I don't know about that. That's the area I normally hang out in. That's where they have the topless dancers.

Those topless dancers are good to go sometimes. Some of them end up working at Naughty Girls in Singapore 4 floors, but they start out at the GC.

Having explored pretty much the entire town now and felt like I missed out by not going to Crown, I decided to take a look and see what the fuss is about. To sum up this report, I was very dissappointed.

Headed to Glodok on Saturday night around 11 PM. The taxi I hailed knew where Crown was immediately, so it seems to be well-known around town. In the third floor or so after I took the elevator there was a security check. They are really strict and made me take off my belt. In addition, they wouldn't let me in with my footwear as they thought it was too shallow. Had to rent a a worn-out pair of shoes which they saw fit for 30, 000 IDR. Totally different from Stadium, where nobody even bothers checking anything.

Paid my ticket which I can't remember how much but it included a free beer.

Anyway, it's just a normal disco where the classy locals hang out, most of them Chinese-Indos. There is a lounge area with live band also but it's definitely for groups only. It seems overall at Crown that it's just groups of people hanging out together. I made contact with a few spinners (nearly all of them were occupied with their handphones) at the entrance of the disco area and from what we were able to communicate with they made it clear they were not hookers or anything, just waiting for friends. Maybe it's because I looked like a local to them but these girls wouldn't even open up for casual conversation with my limited Bahasa, which is different from Stadium where I did manage to strike up conversation with several girls at ease and even took a freebie home once.

Oh, and they have this weird way of ordering drinks through a computer. I couldn't figure it out.

In a perfect world, people like this would have actually friends, and hence would not feel compelled to clutter up forums with their opinions and non-information. But, it's a big tent here, so what can you do.

Where is the Golden Crown?

Hi, yes in Glodok plaza, very easy to find. I have not been there for a long time, but it is one of the older nightclubs in the kota. About 10 years and a little bit more seedy than Stadium. It seems to be popular now- at least going by what I read on jakarta 100 bars. It rates it quite high and marks it as "one of the safe places to go, if you don't know the city". Well, as you may read in the comment section of the blog, below, about it's security and safety, I much doubt all will agree with that.

Hi, yes I did some online research on scopolamine and it it is indeed a 'truth serum' that wud explain how my safe was mysteriously able to be opened and my ATM card stolen.

I think I've used one of my 9 lives. Damn lucky to get out of that incident with all my vital organs intact.

I think I will leave jakarta alone until I'm a more experienced monger. My many trips to PI haven't hardened my up for the challenges of Jakarta.

I find Golden Crown a strange choice for a newbie to Jakarta. How the heck did you end up choosing that place as one of the spots to hit on your first visit to Jakarta? Any place where an ecstacy high is the main attraction for people attending is going to have thieves and scammers. I've had guys try to pick my pockets in there hoping that I was high. But I've never done X in there nor had anything to drink there other than bottled water. For a first visit to Jakarta, I would think Golden Crown is a little over the top. That's the kind of place I wouldn't recommend unless you went with a friend who spoke Bahasa Indonesia.

Your story is indeed a good reminder to not ever allow a stranger to buy you a drink. That's the 3rd time I've heard of such a story in Jakarta, and I'm sure it happens much more often than that. Glad you came out ok.

Arrived, payed the 35k cover charge and proceeded inside to the main disco where the music was techno / doof doof or whatever they call it these days. And close to the stairs a foreigner approached me and said he was glad to see another foreigner to talk to.

He said he was from Dubai on holiday, and was planning to go to Bangkok the next day. He was of arab descent, well built (obviously a gym buff). Said he ran his own business in Dubai. Nothing to be suspicious of at that point. He asked me where I was staying. I told him the name of the hotel. Hotel Peninsula, jalan manga bassar (next door to Oasis spa)

Went upstairs with him. 'I invited you so I want to buy you a beer'. Can't remember if the beer was opened when it arrived, or if he gave it to me. I don't remember feeling quesy, or dizzy or being hit on the head, or anything. JUST NOTHING AFTER THAT POINT.

Next thing I remember is waking up around 9 in the morning in my hotel room.

From my pocket my wallet was missing with 1. 5m taken out. 600k was left an my smart phone was stolen.

Not want to rub your nose in it, but if you ever went to Dubai you would know most of the real work is done there by filipinos, the arabs and blacks do nothing, unless they are wearing a bed sheet and working for the government. You were very lucky, I never make friends at all for that reason, touch wood.

I have been living in Indonesia (and using another forum) for over 3 years, and have never had a problem accessing the site.

I have noticed that xtube and redtube have been blocked, but surprisingly few other sites seem to be blocked.

Bought 2 beers and talked to a hooker who immediately started the requests for ecstasy. A lot of partygoers in indonesia partake in E, characterised by their swaying heads side to side, and backwards and forwards in an exagerated manner. Bought the girl a beer and packet of ciggies. Waiter brought the drinks and a glass of ice. As the waiter brought the drink, I didn't notice anything amiss. Can't remember if the can was opened when it arrived. She typed in 300k on her phone and showed it to me. I said I was only their to drink. Anyway, scoped out the place for another hour. Thats a long time so if my drink was spiked I dunno if the effects take that long to take effect. I got a bit bored and decided to walk into the lobby and close to the stairs a foreigner approached me and said he was glad to see another foreigner to talk to.

Approached a few more girls, they werent that interested to talk but anyway we had conversations, so wasnt really that bothered. At this point around 20 mins had passed. We then went back down again and started dancing on the floor, I had just finished the beer and offered to buy him a drink. Went to find a waiter (as thats the only way you can buy a drink).

While I was standing against the wall waiting for a waiter. THAT WAS THE LAST I REMEMBERED. This was approximately 30 mins after he bought me the drink. It must have been around 2-30am.

I don't remember feeling quesy, or dizzy or being hit on the head, or anything. JUST NOTHING AFTER THAT POINT.

Next thing I remember is waking up around 9 in the morning in my hotel room.

I had left my oakleys on the desk in the room (but my ATM card I'm sure I locked in the safe). Both of these were stolen as well.

I had 2. 5hrs till my flight so I thought fuck it, need to get to the airport. So I asked the person at the desk if they noticed me come in. The girl said yes, you came in with a foreigner we thought it was your friend. I asked to see their CCTV but they said the manager was not in so not possible at the time. I thought fuck it, I need to catch my flight so I gave up and left.

Anyway, that was my jakarta experience.

Side note. Hotel Travel had some nice looking girls at 300k a pop. Seemed like a factory though so I didn't partake as I had a massage and HJ at Oasis by a pretty young girl. Great body but no english and was more interested in watching cartoons on the TV in the room. Hmm.

Reminds of my report of years ago. An American guy felt victim to an odd couple: an Italian guy and a Thai gal who used scopolamine. He met them in one of the posh clubs and invited them to his room for a glass of wine. They drugged him in there. He was unconscious for 17 hours. At least he and you recovered. I live in Colombia where the use of scopolamine (=burundanga) led to many fatal outcomes.
