My experience in Bali is somewhat different. I do my diving and snorkeling elsewhere. As for volcanoes, many flights cancelled recently due to the plumes. I have been lucky so far and have not been delayed. Think more luck than skill in predicting eruptions. As for weather, it depends on the time of year. Bali can get very hot. And daily showers never really bothered me.

I've been snorkeling or diving to the most southern Kuta beach, Batu Beling, Tulamung / Blue lagoon, and all these where perfectly clean and the water as well. Volcanoes, unlike earthquakes, give ample warning before causing real trouble. Also the weather was much better than in Thailand, with many more true sunny days instead of that perennial overcast.

I often feel guilty so I always give the ladies something. I often cannot take them out in the open so those I do meet who claim to be regular girls meet me in private. I cannot go to certain places because staff will recognize me. Also, Bali is not that big. One can easily bump into acquaintances. Just my bad luck. Come on mate. How long have you been hobbying? There are two things you need to reflect upon.

I assume it can be cash equivalent in USD as I rarely have than many bahts. Knock on wood, have not been stopped or delayed yet.

In Thailand there is also a regulation for which one must have at least 10,000 Baht in cash if entering visa exempt, and 20,000 if with any type of visa. At times they use that to harass certain people and deny entry, so be prepared.

Well written BBD, you described well what one can expect at these houses. This time I didn't bothered going there at all, and didn't repeated with the Red Carpet lady either. I'm now back to Pattaya and resumed my usual modus operandi, with good results. Different places, different vibes.

The reason it's simply its huge size built around totally and irremediably insufficient road infrastructure. It ruins anything you may want to do further away from your accomodation or even going to/from the Airport - unless Kuta is your thing...

That's interesting. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. To explain, and to get it out of the way, I am from India, and I was pleasantly surprised at the manner the roads in Bali were maintained. Less so in Lembongan, though; the potholes will ruin your back for life.

I was so impressed, that I promised myself that I'll make another Bali trip, and this time on a bicycle. I'd take the Bali roads and the drivers any day over the homeland. The road infrastructure in India, as you all may already be knowing, is worse than shit.

No kidding. The Bypass in Sanur is a serious barrier. I found an actual very nice room on the north side of the bypass for $13 USD per night. Besides the loud noise from the road, the other downside was crossing the bypass. You really needed to walk all the way up to a cross walk (which were few and far between, wait a while for the light to change or during daytime hours, for the cop who hung around there to stop traffic for the cross street to get over to the fun side. There were X houses on the north side of the bypass, but again, it takes your jaunt on a different level. And the lack of public transport is another problem. I read about the Bemos but I understand they have become few and far between, and declining in numbers, as well.

Both things are common in Thailand (the first is in fact a consequence of having fast roads). I have Googled Bali tollways with no results but the existing one to Nusa Dua.

Yesterday I went diving to the famous USAT Liberty wreck site up the East shore and no surprise there is wonderful nature all around. Even the (few) touristic locations there aren't overbuilt or too busyt. My point simply is, if I was to choose to live in Bali (I lived in three other ones beside my own), I would have to stay out of the city for mental sanity.
