I really have no idea what you're talking about with tinder. If you are in Bali then it is a great tool. If you are not in Bali and have paid to be able to set your location then this is different, this is not something I would do.

I've never paid an upgrade for any apps and tinder has been great for me.

I am young, not the most handsome boy but I literally have had more than 250 matches on Badoo in Bali without even taking a paid subscription. I find Tinder fun. My report below describes what I have been doing for years. Still catch up with the now ex-Uni student mentioned, who is now married, a rather successful business women, but still enjoys a little bit of old age bule on the side! But as I even mentioned then, results are different depending on country, and this is confirmed if you look on other boards.

I swipe the girls I find good looking no matter the age, and very few do not respond, have a chat with the ones I really like and then filter from there.

I basically agree. However, there are a couple of things I do differently.

If in Jakarta, I wouldn't offer the holiday in Bali in the profile. It's too easy and common for girls to behave until they get the prize then attitudes etc change and John would then have the problems associated with returning her when a long holiday was promised. It's always much easier to wait until you know you mesh with the girl and then ask a fun girl if she wants to come to Bali for a few days.

I'm unsure where John is. Pretty girls online have heard a million promises before and place no faith in them. He needs to be at least in country and preferably in town, looking to meet now. Not still at home discussing a potential trip next month.

If already in Bali and not going to Jakarta it's still possible, just take more care with the selection process.

There are 20 million people in the Greater Jakarta area. That's 10 million females.

Of those, about half would be underage or over 40.
