Sanur is very quiet. Other than the x houses, you will not find much there.

IMHO, the X-houses on Danau Poso are plenty. I've been doing 2 a day of gorgeous good performing girls out of the X-houses these past several days in Sanur. One of them who can speak English, I have repeated and now I have arranged directly with her for an all-nighter at my hotel.

I simply cannot understand why people are dismissing the X-houses and what you can find there. IMHO, I prefer what I have gotten in the X-houses to what I got in Jakarta, in terms of value. If you stay in Sanur, stay in the south end of the area - it's where the X-houses are.

Disaster, I would not stay in Kuta, or Sanur. I would stay in Seminyak or Legian, about 15 minutes north of kuta.

Same nice beach, bars, restaurants, shopping, but not the madness of Kuta. you can find girls in Legian, (try 66 beach at sunset) and also the clubs of Kuta.

Sanur is very quiet. Other than the x houses, you will not find much there.

If you want a girl from a brothel, hop a cab to Sanur, do your thing, and go back to the west side again. But as Bellpepper says, why not try both Legian and Sanur.

I have stayed in both Kuta and Sanur and here are my views:
You get more value for the money if you stay in Sanur and it is good if you want a quiet place. But at the time I was there it was very, very quiet. In fact, a little bit boring. There were not many people in the streets after 9.00 p.m. And not many young people. Mostly middle aged and older people.

If you like swimming but not in high waves then you should stay in Sanur. Kuta/Legian/Seminyak is a paradise for amateur surfers (like me) so the waves are strong. In Sanur the water is calm but it is shallow so you have to go quite far before you can swim.

I have had good experience from the X houses in Sanur.

In Kuta you have a lot of action and lot of noice. So I guess that Kuta is not your cup of tea. But why not try Seminyak? It is more quiet than Kuta but never boring. I like the seaside near Double 6 with its beach, restaurants and hotels better than Sanur. And there are some action in the vicinity. It is also closer to the clubs in Kuta compared with Sanur.

Taxi from Sanur to Kuta takes 20-30 minutes depending on the traffic situation.

I have had good experience from pussy both in Sanur and Kuta.

Btw:
I don't know how long you are staying but you don't have to stay at the same place all the time. Why not stay in Sanur half the time and Seminyak half the time?

A small report on the current situation in Kuta Area.

Kuta:

went to a place last week with the name of salju massage. not sure that that is the official name of the place but there's a sign that says "salju massage" you can find the exact place by google maps:.8. 681451, 115. 229802

salju means snow and that's what they put on to you. from what kinda product it comes from. i don't know and maybe i don't want to know. first they use some oil and they put the stuff on top of that. and yes. it's cold

Good report on Bali. I have been there a few times. Since you asked for comments or criticisms: my general view is that you paid too much for the girls in most instances. Perhaps you were there to have a good time and money was not an object - at least not a big one.

The going rate in the Sanur ***** houses is Rp. 150,000 (~US$16) per pop + 50K or o tip for good service. The price quoted to you (Rp. 1.6 million) is 10 times higher! The 600K at Pelangi is probably Bule price as well - although I have not been there. If it is ***** house, it is likely frequented by the locals - which means the price is similar to the X houses in Sanur.

In Kuta, the prices wary a lot for the girls in clubs. I have been quoted Rp. 1 million for an hour by a girl at Bounty's!! I just laughed. I have been able to take girls from there for 250K-300K for ST; long time might be about 500K.

Obviously, these prices are dependent on one's negotiating skills and patience. Some guys figure that they are on a holiday and don't care about the price - they just want to get laid. Which is fine too.

the short version: we were disappointed with bali to some extent. it's a bit more built up and commercialized than we expected.

the girls are not readily available at all evening hours, as in angeles city and phuket. it takes some effort to find the girls. innocent girls are notably absent.

the long version: although we knew that bali was going to be a bit of a challenge, we decided to try it. as previous posters have pointed out, the bars don't get going until late.

the places that we went:

the bar and club area at kuta beach: not for us. loud, sleazy. thumping techno music. kuta is tijuana for australians.

double six, another area on the beach, north of kuta: more of the same. loud crowds. not possible to have a conversation of any depth.

pelangi bali, a *****house: we had a good driver who took us to this place. there is a bar on the top floor, and private rooms downstairs. 600k (= roughly $60) was the rate the driver negotiated for me for an hour with a sexy young girl.

sanur, a city: behind a circle k, there are two fishbowls that have been discussed at length in previous posts. younger girls of various quality. the girls looked bored and the atmosphere was unpleasant. we wanted to take girls out of there, but the price quoted was a ridiculous 1. 6 million (= $160).

living room / hu'u, two upscale clubs: one friday night we went to these two venues, which are across the street from each other. there were four or so blatant hookers at the first table inside the door of hu'u. overall there was a good mix of mostly tourists with some locals, a well-dressed clientele, and music that was too loud for extended conversation.

massage places, called "spas": i got massages there twice, in the seminyak area. at 55k (= $5), a real deal. good, hour-long massages. didn't ask about sexual services. they didn't seem available, but i don't really know. i was enjoying the massage, so didn't want to break the mood. i would guess that it would be worthwhile to get phone numbers of girls at these places and try one's luck after hours. the shops don't seem set up for hanky-panky. am i wrong?

Gentlemen, I would like to tap in to the wealth of information and advice that members of this site are able to offer.

I have accumulated sufficient Kris flyer miles with Singapore Airlines for a few trips during a break from my work in Vietnam and have been thinking of a few weeks in Bali or Lombok and a trip to Cebu and would welcome any advice.

During the day I just like relaxing, reading, and a little swimming, I’m not a great party animal so in the evening I’m not really interested in large clubs or discos. What I do like is a nice meal followed by a decent bar, friendly girls, game of pool, bit of fun and then a nice little takeaway to keep me occupied for the night. I will also be looking for a good GF friendly hotel/guesthouse, not into great luxury but somewhere comfortable preferably with a garden wifi would be an advantage but not essential.

Should I be looking at Bali or Lombok? Any suggestions or advice would be most welcome. I have also posted this on the Philippines branch.

If you are talking about a purely mongering perspective, Bali is better. There is action in Lombok for sure - but it is not as easy to find. There is one club in Sengigi for example where you can find WGs and the quality is not so great. If you are looking to get away from all the crowds of Bali, then Lombok is nice. You won't find wifi in too many hotels in Bali or Lombok. But there are plenty of garden hotels even in Kuta - you won't even know you are in a big city until you walk outside the hotel compound.
