Are the seedy places near (on) the train tracks still operational (one is called PLTU, the other I cannot remember?) or are they shut down? Are there any other seedy down market places that opened in the meanwhile?

Happy to report back after next week. This is more to manage my expectations / excitement..
Not sure, but I think one of these places has been replaced with a stadium?

Question: where / what is PenJ? Is that the gang alley by train track?

    Thanks.
Never mind, I found the answer. Penjaringan.

Unfortunately, looks like there was a crack down for Ramadan. You can translate it using the translator function by right click in Chrome.

VOA is available in Jakarta now as well, limited nationalities so make sure you're on "the list".

    Update on seedy places

Indonesia is opening up. And I cannot wait to fly over coming week. As some of you know, I like seedy places (e. G. PLTU - http://www.internationalsexguide.nl/...arta&p=2429677#post2429677), I wonder how the situation is after 2 years of Covid.

Yes, 500 k IDR. Honestly, don't care. Just want to come back to Jakarta.

This is my understanding as well. Only limited participants of ASEAN will have visa exemptions, but VOA gets you in and used to cost about US $37. Anyone know if it's the same price?

If you're coming now, enter at Bali, wait the couple of hours for your negative PCR done on arrival, then fly domestic to Jakarta. No Quarantine, no hotel stays, no travel restrictions. Easy But remember you will have Ramadan to deal with when you get to Jakarta.

If you're coming later, just wait: restrictions are being wound back quickly now. By the time you want to come, the rules will have likely changed.

FWIW, I'm in Bali now. Dead quiet here for tourists but heaps of girls. Unfortunately 99% have the typical Bali attitudes and pricing.

    Enjoy G.

    - VOA only applicable if you enter from Bali. To enter Jakarta, you need to apply for a visa. To have an Indonesian visa, you need someone from Indonesia to initiate that sponsorship.

    - If you have passports from any of the ASEAN countries, you can enter via Jakarta without visa.

    - No more quarantine.

That is as far as I know to date. Plan accordingly.
As far as I understand it, once you've entered at Bali, you can go anywhere in the country without further impediment. An open jaw ticket is the way to go I guess, into Bali, out from Jakarta.

And starting in Bali is not such a biggie. It's a nice enough place to spend a few days before jumping on a cheap as chips flight to Jakarta (or even taking the train across Java, something I've been meaning to do for years).
