that group left. There were also other attractive girls. Clearly Chinese. With a table of Chinese guys. My friend and I were approached by two Viet girls who were not my cup of tea. Offering short time for 1500. Other than them we didn't get approached by other girls. There were two women alone. Both very made-up who seemed totally preoccupied with phones. Wouldn't make eye contact.

We next went to Manhattan. Got in around 10:00 pm. Packed with Chinese guys and dozens of very attractive Chinese women all clearly working. Place was very dead with girls walking around. After trying to get a cute Chinese girl's attention, I finally asked her in Chinese, "you don't like foreign guys?" She apologized and said she assumed we couldn't speak Chinese and she'd be happy to come over if we bought a bottle.

So this joint, the girls seemed to be working for the bar.

I only come to Shanghai once and awhile on business and was finally curious enough to check these spots out, but they were far from what's been described here even recently. What gives?
