Gentlemen.

Just returned from a holiday in Bali and as always I stayed in Sanur.

In terms of recreation, I again relied heavily on my friends at 11X located on Jalan Danau Poso.

They also appear to be housed in 88X (see Barri's map).

Many thanks for your report and recent information. On my first visit to Bali last year, I visited one of the Sanur Houses (18x if memory serves) and had a great time time with a slim 23 year old for IDR250, 000 and am considering dipping my toe into some of the other Sanur houses out of curiosity once back in Indonesia in a few months. I see in your report that you mention 11x located near Jalan Danau Poso. On the Bali X Map I can only see an 11B listed. Is that the same one, perhaps? Also, I can't see the 88x housing you mention, listed.

Just on my first leg home after four days in Bali and wanted to give the bare bones take on my mongering successes and failures.

Arrival: got a cab just out of the airport and bargained hard to find I still paid about 5 times too much (lesson—get a cab from the window and ignore the teams of blue shirted drivers telling you they are the best choice). Had booked a hotel in Sanur based on info from the forum and off we went for Rs / 250, 000 (about $25).

The hotel I had booked on line was cheap and looked OK, but when I got there I found it was in a very remote location, on a back lane with little sign of life anywhere. This I learned it pretty much Sanur. The cabbie assured me I was making a mistake by staying there, and claimed there was more action in Katu (I was pretty clear on what I meant by action). So I dumped my $35 booking and went to Katu.

Katu is the main drag for the young Aussie crowd and had a lot more immediate promise than Sanur. The first hotel the cabbie took me too informed me that they would not accept guests, so I left and had him take me to another place. The second spot called the Yulia Beach Inn ($60 per night) had no problem with guests. I ended up giving the cabbie some extra money on top of the already high fare, but was at last in a hotel and settled in.

Girls in Katu.

The bars typically do not have girls lounging about waiting to meet mongering foreigners. Many bars to have hostesses, some of which dance in scanty outfits and who will give you a number or who you can pay to take home, but not really an easy find. Although some were pretty hot, I did not take this route.

There were some street walkers who looked pretty stoned near ground zero, but they wanted upwards of Rs / 1, 000, 000, which I was informed by some older Australian drinkers was way too much, and that I should expect to pay about Rs / 300, 000 (about US$30). Too much for a stung out street hooker in my opinion.

Right around ground zero, after talking to the street hookers, some young enterprising fellow on a motorbike asked if I wanted a young lady. We started the negotiations and he agreed to the Rs / 300, 00 price I offered and took me around the corner to a massage shop. The madam and her girls were friendly and funny and we chatted as she called a girl to come over. Apparently her girls were not that kind of girl.

The girl arrived on a motorbike and was my kind of hot—young, slender, pretty face and spoke English. She was from somewhere else, been in Bali a few months, etc and so forth but I didn't chat her up too much as I was focused on just one thing. My negotiator took me on his bike and she on her driver's bike and we went to the hotel. She went in my room, I paid the guys the Rs / 300, 000 with an extra Rs / 5000 tip. She was good a bit naive and such, but worth the time. She gave her phone number after our work was done, which I tried two nights later. She did not answer so I sent her a text to which she replied 'I cannot come, I am having problems with my pussy'. Fair enough, stay home or simply away.

I tried some massage parlors with poor results. The first I found through a woman on the street who promised me all the glory of Rome for a pittance (always a warning sign) and took me to a place not so far from where she perched. I selected a very cute Balinese girl (or so she claimed) and we went back to the room. She was plenty of fun, but insisted that for the Rs / 300, 000 price I paid up front I could only get a HJ. After several minutes of negotiations and getting her to show me her goodies she agreed to a BJ for all my remaining cash (I had hidden most of my money except for about Rs / 180, 000 which she found by insisting I let her go through my pockets to prove I did not have any more money). I agreed and she did an OK BJ with a condom.

Massage parlor two was on one of the back alleys and I went into it just because one of the girls was so damn cute. Had two of them massage me for an hour while I felt out the possibilities. Cost me Rs / 90, 000 (US$9) for the hour to find out they were not willing to go the extra mile, at least not that time.

Massage parlor three I found when a cutish girl on the main drag, again near ground zero, asked if I wanted a massage (they are everywhere asking this question) and I bluntly said no, but I want sex. She said Rs / 80, 000 and asked me to follow her. She led me down an alley to a back set of rooms where her companion was slouching around on a couch. They both started rubbing me and I asked if they understood what I wanted. 'Yes, of course, take off your clothes and give us the money' they said.

I gambled and of course once they had me in the compromised position they assured me they only thought I wanted a massage, but for an extra Rs / 500, 000 sex with both of them would take me to the heavens. So after fierce negotiations and me threatening to leave (even though they had my initial fee) , they agreed to sex for an additional Rs / 200, 000. I paid and of course they had to again delay. But they were now both giving me a HJ trying to convince me to give more money, so I came just out of spite and went my way. Not bad, and got a double girl massage and HJ for Rs / 300, 000, but was a bit of a hassle.

Sanur: well I had to see what it was all about so got a taxi to take me. He drove over on the meter (about Rs. 140, 000 there and back) and took me to a couple of the aquariums (the shacks with glass windows, with typically about 10 or so girls looking very bored and about 20 local guys lingering about). There were some cute girls, but not really appealing so I didn't indulge. I suppose with more time I could have found more ways of enjoying myself, but that was enough.

So after four days Bali probably has a lot more to offer than what I found, but here is the summary:

• Girls in bars—there are some who will go with you, usually expensive (as per their stated price) and not predictable.

• Discos and clubs—for the big ones, girls have to pay to get in, and are more expensive (about Rs / 1, 500, 000 or $150) ; the ones on the main drag had some lovely girls, mostly foriegn, but it was loud and I ended up sitting in a corner by myself until I just had to leave

• Massage parlors—you can get what you want, but not straight forward and could be more hassle than it is worth-I only got HJs from 2/3 successes.

• Sanur aquariums—very straight forward, and lots of info on them in this forum, but a bit sleazy and hard to get around as they are spread about in a very residential type setting and hard to find.

• Street girls in Katu—they are there, they come out about 11 PM and can be had, but be careful.

• Young Aussie (or other foreign) girls—very hot, but usually with their boyfriends and not really into gentlemen of my character and charms.

• Pimps on bikes—certainly my best experience. Negotiate and tell them what you want. I was not disappointed

I'm very sorry that you did not have a good experience in Bali, It sounds the same as my first trip tp Bali many years ago. If you ever return stay in 3 to 5 star accomadation or a Villa, $25 a day won't get you much especially for a well travelled gent like yourself. Also I would get a driver for the time that you are there, one that knows his way around, and dose not ask for kick backs from papsan's, he just drives you there and waits outside till you finish then takes you to the next destination of your choice, at least till you know your way around the good haunt's. PM me for contact details of a driver. This will take all the pressure off, and give you more time to concentrate on the matters at hand. I figure, if you are going to do it, do it right. BTW it's 'Kuta' not katu.

You are right that places are hard to find, especially new ones. Your 289X first sounded like a new one, but the coordinates (Google Maps coordinates -8°42'22.93" 115°15'14.98") point directly at 889X in the Bali Monger Map, see attached pic. Is 289X an annex to 889X or is it just a typo?

Here are some suggestions from those lists for: "Indon word for pussy. I think breasts is tete."

Everyone seems to indicate that Ubud is a dry area. I only had two massages there where my wife wasn't around, and both times got HJ for 200k. One girl was early 20s, one was late 20s. They both asked me not to mention their names, as there could be repercussions for them if they were found out, so I won't repeat them here.

Don't ask straight out, be tactful; my approach is to talk to them, get to know them a little, then in conversation mention that "a lot of guys must ask for a special massage". That gives them a way to decline gracefully. Above all, be polite and friendly, you'll get better results that way.

Mostly I drove down to Sanur to visit the X houses though, because I could get full service there for 300k, as opposed to massage + HJ for 280k.

The road is a narrow one (single lane only) but paved, and it is on the left-hand side as you drive South.

The rate was 300, 000 Rupiah / session. The rate was technically for an hour, but I never used the full hour. It ended when I came, there was no post-session massage or anything. The system is strange. There are no girls on hand, the pimp goes off on a motorbike and picks them from somewhere. Occasionally I made requests like "young" or "Balinese" (the girls are mostly Javanese) and they complied, but mostly I just let them pick. I had no complaint with any of the girls despite hiring them site unseen.

I had a broken condom with one girl; so I had to tip her 200k (I offered 100k and she asked for 2). I realise now she didn't put it on properly, so check they do it right. Some girls asked for a tip, so I would give a few extra depending on what I had on me.

You can expect BBBJ but no CIM, then just standard positions. Some will allow COT. I 69ed one, but she wasn't really into it so I stopped bothering after that. The rooms are basic, and there is a bathroom / toilet for washing. They provide clean towels and change the sheets after each sesion.

The other place was 99x. It is roughly here: 8°42'20. 76"S 115°15'16. 51"E. It is on the South side of the road.

They asked 400k, I talked them down to 350k, then the girl they gave me was exactly the same girl I had had at 289x the day before! There was no real difference between 99x and 289x, except 99x was more expensive, so I stuck to 289x from then on.

I have followed Barri's Fishbowl Trail numerous times and never ended up in BIMC. Crossing from Jl Bet Ngandang 2 (just opposite Barokah there is a shortcut from the bypass to BN2) can't be very much different from crossing at Jl Sudamala (the streets are in differents ends of the long bend), but I made a 10 minutes exercise tonight: From Jl Sudamala I crossed the bypass 10 times. 5 times in each direction. It took me a little more than 3 minutes. There was almost no traffic coming from north, and the traffic from south came in pulses thanks to the traffic light at Jl Tirta Nadi. This was at 10.30 pm, but I don't recall that it has been much different just after 8 pm, but of course it can be different different days.

Then I walked down to Jl Tirta Nadi (which took another 3 minutes) and checked that there actually is a green pedestrian light there, so my conclusion is that the bypass can be crossed there absolutely safely in two sessions: just wait a little while for the green walkman on the second lane.

This is also probably the way a taxi would take if one catches it at the right point.

B.t.w.: If I don't "Tell the guys at 11X that your mate from Aussie recommended them" do you think I can still get it for 200 k as I usually do?

Sorry for the delay in my reply. I had typed it out, previewed and recalled submitting it but tis nowhere to be found. So here I go again.

The hotel in my opinion was girl friendly. Personally, I have seldom encountered any problems anywhere across Asia. On the odd occasion where a concierge queried my coming in escorted, I would simply tell him to mind his own business and should he wish to persist to get his manager. It takes a brave soul to assume he has certain knowledge of the relationship. I guess if the girl is dressed like a pro, then you invite attention by all and sundry. So just ignore it.

On this occasions, I just walked in as usual with the young lady minding my own business and noboby paid any attention. I suspect the Walk of Shame is more a fabrication of the punter than the establishment who will normally turn a blind eye. They have everything to lose. A customer.

Given the nature of the business, I would seriously doubt that you can just rock up and expect the same treatment as a long standing customer. But forewarned is forearmed. I do not have the papasan's name. There are three guys that seem to run the place and they are all much of a muchness. Tell the guys at 11X that your mate from Aussie recommended them and you expect the same price. Rp250, 000. After all it is not a bargain basement price. But never be surprised or offended if they try it on. That was my own experience at 29.

I appreciate Shuga's insightful advice. I appreciate its simplicity. For the record, I am not disabled. I value my safety and have substantial knowledge and experience of Bali dating back to 1979, regular visits including a 7 month stint living in Renon. This involved regular trips during the week into Sanur. I suggest that Shuga walk along Jalan Sudamala and approach the Bypass from there. If you can successfully negotiate the traffic then you can run the 'steeple chase' and climb up the concrete barrier and crawl through the hedge. Then across another 3 or 4 lanes of traffic. Give me a break. I'll use my brain and take a taxi, even it if costs extra because it will be cheaper than getting run over and visiting BIMC.

Being resident in Bali and living reasonably close to one of the beer massage places of Body Arum I was a regular customer for the reasonably priced no frills HJ, until today.

Knowing exactly the amount of rupiah I put into my wallet when leaving home, plus double checking before I went in, when it came to paying it was short 1 50k note. I immediately confronted them realizing that I left my wallet out of sight for 5 minutes when taking a shower, but of course nobody knows anything. It's only $5- in the end, part of which I probably would've given as a tip to the girl anyway but it is a matter of principle.

Although I realize it is my own fault and I should always be cautious, I somehow let my guard down thinking that after 10+ return visits and them knowing I live here they surely wouldn't try anything. I paid 50k less then the regular price for the massage, to which they protested, and left the premises to never return again.

They lost one very regular well tipping customer and gained negative publicity all for a quick 5 bucks.

Unless one is disabled its really simple: If you are walking just wait a few minutes at the road side and there will be a gap in the stream of cars after the traffic light has changed to red at MacDonalds. Cross the first lane and take a rest on the lane divider, look for a gap in traffic coming from left and then cross the second lane.

Even if grass might seem to be greener on the other side don't discard the other fishbowls on the east side: 18, 3B, 11B, 89, 505 etc.

By the way and for the record: Your '29X' is probably '29' (without X) unless you have found a new place?
