Hi Guys,

Just went to Batam last Thursday but was caught by the new computerised system over at the Singapore end. When I brought a ferry ticket, I was issued an electronic boarding card. It was very nice with all the required info on it. It stated the gate closing at 1. 30 pm. At the gantry gate, when I tapped the card reader, my watch was 1. 30 pm, however, the system time was l. 31 pm. Thus I was locked out by the system and was advised to take the next ferry. It was a waste of time. So dear brothers, please allow yourselves some time including queue time before the gate closes on you.

wavemaster is the only ferries now taking passenger to batu ampar which is very near to nagoya town which is about 5 minutes away
compare to batam centre which is about half an hour away from nagoya and the taxi is 50,000 rupiah to nagoya town.

at batu ampar u can take an ojak (motor cycle taxi) and be in town
in five minutes

friends in Singapore but none want to go there.What if I avoid dark streets at night and only walk about in the daytime? Also is there a village whare there

batam is okay, when arrive take a taxi from the terminal taxi stand
i think it is now 40 or 50,000 rupiah to nagoya the main town area
dont talk to the driver pretend u dont understand a word he is saying
for a first timer hotel FARMOSA is good.right in the center of town
check out other reports, if u cant find any good one the 4th floor of

Just back to Bangkok from two days in Batam and a week in Angeles and want to give some brief impressions of my first visit.

The people who have said that Batam is not Bangkok, Pattaya or Angeles are quite right - it is a place unto itself. If you were stuck in Singapore or some other place where P4P is hard to find or expensive, then Batam would fit the bill nicely. If you are used to Thailand or the Philippines, prepare for something completely different.

It was a 48 hour trip and perhaps not a sufficient amount of time to give a full assessment of the place, but we were happy to head for Singapore and the plane to AC after two days.

We saw about 6-7 fish bowls and there were few cute girls to choose from. Most of the girls (and what appeared to be their mothers and aunts) had permanent scowls on their faces. The mamasans were quick to discount to a "no taxi rate" but there was not much to pick from so pricing was not an issue.

We spent a chunk of time in Lucy's Oar House and PP Bananas and talked a bit with the owner. He was a nice guy and took us to some of the Nagoya area fishbowls on a walking tour. We ended up back at PP Bananas and took a couple of satisfactory performers from there.

The malls were pretty empty, even though it was Friday and Saturday and the new mall was pretty much unfinished. Center Point was the best of the bunch, but nothing like what a mall in Manila or Bangkok would have available.

Some of the Indo girls in the malls and on the streets were pretty attractive, and I understand that there is one mall in the middle of the island where girls from the electronics factories can be had at shift change. That might be worth checking out, but on the whole Batam was unimpressive. Angeles, on the other hand, just seems to get better and better, although they took down the barriers to allow one way traffic on Fields. As a walking street, it was way better.

let me thank you guys, especially william, for you advice before my batam visit.

i stayed at novotel. there is a pub on its ground floor. in the first night, i went there. there were live songs and dances by scantily dresses singers, starting from 10 pm. but, i hardly found any girls for company. the next morning i found the singing girls having breakfast at the hotel. seems they stayed overnight at the hotel. i don't know if they spent night alone or with some guests!

besides, one thing i did not like about either of the girls was that neither of them were at all interested in foreplay. i guess, this is the case with most commerical sex.

How do these two places compare in terms of location? I understand that the Novotel is across from Pacific Disco, but is the Panorama that much better located for the clubs/malls?
