Ok, finally remember the name of the place, Kalijodo. It was in north west Jakarta from memory. Govt bulldozed the whole place down about 10 yrs ago.

Too bad as it was a great place with cheaper drinks and lady fun.

Just wondering if any places like Kalijodo exist anymore in Jakarta. Did all the girls move elsewhere in the city or got sent back to provinces?

You still have Kota and Mangga Besar but they have normal businesses amongst bars and brothels.

The very low end red light districts became too much of an obvious eyesore so were moved on. Rather than centralised areas, the dens have now dispersed to strips along train tracks or under freeways.

Just a minor correction: Kalijodo was big but wasn't the biggest in the world or even in Indonesia for that matter. Dolly in Surabaya was many times bigger. That was also closed down years ago. However, there were a few houses that managed to hold on. I have no idea if they still remain or if the area was gentrified.

Sad to see so many of the old institutions fading away.

I'm sure if you did some research, you can always find something you like no matter where you go. But my main point is this, Jakarta is NOT a true vacation paradise as outside of visiting some bars or spas or malls, really not much to do there.

You will spend more time stuck in traffic getting to whatever destination than actually spending time there.

I don't disagree with you. But I'm only staying 3 nights in Jakarta, and the first night I'll probably be too exhausted to explore the city because of my 33-hour marathon from New York. So, I'm sure I can find enough to do to fill the remaining 2 days.

Jakarta 15 yrs ago had one of the biggest slum brothels on earth (sorry, can't remember the name of the place but hundreds of cute girls on site scattered over dozens of brothels and bars). Been to both locations several times.

I found both locations to have similar prices (Bali x-house price to Jakarta spa like Classic). But Jakarta is a big city so much more girls to choose from while Bali have more limited options.
