Day 1

Got my Batam hotel 25 hours after leaving the US. Couldn't sleep on the plane and only slept 2 hours the night before I left. I should have been exhaused, but I was not. It was 6:00 pm and the bars just seemed much more fun then sleep.

Right after the bellhop (if you could call him that) left my bags, his first words were "massage sir". She took me into a back room with about 20 girls. There wasn't much Kareoking going on in this Kareoke bar. I picked a very cute one and went back to the bar. The mama asked if I wanted to sing or go staight back to the hotel, but I decided to sit down and finish my drink. This one was very affectionate with me, as opposed to the first one who was kind of stand-offish. The mama asked where I was staying and I showed her the card, as nobody understood me when I tried to say it (reads Horizona, but is pronounced differently). The woman nodded and smiled like she knew and hotel, and I was on my way. I proceeded to the exit, but the girl pulled me the other way. We went through a double door that I assumed was a back exit, but, WHAT THE FUCK, I was back in my hotel! Turned out that I was in my hotels own Kareoke bar the the ojek had just gone around my building (I was too fucked up on my cocktail to notice). Very convenient this was - a nice hotel with its own brothel. Either the lonely planet writer didn't notice (unlikely), or was a ***** monger himself (my bet).

We went upstairs, and jumped into bed. This one was on fire. One of the most passionate girls I'd ever had. It was a good, long session. We fucked again in the morning, and while she was good enough for every day this week, half the fun is in the hunt and with over 50 Kareoke bars in town (I'd been to only two and had one from each), I needed so check them out. At least I knew however that if I somehow found myseld horny and alone in my room, it was just a quick call for room service.

Island View hotel is ideal if you are going to spend your time int he disco until 6am anyway.

BUT if you plan to sleep in the early hours, forget, becuase of the noise coming from Planet Disco next door.

Other problem is that you need to take a taxi or ojek to the main entertainment area - unsafe to walk - expecially at night.

I wouldn't stay there again. For the same money, try the Hotel Puri Garden or Formosa.

For a bit more, try the Hotel Goodway (ex Mandarin). The best hotel in town is still the Melia Panorama, which costs Sin$85 (USD46) if you book through Jansen (jansen at nedbatam.com).

If you are staying for a few days, I like the Hotel Sahid Rashinta becuase it has nice Bali garden style grounds and big pool. See www.gobatam.hypermart.net for some photos.

The cheapest and closest to bar area is the Hotel Memory and Hotel Grand Palace just opposite Lucys Pub / Melia. Both cost about Sin$25 (USD15). Find their phone numbers at www.nedbatam.com

Batam FR Day 1

Getting to Batam via Johor at Setualang Laut Ferry Terminal. One way ticket will cost you RM50+RM6 port tax or return ticket for RM80 + RM6 port tax. I would recommend return cause if you were to buy a one way ticket at Batam it will cost Rp135,000. Currently the exchange rate for RM1 = Rp2,150. It takes about 1 hour 30 min ride to Batam Centre Port. The old Batu Ampar port was demolished.

I stayed in Oasis Hotel which cost about Rp225,000 which is consider expensive. Anyway went hunting with my friend. The taxi driver showed us a few places eg. Rio Rita, Dynasty, Sensasi, Femina. They are all fish tank like premises and only offer locals indo chicks. Finally I pick up a chick from Dynasty cause she was all over me the moment I step in. Paid the mamasan Rp260,000 and should have been Rp230,000 if you can alone without the taxi driver. The price seems to be more expensive now compare to the last time which is only Rp180,000
