Inflation has reared its ugly head in D's Place. I was there Wednesday and went into the VIP room. Quite crowded in there with nude pole-dancing going on and some activity in the various private corners. That evening there were two dancing crews so a complete crew was back there. I was immediately approached by two of the young dancers with various proposals.

Yes inflation. Most of the time I work a different market or am with gf's, but going out regularly in Jakarta, I can see a price hike that has taken hold in the last 3-4 years and mostly in South Jakarta. Although prices in Maribaya have remained pretty stable, looking at the ST asking prices. Correct me if I am wrong, for blok M it went up from 300k to 500k. And in the five star bars (CJ's, BATS) from 500k to 1 million.

Especially the 1 million, crazy stuff. Comparing to what's paid as a monthly minimum wage, those look tourist prices. Bali price. You're in Jakarta, but they treat you if you were wearing flip-flops and a loud Hawaii shirt.

Above Thamrin, in Jakarta North, prices have remained much more stable. Eg. Berlian, Kartika 350 ST. Likewise, Atrium Mall, Jalan Jaksa. 300k ST. Even the tiny 5 star bar in the Aryaduta, the Tavern, the prices have remained pretty much the same. 500k ST. Goes recommended BTW, if you're staying in the Aryaduta, take the signature club. Free drinks and canapes at happy hour. The resident ayam in the Tavern are great. Pretty girls, that dress, behave and look gorgeous.

BTW, glad to see, I am not the only Dutch poster. What ever happened to the Dutch gents drinks on Thursdays nights? They used to be very popular.

They don't stay open very late. Their opening times are 17h00 to 23h30. But around 18h00 a good number of WG's were there. (10-20) Quality was OK to good. (mostly 6, but some 7 and 2 8's. ST is 1 hour and you pay 500K. Take a shower together (they'll wash you) and off you go. No problems with DATY, BBBJ etc. Service was good. One of them (Irma) even gave very good service. Treat her nice please.

Blok-M is a section of Jakarta which has some reasonably good night life, if you know how to find it. So here are my findings. Blok-M can be reached from most major hotels in JK within 10-20 minutes, in the evening, if traffic is normal. Take a Blue Cherry or Express taxi. Price to get there should be between 20-40K. (from the city center that is). Other taxi's can not be trusted, they will try to rip you and ask double or more.

Blok-M is an older part of town, but yet very lively. The street to try out is the Jalan Falatehan, in Blok-M. Any taxi will be able to find it. This street has a small number of bars with WG's. Just check them all out. Best time: starting 22h00 on Fri / Sat / Sun. I liked Top-Gun and D's but others can be good too. In the clubs which have dancing girls (definitely the best looking ones) , you can't take those out, usually. They can do some stuff (BJ) in a backroom, but ask 300K for 15 minutes, so forget about it. Some of them may be willing to go to your hotel after midnight, after the dancing is over. The non-dancing girls so to say, are the ones to look for. ST (2-3 hours) can be had for 500K. That's the going price at this moment (2013). Not bad I think. Dunno about LT, but guess that maxes out at 1M. I was able to find a nice WG for 500K. Please also give 'm something for the taxi back. Now IMHO some 40-50 Euro's for 2 hours of fun is good stuff. Indonesia isn't Thailand, but comes closer than I thought.

Massage in the Melawi Hotel

At level 2 the Melawi hotel has a small massage place. 250K for 1 hour of regular oil massage. I was not so impressed by how the place looked. The Hotel also has an ATM in the lobby, so that can be convenient.

SAMAYA massage, blok-M.

A far better option for massage can be found right across the street! If you like to relax between your mongering activities, Go to the SAMAYA Reflexology and Spa which is 50 meters across the Melawi Hotel. Really good massage for an excellent price. 1 hour foot massage costs 50K. (4 Euro!) 90 minutes body massage costs 120K. (so that's less than 10 Euro.) Recommended. Just do take into account that the masseur may actually be a man. Again, this is regular massage, but really good. At those price you want to give the masseur a tip, if you think the massage was good. I gave 50.

Other Blok-M stuff:

Short report: just wanted to let you know, that the Mulia Hotel, if you can afford it, is a good albeit expensive choice. Very good quality rooms, service etc. And girl friendly. Of course it has CJ's bar at the M level, which opens around 19h00 (things get going around 22h30) and closes around 03h00. Last night (Friday) CJ was really busy, some 300 people I guess, with 1/3rd being girls. ST starts at 1M rupiahs. (1 hour or if you neg. 1.5). So it's a bit expensive.

Alternative: take a blue cherry taxi to Blok-M where price is about half or less. The taxi will cost about 25, 000 Rupiah from Mulia. See my other report on Blok-M for more details.

As I left D's yesterday evening I took a Bluebird (ordered by phone) and as we left he went against the one-way traffic direction. When I asked why the driver told me the street was closed off by police because of a bomb warning in Oscars. He blamed FPI for this.

Quite possible, because these idiots had been busy in Jakarta all day, blocking traffic on the Sudirman which caused a tailback all the way to Harmoni. Never saw anything like it. They probably went looking for an easy target after that.

There was nothing in the Jakarta Post this morning about a bomb scare. Will ask in J. Pelatehan.

The Kebayoran police came down around 11. 30pm, closing down the road on the Pasaraya side of Falatehan. When walking past, I could see the bomb scare was actually in the Maxi bar next to Oscars. Both bars are closed since some time now, I believe. The atmosphere was pretty relaxed, in typical Indonesian style. Everybody smiling. The guys sitting outside on the terrace of the Falatehan hotel, next to Oscars, just remained there during the scare, happy chatting and finishing their drinks. Hehe. I didn't have that much nerve.

Was at CJ's bar in the Mulia Hotel yesterday. (Thursday) started to get pretty crowded around 23h00. A pretty good amount of girls avaiilable and quality ranged from 5-8 on a scale of 1-10. Did not see 9's or 10's. I guess there were some 150 guests and one third of them were girls. My experience: with some insistence and negation you can get a girl to spend ST (1 hour or max 2 hours) for 1M rupiahs. (some 75 Euros or 100 USD). Take your time to chose a girl, chat a bit with them and you may find a 7-8 with some GFE. Just be nice to them. Make some jokes, treat them well, and they will do the same for you. Still got to say it. Thailand is better.
