However, as a infrequent visitor to Shanghai, I was walking around the Bund area and got offered 100rmb for 1-hour massage (including all services, including sex as well. Which I clarified couple of times directly). Anyways, I had a little time and frankly was curious, this guy had been nagging me for 10-mins, just randomly following me on the street showing me pics of girls on his phone. So decided to check out his place.

Small joint with "Tea / Coffee" wording splashed on the entrance door, just 1 room plus couple of rooms on 1st floor, on a busy road, near the Bund. Walked in. 3-4 girls, taken up to a room with seemingly namesake karaoke machine, asked to pick from 3 girls, frankly girls were nice looking. I confirmed with the girl-in-charge 100rmb for all service. I was anyways not looking to partake, just inquiring, so declined and decided to leave. Some pressure to not leave, including hand holding, and laughable slashing of price to 50rmb and then 20rmb to just sit with the girl for 5-10 mins, offer to give me water / soda to just chat. Followed me out of joint asking why I didn't like her girls, said the reason price was so low because it is dinner time and no customers usually during dinner-time (was around 7pm). I bid adieu.

So am curious. And will probably help the next person as well. What is this scam? Anyone know? Do they just pretend 100rmb to 1000rmb? Possibly I am a tourist with only 200rmb in my pocket with no ATM / credit card?

I was in Shanghai in March 2012 and wrote a couple of posts on this topic that prompted a long series of comments and horror stories from other posters. Since 15 months back is a lot of RTFF to do, maybe someone should create a "Report of Distinction" link on this important topic.

This looks to be a variation of the tea room trick. In my first visit to SH many years ago two young man and three young women chatted me up and invited me to tea. To cut a long story short in the tea room I quickly realized it was a scam and asked for the bill which they tried to delay; anyway I paid a fraction of the exorbitant amount they asked for after a lengthy negotiation. I can't recall the amount. They never threatened violence. If the guy he went with were the usual thugs who try to lure unsuspecting gents into establishments, he would not have got off so easily, they would have tried their damnest including beatings and extortion to get money from him.

Last month I went there after 12.30 midnight and the guy at the reception wanted 880 upfront! Even before entering, forget seeing the girls or taking shower! He said as it is after 12.30am so pay in advance. Is this routine or another bullshit from this fuck all place?

Yes, this is the normal practice since the reception staff will be off duty when you finish your session with the girl. So they ask you to pay in advance. It is the same also at Bodi and Hailang.

I'll be in Shanghai and would be interested in joining the KTV trip. I arrive on the evening of the 15th. I've been to sauna's and BBS previously, but haven't had the opportunity to visit a KTV yet. I speak some Chinese (18 months of lessons while living in China from 2005 to 2008) , but not fluent. I don't think you can count on them waiting in the lobby. Massage girls have no trouble getting to my room.

Depends on the hotel, of course, but something is a massage girl making her way alone. Something is if she one is with you. Either they wait or if they show the intention to follow you, go to reception and ask them to have your "friend" waiting for you there. Maybe reception might gets the hint.

Your rule #1 is of course the best.

Step 1, tell them a fake room number and go in your real room (they have to wait in the lobby anyhow).

I don't think you can count on them waiting in the lobby. Massage girls have no trouble getting to my room.

I have read reports here on ISG of these thugs taking a credit card and actually imprisoning a victim until they max out the card. These scams can be very dangerous. The only way to handle them is to not walk into them. Do not go anywhere with a tout on the street, male or female. If you want to have a little fun instead of getting robbed then read the forum to find out where and how.

The scam could be the girl will get on you, probably a HJ or a BJ, whatever needed to take your dick out, fill a condom with your fluids and then ask a few thousand RMB. No cash, no ATM card? They will follow you to hotel with your room number known to them. Up to you then on how to handle this. Want to go to police? You can, but magically a video with your dick, condom filled, will come to surface. Having sex with a prostitute is illegal. So your word of being scammed vs. The video evidence, go imagine which prevails. How to escape this if trapped?

Step 1, tell them a fake room number and go in your real room (they have to wait in the lobby anyhow).

Step 2, ask hotel to change room number anyhow.

Step 3, change hotel.

If police is involved, book the first flight out of the country, and plan not to be able to go ack to PRC.

FS in saunas are around 800 or more, so nobody will give you FJ or entertain you for 200, even if only for a cup of tea, when at least 2-3 or more people have been involved and they got to have their earning or their working time.

Been lurking for a few months, mostly because there wasn't much I could contribute given the amount of reports out here, but I have a bit more experience now. I mostly go to Hong Song, and for the guys who go there, it's interesting to note that the girls have a quota of how many repeat customers they need every 2 weeks. If they don't hit their quota they will be fined; if they do it's a reward of about 10 customers worth. If the girl senses that you could be a repeat, her attitude will improve drastically. Obviously this works with any venue but it goes double for Hong Song. Turnover at HS is fairly high, since its the newest of a chain of venues, which explains why HS prices are a third higher than others like Merrylin. New girls at HS are brought in after 3, and put into the right corner in the last row.

Also HS is one of the few places where if you choose a double you can actually get girl on girl action. However this will only be done by specific couples, and you can't pick them yourself, its the friend of the one that you chose when she tries to get you to buy another. I will be heading back there this weekend, will report my findings.
