In my experience at least SG is not really a dangerous area. I've had one or two young lads try to extract extra cash when I visited a backstreet there but just ignored them and walked past. Nor do you really need a map or a pimp. It's just a few streets with many brothels crowded into a small area. Just ask any taxi to drop you off and point.
