Question. I am curious as to the girl / dating scene in Bali.

I'm late 50's, have done the Angeles City / Bangkok thing a lot just playing around. But. Never been to Bali. So, any advice would be appreciated. I've got a trip planned next April and trying to decide whether to stay for 3 days for a week, but not sure where to stay and where to go.

Appreciate all the feedback this forum has given, so it's time to give back. Spent a week in Sanur in mid May and had a great time with the X houses and fishbowls. I did not get a chance to visit all of them, but will give my thoughts on the ones I did get to see. To preface, for those who have never been to Sanur, it is a rather small and quiet beach town east of Denpasar, where there are more family and couples vacationers than anything else. Jl Danau Poso, a 2-3 km stretch, is where you can find most of the fishbowls and X houses and there's also lots of bars and restaurants. Jl Danau Tambligan (intersects Danau Poso at the roundabout) also has a decent stretch of restaurants. I really recommend renting a bicycle or scooter, it's not a big town, but it's damn hot and makes getting around a lot easier. There are taxis around, but minimum charge (at least for bluebird is 30 k). I rented a bicycle for 30 k per day, and stayed on Danau Poso and at first was hesitant to leave the bike outside of restaurants, bars, and fishbowls, but it was always there when I got back. They gave me a bike lock, but there isn't exactly a lot of things to anchor your bike to. That or use Grab motorcycles, they are dirt cheap. After reading the prices in Kuta, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me paying 5 x the cost versus Sanur, although I'm sure some of the Kuta club girls are classier. Fishbowl girls are certainly from poorer backgrounds, but there were some stunning girls and I can be a harsh judge on talent. That said, a week in Sanur is probably the most I can handle as it can get quite boring and I'the estimate there are probably between 150-200 at all the fishbowls combined and that number might be generous.

Fishbowls:

18: The first of 3 fishbowls (18, 66 X, 67 X) near the circle K on Danau Poso. There were few girls here each time I went, but more at night. If you take a girl from here, they'll bring you to 67 X, which is a very short walk north, as they have ST rooms.

66 X: Has a large fishbowl, but very few girls, more at night which is a common occurrence. Again, taking a girl here means you'll use the ST rooms at 67 X.

67 X: small fishbowl, but was packed with about 20 or so girls at night. There were quite a few lookers, all young, slim, very likely some young moms in there but I found the selection quite good. There are quite a few pimps at 18,66 x, 67 x. They were not hostile to foreigners but act like you know what you are doing. Prices quoted to foreigners 300 k for ST.

3 b: The most popular fishbowl, not large, but there were about 40 or so tight bodies packed into the room. The fishbowl window is small so it is tough to get a good look, but they do keep the door open as well. There were 3 or 4 rows. I ran into a Japanese monger outside of the place and we decided to check things out together. We presumed that the newer girls were seated in the front row and the older girls at the back, not necessarily in age, but to the scene. There were about 12 pimps, about 11 too many, and I'm not a fan of going through the middlemen, quite pushy, but hold your ground and you'll be fine. Took a girl from here, their rooms are pretty horrid and scummy, dirty sheets, although you get a towel and there's an in room bathroom with a hose and a bucket to wash down. She was terrible, lots of no this no that BS in the room. Took the 300 k on the chin and did not even waste a nut on her, told her to gtfo. Terrible session, and with so many girls available, damn shame. Japanese monger waited for me and we continued on our journey of visiting more fishbowls in the area. We traded stories of our tours in Columbia.

29 X: big fishbowl, about 10 girls. Papasan speaks Japanese, I could not pick up the entire conversation but did pick up a few things like BBBJ and no rushed sessions. A few cuties here but nothing really took my interest. While touring the fishbowls with my Japanese friend, they are treated with a bit more respect than other foreigners. I know this to be true in most of SE asia.

14 A: North of the passway, it's a bit of a walk and I likely would not have ventured here on my own. Fishbowl had about 15 girls, some were very cute. Because of the location, I can't see many bule coming here, but business is open.

11 be: large fishbowl, but with very few girls, quite a few on the thicker side.

505: only saw 4 girls here, none to my liking. I rode my bike into the place during the daytime, and the guys there were surprised, as in, who are you and what do you want LOL.

X houses:

The X houses do not have any line ups only ST rooms. Now why would anyone go to the X houses when you can just go to the fishbowls? Fishbowls don't get started until about 8 pm and so the X houses can come in handy for daytime action and I also found there are less pimps and willing to accept lower prices. I would commonly pay 250 k at X houses and 300 k at fishbowls for the same girl. You can also see the girls stand up and talk to them. At fishbowls they sit down and it's really difficult to get a get look at their figures. The X houses and fishbowls all operate together, they know each other, and the X house pimps will pull girls from fishbowls (at night) or from the girls' homes (daytime). You tell the papasans your preference and he will go off on his motorbike and bring them back. If you don't like them, tell them and they'll find another girl or just leave. It's a bit hit and miss, but I had some good success with the papasans that I developed a rapport with. If you had a session with a girl before, and know her name, just tell them to go get her. Rooms in pretty much all the fishbowls and X houses are half star smut shacks, but you can bring your girl back to your hotel room for ST, noted 2 to 3 hours max (same price), LT I'm sure is available but I'm unaware of the costs. For a 2 to 3 HR session with a hot young girl all for 250 k, I have not paid better prices in Asia. I did not go to too many X houses as I do believe that it is better to develop a rapport with the papasan, they will get to know your style and the recommendations become better, and they will appreciate the repeat business. They will also recommend newer girls that have just arrived from Java (or wherever), had a few brought to me that had apparently only been working a few weeks (believe whatever you want to believe) but this is the way locals are treated. Had a few conversations with local punters, they told me prices are generally 150 to 300 k depending if the girls are young, hot and new. So there probably is a foreigner tax, but it is small and reasonable imo. The papasans I'm sure take a healthy cut and so girls are doing sessions for what, like 10 to 15 bucks? And the girls in Kuta ask for 1 to 2 million? The pricing differences are absurd, particularly when it's 30 minutes of travel. I tipped each of the girls and they were all very thankful for a 50 k tip. Other than the 1 bad session, all the girls were really sweet, smiley and friendly. I really enjoy it more when the layer of fun is thicker than the layer of business.

41 X: Developed a relationship with the younger guy here, paid 300k for my first session here with a girl named Ora. 21, some baby damage, soft body, very pretty face, tiny little spinner, very low English. She had quite a bizarre personality as she couldn't stop playing with my belly button (an inny, but wtf LOL), but friendly and I had a good session with her. She was a bit submissive, not a starfish, but she let me have my way with her with no resistance, which is what I like. From then on, I paid 250 k, as I was passing by one night where it was probably slow and he countered with 250 k when I was with the Japanese monger (damn I got to hang onto this guy). My best experience of the trip was via one of the X houses. When you go to Maharani, you won't see it right away. There's a parking lot in the adjacent building on the right where there's a grocery store and convenient access to an air-conditioned ATM. East coast Sanur off Tamblingan < Sanur X area off the west side of Danau Poso. It's no Kuta shitshow but beach bars, cafes, etc. Are nice to have at a stones throw.

Update: In Seminyak now, an overpriced tourist trap (everything, not just women). Perhaps I'm just spoiled by cheap prices I've gotten elsewhere in SEA. Wish there was a Thermae-like bar here.

After avoiding options in Singapore I landed in Bali on Saturday. Stayed in Sanur around the X houses, which in hindsight was a mistake seeing as how the more touristy east coast area of Sanur has better food, more massage places, and better nightlife.

Before going into reports, let me just say that Grab is your friend on this island. Instead of renting a scooter (though I may do this later to explore the island), I just ordered a Grab bike and got all around Sanur for 30 cents a ride. More importantly, I've saved tons of cash and headaches dealing with stupid transport touts at the airport and around the island. So annoying the way they honk and ask if we're interested in massage boom boom. I got to Kuta from Sanur for around $1.60. So remember, when you get to the airport, bypass those guys and walk straight out through the alleys and you'll end up on a main road where you can call a Grab car / taxi (since you'll need it for luggage). Uber works too. Gojek surprisingly isn't too reliable. And then Grab bike your way around if you'd rather not rent a scooter.

After arriving around 9 pm and settling in I walked around Sanur, visiting the fishbowls down the Circle K alley. Saw some 7's but I hesitated to jump right in. The experience was a bit jarring for me. There were around a dozen Balinese guys at each location looking into the glass, and the girls hardly seem enthusiastic about being picked (not just by me but in general). Some are smoking and others are on their phones or singing karaoke. I decided to go down the street to 11 B and 3 B. Both were less populated -- both girls and mongers. At 11 B, I made the mistake of asking the guy there to show me some other options of girls. He had me hop on his scooter with him and as he brought me around (back to the fishbowls haha), it struck me that he's going to get commission out of this.

Then onto Sanur and had 2 different girls one a plain Bali housewife, next was Dede, had her 2 x and was fantastic service, each was 350 k per. Sadly, Ubud is not monger friendly at all. I was there for four days recently and despite working the apps and asking the question in massage places, not a thing. I did get one nice massage in my room but it was strictly just massage. On my last day I had one girl from wechat offer more (she was up from Kuta and waiting for her friend) but the timing didn't work out. If you look back over this forum you will see that the prevailing wisdom is resign yourself to a few days of celibacy, or get take-out from an x house in Sanur to keep you company for a few days.
