This expresses well your mistakes, and why you missed what is good in Batam. Certainly, you should be aware that the place is not dangerous, but just full of "smart" people waiting for passive first-time tourists just "willing" to be exploited. Be an easy prey, and you'll be eaten.

First rule, don't be an easy prey.

Second rule, keep expectations low, and be ready to pick opportunities. Good things are not always at hand. One needs persistence, determination, intelligence, ability to move around, independence skills, 6th sense to identify good opportunities, good luck and moral strength to not care about bad luck. One must expect to have fails, to get also success.

I always repeated that I don't recommend Batam to anyone. First time, most likely the average Western monger will be bored and disappointed, because he does not know where to go, how to move around, how to manage things. Plus, this is not like Thailand or Singapore, where one goes to a house, pays, then gets 100% good service guaranteed. Here everything is more tricky, less plastic and sanitized, more exciting for me, but also unpredictable.

My first time, I booked girls as you, and as you I was disappointed in some case and also happy in some other. Now, I don't book girls, because I am not interested to have a stranger girl occupying my bed.

Don't venture alone to a disco until you are familiar with the place. If an ojek driver can spot you as someone suitable for the bullshit "This is a dangerous place. Let me accompany you, I can protect you and find girls", I can barely imagine the real danger in which you can find yourself if you meet some bad people (the ojek driver is just someone who wants to earn money).

Try again, and do step by step. Learning some bahasa will help. I would recommend to read the full list of my old reports. I go to discos but I am not a newbie. Plus I learned some basic bahasa, which helps as many girls do not speak a word of English.

I suppose as you said, and we all know, I should just get off my butt and go there.

Hi BP I was under the impression you were primarily a booking joint type of guy but reading your love of Batam prob you have an exhaustive list by now and many contacts.

It seems you did not read my reports? I am not claiming one MUST read my reports, but considered your interest for Batam (purely theoretical so far) I am surprised.

Many of my reports (reporting less than 50% of trips to Batam) are linked under the RoD. Easy to find them, linked and ordered.
They are useful to have an idea of what is possible to do in Batam, but not of what a newbie can likely do in Batam. Actually, the first time one is likely to be disappointed.

I nearly NEVER go to booking joints. Not my cup of tea. I did that a few times, and I always regretted. Once I have a girl in my room, I fuck once, then what? Talk? Watch TV? The few times I did that, I found myself nervous because imagining the activities and nightlife happening at the same time in pubs and discos, while I was locked in the room.

Most times, I sent the girl back right after dinner, to be free to go to disco and find new adventures.

My typical day is: wake up at 12, go to lunch, walk around and have several coffees at JCo, working on my laptop sitting at JCo (I don't waste my time in Batam closed in my room, even if I miss the aircon), at 9 shower, at 10 dinner, at 12 hunts begings starting from a pub then to a disco, go bed (mostly accompanied) not before 4am.
This is great, because I keep my European time zone and I don't suffer jet lag on my return.
I can vary that daily routine when I set an appointment for dinner with girls I know (1 or 2 or 3 together). Then we go disco or pub together, then back to my room. If the lady is new and I don't have the right feeling, we leave after dinner and I still have the whole night to hunt. Simple like that.

Howevever, if you don't speak Bahasa, as I assume, I wonder how you plan to spend your time with that girl till next morning. It can be really boring and annoying. You watching TV, she playing with her phone.

I would never plan to fly from the US / Europe for a mongering holiday in Batam the way one would to Thailand / Philippines / Jakarta / Bali in Indonesia / Cambodia..

What you say makes sense, BUT:

1) The cover with my family is already short after having had so many business trips to KL or Singapore. I really would not know how to justify a "business" trip to Philippines or even worse to Thailand. Forget a repeated sequence.

2) In Batam, I have some friends, new ones can be made. There is a lady who just waits I come to bring her friends. We sleep 3 or 4 in my big bed hugging like cubs. Unbeatable (I know I could do the same in T or P, but I need time to learn the ropes there and find a justification to go there).
