I rarely use a credit card in Indonesia, except for buying my weekly groceries at the SOGO Food Hall in Plaza Indonesia, for buying air tickets at my travel agency, and for paying for hotels when I travel to Bali, Yogyakarta, etc.

Unfortunately the theft or credit cards and/or credit card numbers is rampant in Indonesia, so I try to minimize my card use as much as possible. Even if the merchant is honest, the card number can be compromised elsewhere, such as at the processing bank. Earlier in 2008 a prominent Jakarta bank announced that over 15,000 credit cards numbers (including one belonging to me) had been stolen by one of its employees. Luckily nothing had been charged on my card but I still had to cancel my card and arrange to have a new one sent to me from the U.S.

My concerns about using a card at a place like Kartika is both the risk of having the number stolen and a new fake card made up, but more importantly the potential risk of having something like "Kartika Massage Spa" or "Ambassador Gentlemen's Club" appear on the monthly statement - guaranteed to cause problems on the home front!

Solution - pay cash, there's no paper trail, and it's safer.

Fake KTP (and fake freebie by the way)

As I wanted a break from the (real) freebie I had met in Mal Atrium a few weeks before, I decided to try a Jl. Felathehan bar. Apart from the infamous Bali Hai I had never tried a blok M bar before.

So I went to MyBar. I paid a drink to a girl but quickly realized it was not the kind of "company" I wanted and actually I was not really sure I wanted to fuck as I had a great session planned for the day after with my freebie. Didn't know how to get rid of her until a nice face girl (but chubby) arrived and asked me if I was with my girlfriend. I said no. She then introduced herself and after 10 mn the other girl became angry, took her bag and left he place. My new escort pretended to be a teacher and not to be there for working but just for enjoying and nothing else. The conversation was quite pleasant and she almost convinced me that she was here just for fun. When I told her I wanted to have a walk outside she agreed to come with me. And as Jl. Falatehan is not exactlty the kind of place for a romantic walk I proposed to take a taxi and asked her if she knew a hotel. When she mentioned Melawai it should have ring a bell to my ears but she repeated so many times that she was here not for money but just for fun. First I had to negociate the taxi rate from 100 Krp to 40 Krp which is already a rip off for a less than 5 mn ride. Then at the hotel: price is 400 Krp, no passport or ktp required, just fill in a form. In the room, to check if what she had said about her age, name, religion etc. Was true I asked to see her KTP just by pretending I wanted to see a picture of her when she was younger. For the name it was ok but not for the age (43 instead of 26) neither for the religion (muslim but pretended to be catholic, maybe she thought it's more suitable when it comes to hook a bule) and the picture. Wasn't hers. Definitely not. Fake or bought KTP for sure.

She said that actually her face had changed since she became a bit overweight. I pretended to believe her and we had a great night until 4 a. M. Each I mentioned taxi money she was replying that she was not a prostitute. Once we got dressed and ready to go I insisted "how much she wanted for the taxi".

The real answer eventually came: . 500 Krp. And yes of course she's no prostitute. A freebie in MyBar. What a naive man I was.

    Ramadan

Please search back to last September and read the posts by Oyenk and me (among others) about what's available during Ramadan.

Many of the girls who normally work at Maribaya Spa (the 6th Floor of Hotel Melawai) usually team up and rent a group of the regular hotel rooms on the 6th floor of Hotel Melawai during the first 3 weeks or so of Ramadan. I had some great two-girl sessions there last year that lasted up to 2 hours and still cost less than two house fees at Maribaya. Will try to PM you some mobile numbers if I can find them.

There is still some night life at Jalan Falatehan as well.

One important thing to note is that, while you can still find several "working" girls in Jakarta during the first 3 weeks of Ramadan, that most of these girls then travel to their "kampung" (home village) during the last week of Ramadan, so that they will be home in time to spend the "Eid" feast (known as "Lebaran" in the Indonesian language) with their families.

I would strongly encourage anyone from outside Indonesia who's hoping for lots of sex during their visit to avoid travelling to Jakarta during the week before the "Eid" holiday and the 4 or 5 days of "Eid" itself. Unless of course you have one or more special someone(s) lined up and waiting for you.

I agree and don't usually leave a paper trail but I have an outside Indonesia credit card account and have, at times, used it where it appears as a cryptic GAH which seems to refer to the hotel's previous name- Grand Ancol Hotel. Have done it in an emergency when I didn't have enough cash at hand but knowing that I can use it allows me to at least contemplate the possibility that in case I decide to have a threesome with one of the imports I can do so.Lol!!!

But yes, your advice about exercising prudence is good and should be heeded by all.

You change and go down the stairs after you've finished (you may wish to tip the locker room boy 5 or 10k) and surrender the token wrist band to the cashier who will then tell you the total damages. These range approx. from 1 million to 1.7 million depending on the girl chosen, the tip and other services and drinks that you might have had. You can pay by cash or by credit card including Amex. Once you have paid, the girl gives you a card saying 'Paid' that you have to surrender to the guard before you take the lift down. The valet parking guy in the front of the lobby will call a taxi for you if you want and expects a tip.

I hope this is comprehensive enough. Happy mongering!

    It's grim up north.

Recently finding myself at a loose end one afternoon I decided to take a trip 9/11 Jalan Industri. I arrived and wandered around the place but couldn't for the life of me locate any of the knocking shops, one security guard pointed out a doorway to me where stood a distinctly older chicken who seemed to be operating on her own, not what I was looking for at all. I went back down to the street where an ojek driver who recognised me from a couple of months back told me the place was closed, shut down after a raid apparently.

Then last Saturday I went along to TC to watch the late afternoon titty show and was most disappointed to find out the place was half empty and the dancers were keeping their clothes on. I later heard from a friend about the recent raid at TC (I had already heard about the unorthodox strip show the previous Sunday, a mama had said some of the non-professional, younger dancers at the club had been encouraged to give it a go) hence the police crackdown.

I now read elsewhere that Stadium has been raided recently too. What's going on? Is it a regular run-up to Ramadhan razzia special in Kota or should we be reading more into this? Is our favourite town beginning to clean up its act? Are the good days coming to an end?

    De Leila

thanks in part to the help received thru this forum, I made it over to De Leila (I believe this is the proper spelling) and wanted to submit a very brief report of what I found.

The place is designed for its Arab clientele, but I quite like the decor and the layout. IMO it's better than that of say CJ's or Bats, easily.. more comfy. better spaced out for better people watching too in certain respects.

I was the only whitey in there, the Arabs were giving me suspicious looks but I didn't mind/care. I didn't have any issues and kept to myself. I will say they are generally a sullen bunch even among themselves!

(perhaps long lives of sexual frustration, or whatever that case may be)

I am fond of Arabic sounds in music, so looked forward to the arabic portion of the music playing, but when it came they didn't play the disco influenced Arabic mixes I heard in N. Africa around 2000... it was more traditional and i didn't care for it. The live band on the other hand was much better.

there was a decent amount and selection of girls in the place. Some were true fatties of the sort you would not find in say a 5 star hotel bar.. but there were skinny(ier) ones as well.

However, what really turned me off and made me wonder what was going on was the presence of at LEAST 2 Mamasans in the place. One kept bringing me girl until I insisted to please STOP bringing me girls.

re mamasans.. why are they there? (they were not there the last time I visited the place over a year ago) What is their purpose there exactly?
why are they neded? wanted? is this somehow Arab clientele driven where they prefer the services of an intermediary? (which I personally abhor/detest)

as for me, it turns out I hooked up with a non pro Indonesian woman who now lives in Europe and was vacationing. She bought all the drinks, paid for all cabs.. and drained me throughout the night and subsequent morning/afternoon.

I figured asking her for money when she was leaving might be taking her generosity too far ?

anyways. that story is of limited interest to readers of this Forum. It's not likely you will find any/many non pros in there, I just happened to find one, or actually it was the other way around.

I never got the sense of what the going rate is but I suspect the "arab" rate is a little higher than normal... I would expect prices at least similar if not higher than CJ/bats, etc.

last note of interest. Saw one Arab girl there..almost certainly hooking. she was very facially attractive.. unfortunately a bit too bottom heavy, but that would be very tempting indeed.
