Need some help! Not sure whether this is the best place to post or not, but here goes.

I intend to visit Huizhou for a couple of days (midweek) and hope to try some saunas there, as Huizhou is supposed to the place to be! But there is precious little information on ISG.

To say that there is action in Huizhou is like saying there is action in Shenzhen. Both are prefecture level cities. And there is a distinct lack of clarity whether the desirable saunas are in or near the Huizhou CBD (in Huicheng district) or at Danshui (in Huiyang district), or both places!

Danshui is a subdistrict of Huiyang, in the same way that Dongmen is a subdistrict of Louhu. Danshui is maybe 20 km south of Huizhou CBD (railway station). In fact Danshui is much closer to Longgang than Huizhou CBD.

If there was action in Huizhou CBD I would take train from Shenzhen Bei. If only action in Danshui, then bus would be the better option (it would be ridiculous going via ChangPing and using the travel agency bus service).

Can anyone provide more precise information regarding the locations and names of appropriate saunas or hotels with saunas (PM me if you like)? BTW I have made note of the Hao Yi Kang International Hotel in Danshui.

That is not true at all I was in Huizhou for one night last week to visit friend a few ISG member are posting that I will be next CP why the central government clean up the infamous town of CP and allow HUIZHOU sauna and KTV offer FS , only Naive member will believe that I go there 5 time a yr there are over 500 sauna in that area include Huiyang and Danshi have FS as cheap as 208 rmb about 5 yr ago most have closed down some are only offer HJ only now and some KTV have a some girl but offer to regular customer only, the crack down is for the whole Guangdong province and most of China I know one Naive member in Dongguan post Huizhou will be the next CP don't where is he getting that info from.

{S N I P} Viber is blocked, at least with China telecom Guandong.

All google service has been blocked by China since May 2014, and the block is most likely permanent.

If you have Google voice for voice mail purpose your best bet is to forward to a non google email.

If the social app is blocked right now, chances are they will not be unblocked.

Having a Skype online number helps, but it is not exactly cheap for the purpose, and if you are forwarding it to a local China cellphone you might as well giveaway your China phone number (most ringtone are enhanced with Chinese music). {S N I P}

Welcome!

WRT Viber (which I don't use, so I cannot test), a colleague of mine uses continuously, and he assures me there has been no interruption to service.

Nonetheless, the Skype solution was for TomSf, a possible tourist, who wanted to hide the fact that he was in China from his family and GF (who use Viber and Google Voicemail to contact him). So this solution would work irrespective of China banning these apps. I thought it may possibly be useful for others.

China is very unlikely to ever ban Skype because it is used so extensively by international businesses operating in China.

BTW Skype, Viber and others have all quietly handed over their encryption keys to China to facilitate their monitoring of communications. Google did not cave in to China's demands so they were effectively banned, although a few Google products apparently work intermittently. China also demanded that Google censor certain search words and phrases at China's request (like they do with Baidu).

I am not American, so I could be wrong, but I thought that Google Voicemail only operated on USA Cell phone numbers with USA Telcos within continental USA. But anyway, obviously no use to those of us who live in China.

P.S. You raise an interesting point when you write China Telecom, Guangdong. It is not uncommon for different telcos to offer different products and services from province to province. So what may work in one province, may not work elsewhere. And I have always used China Unicom as there has always been compatibility with HK and Australian 3G services and iPhones were available and worked correctly (it was the only Telco that did).

I moved to Shenzhen right after the sandstorm beginning of this year, I have been monitoring the Hong Kong forum about action in China also. Although I am very new to the hobby I might be able to help with getting by with internet in China.

1. Viber has not had, does not have and is extremely unlikely to have any restrictions in China.

Viber is blocked, at least with China telecom Guandong.

There are many ways to work around the restricted / bad internet in China, but most of them requires a few coin to do so.

Situation in SZ (from other source).

P4P in Shenzhen is slowly recovering. There are a few sauna (MP) reopen in Lohu area. FS is still somewhat hidden and limited, without contact you try some neighborhood to get a quickie up the building, but I was told most return disappointed. KTV is another option but expect to pay 4 digit after including KTV and drinks.

I was told by a few locals that there will be one more huge crackdown before the year ends. Most advise to conduct P4P activity elsewhere.

I thought it might be useful (and also address TomSf's fears) to provide more information about forwarding Google Voice to Skype when in China (or anywhere else outside Continental USA).

The solution is relatively simple. Buy a Skype Online Number ($60 / yr or $18 / qtr), and enter the number in "Add Another Phone" in Google Voice and activate according to the instructions. Thus all Google Voice calls go to Skype and access via laptop / tablet / cell phone. You could even forward your Skype call to your local China cell phone. Wow!

P.S. For the interest of others:

1. Viber has not had, does not have and is extremely unlikely to have any restrictions in China.

2. Google Voicemail services are restricted to continental USA. Nothing to do with China.

I leave next week landing in Hong Kong just to change planes. I decided not to do Shen Zhen this trip out of fear of viber, google voice mail being cut off. I will try again after Hong Kong protests end and China gov is not going after social apps. Like I mentioned I have a Chinese girlfriend and can't get caught going to China without her. Maybe I could get away with it but not worth the risk. I am instead going straight to Thailand and then Vietnam.

I was in Thailand a year ago in Sept. Thailand was rainy and slow. I should have picked China then. Because not long after I got back home the raids started in China I can't remember the month. There is always an issue going on in Asia. But I do prefer China as best place to monger.

BTW, Prior to the 2014 CNY yanda, I never wrote any posts saying Shenzhen was dead due to LE raids or any other reason. In fact, I was not even posting to ISG during this period!
