Day 4:

Went back to Hotel Classic. Damn, another memorable experience. This was my second time at Classic, so I entered on a familiar territory. This time didn't pay attention to mamasans who where all over me, just walked around and watched the girls. Then I saw another angel. The wide ranging reduction of new and reissued KITASs and the drop in fortunes of the oil / gas and mining industries has lead to heavy nationalization of these industries in town. Much fewer cashed up expats returning to Balik for RnR has devastated the bar scene. All the old haunts are gone. Some new ones have sprung up but they are more family friendly than the old flesh pits like Joy's, Martha's and the Borneo Bar.

Add to this the general migration of girls everywhere from bars and brothels to online and it's easy to understand why the best options are now on the chat and hook up sites. Badoo, TanTan, Tinder and IndonesianCupid are the most popular. Yes, they do take more effort than walking up to a girl in a bar but as I said, times have changed.
