Let's hope that the Aussies believe this rumor and stay in Kuta. A party town, Kuta is for the young and restless, like when we were all in collage. Sanur is more mellow and laid back. Kuta is full of hustlers and con men always trying to sell you something you do not want. The WG's are the same everywhere with the exception that in Kuta they wear sexy clothes and makeup and charge 5 times what you pay in Sanur.

I went with a girlfriend and thought it would be better to base out of Kuta for the party scene and was done with it after the first night. It was difficult to sleep at night as the music does not stop till late into the morning. The streets are filled with shady characters after 10 pm and did not feel very safe, even if it was. Ended up spending the rest of the time driving out to Sanur as the food was better, less dealing with the constant hassle of dudes offering whatever they were selling.

If it's only 9 days and your travel time included, then you have limited time. Try just Bali or Jakarta. More time, then split and do both places. For Jakarta, there is a wealth of information on that thread and some very experienced mongers to help. Decide where to monger and then get a hotel close to it. Enjoy.

How long is your trip? Jakarta has a lot to offer but traffic is horrendous. You have to decide where to stay and monger in that area. I did split my trip between Jakarta and Bali. Two totally different mongering destinations. Do you do some sight seeing or just deep diving 24 hours / day? LOL If you have a couple of weeks, you could spend a week in Jakarta and a week in Bali. Flights are cheap.

However, I am starting a new job next week, so I don't see myself going anywhere for a year. It will take me two days to get there, but you probably know how that works. I am a man who likes his variety, and would like to try both scenes. And yes I would like to do some sightseeing, though I understand Jakarta is not the place for that.

I understand that July is the coolest (or rather, least hot) month in Indonesia and right after Ramadan. Some other poster noted that at the end of Ramadan, the fresh girls from the small towns make their way to Jakarta to being their new careers in the sex trade. Any comments on the better months to visit? In any case, I have a year to plan this, though I had originally hoped to visit Asia again, this fall. Guess, I will have my nose to the grind instead. But, it has been a nice mongering streak for me in the past 20 months. Trips to four countries.

Nothing to worry about. It's time to squeeze some money from the owners. You may find a X house or a Aquarium closed on a night and that is the day the raid is supposed to be. The owners get tipped off.

Yah, remember when they would raid the DVD shops? Funny because the shops would get the word the day before and clear out all the copies. Two days later they are all back on the racks.

I might not get free for another year (though the last 20 months have seen four mongering destinations in four countries and it was a good run). Trying to learn Bahasa Indonesia in the meantime, as it is supposed to be very easy to learn (it least it seems that way). Do you guys suggest a stopover in Jakarta first to taste the fruits there, or fly straight to DPS?

Just got back from and while I wasn't looking as I was meeting a young Indonesian GF I did hear that there are raids happen ATM including places like Riverview. I didn't have much luck with a RnT in Kuta and the girl spoke too was a bit worried about it. Likely something to do with Ramadan and new president.

I spent 28 days in Bali. My first visit in almost 20 years. Since it was a working holiday, I confined myself to Denpasar. Or more accurately, Seminyak.

I'd love to regale you with tales of lusty nights, but I'm not up to creating fiction today, so you'll be fed the truth, cold soup as it is.

Let me say right now, I have plebian tastes. I was raised on a farm in Wisconsin and was almost 18 before I discovered by chance (thanks Annie P) that one could copulate with females, and not just female farm animals. It was a wonderful awakening since I was days away from entering Holy Cross Seminary and a life of abiding tragedy.

Enough of that. Back to Bali. I liked the place. Except for its San Francisco-like retail and restaurant prices and filthy beaches. Actually, I highly recommend two Seminyak restaurants: The Corner House and The Organic Cafe (it's actually in Petitinget). Food generally there is delicious, lots of vegetarian choices and a fair good bit of Indian and Italian, though as noted, not cheap.

To pussy. I'd forgotten how sweet the Balinese are. Truly they are, especially the women, but then, I can only speak of surface interactions. I did make a trip to a massage parlor out in Sanur. A total waste of a trip. I'd better entertained my hand at home than taken the perilous 30-minute motorcycle trip to partake of that beyond the pale mindge.

Ah, but there's redemption. Being of a certain age, I still scan Craigslist. This trip was no exception. Out of 3 responses I made, only one replied, but it might take the Czech Chowder for these first 5 months. The details: A 40-ish North Sea oil rig worker offered a good time with his 22 year-old East Java GF. He was mostly a voyeur and Felliniesque director and enjoyed seeing the beautiful young lass roundly rogered (wishing she could have been rogered by the Wicked Roger).

She was about 5'4", slim, long legs, and hair blacker than the south side of Chicago at midnight. With piercing eyes and bullet-pointed nipples on a solid chest, she was the best sweat I worked up on the whole trip. While her English was limited, my Japanese-trained fingers elicited all the communication we needed. Grunting and panting is as universal as Esperanto, and this little princess exhibited fluency unseen in months by me.

We went a worthy two rounds and I made my required double deposits (they insisted on bareback and the through the wall deposit). I left a happy man.

The funny thing: the friendly and kind mick said he'd send me pics the following week. Three weeks have passed, and I'm still waiting. Oh well.

You could say that the true heroes of the story are the Balinese "Beach Boys", the ones who take the time to chat up these sunburned blocks of lard while they are wallowing on the beach, take them back to the chalet and then dive down into the cellulite in the hope of getting a better life.

Hopefully some of you get the irony in that. It's why I like to treat Indonesian WG's with respect.

Unfortunately those tattooed BBW's from the South as they like to so euphemistically call themselves are beyond salvation. And OS has a no cellulite rule.

Big mouths, big arses, big attitudes and a bad smell "down there". Every country has a place for their trailer park trash to holiday. The English go to Ibiza, Americans to Mexico. Aussies go to Kuta. Why would you bother helping a stranded whale when you could meet a SYT in Sanur for 250 000 and then go home and have a quiet beer afterwards?

Never been to Indonesia yet, (hence my questions) but I'm assuming you are referring to a "bum gun." BTW, I lived in a house with some Aussies (and they are wonderful folks) in North London, way back in 1981. They told me that Bali was becoming the popular destination for young Aussies way back then. I can only imagine what it has become over these decades.

I have repeatedly read on different sources, that Kuta is the place to pick up drunk Aussie girls late at night. Sometimes they may be lying the street. Maybe that is what those Aussies are after. But, I've got Yellow Fever and I am not travelling 6 k miles across the Pacific to hook up with large Anglo women. I'm usually in bed by midnight, anyways and sometimes earlier if I started drinking before the sun gets low.

So is there a most pleasant time to visit Bali? When is the weather most advantageous? Any period to avoid? I will be starting a new job next week and I think my mongering will be off for a full year. But, my plan is to hit Indonesia in July (when the weather is supposedly the coolest) and they are done with their Ramadan nonsense.

I am on my way to Bali over the northern summer, for the first time since 1983. I am sure it has changed just a dot since then!

Actually I have the read the forum but I haven't seen a lot of information about reasonably priced hotels in the down town Kuta beach area.

Sorry to trouble any of you long time users, but I would appreciate if some of you old Bali hands could point me in the right direction of a nice girl friendly centrally located hotel with good buffet breakfast.
