When I was in Jakarta a couple of weeks ago I went to do some mall hunting in Blok M Pasar Raya and was dismayed to find that it was being demolished along with every other mall in the area! It seemed they may be rebuilding it which seems amazing as it doesn't seem 5 minutes since it was new - maybe that's my age...

Anyway, Blok M Plaza remains and so I went there - around 5pm on Friday. There were a lot of girls in there and quite a few freelancers. I got a room for 205k which was a bit run down but good enough for the job at hand and was joined by the cewek after I'd sms-ed the number to her. But thereafter, things went down hill. Her looks weren't what the photo had shown. Surprise! Surprise! After my visit to Today Country in Manga Besar I decided to pay a visit to Mal Atrium in Senen. Just to see if there were more freelancers than usual (a recent post specified Kafe Capuccino as a "major" pick up point).

I went to TC for the first time yesterday (Saturday afternoon). The entrance usually mentioned in the posts through 2nd floor of mal Lokasari (or 1st floor depending on how you count) is no longer functional (door closed). You can enter either from the ground floor of the mal or from outside the mal (turn left just before the mal). The entrance fee is 30 Krp incl. One drink. The place is OK but it has two big drawbacks: the noise is really deafening (virtually impossible to exchange more than a few words) and the atmosphere is very dark. I had to use my lighter to see the face of the girl the mamasan (Nina, fluent english) brought to me. And actually you cannot chose. If you don't like the girl, the mamasan calls another one and so on. Apart from that: price is 250 Krp for one hour, all the girls seem very young (I prefer more mature), rooms are very small and condom is provided.

It was worth going there but I will not reiterate.

If you can't find a Blue Bird taxi, one option is to phone them at (021) 7917-1234 and ask them to come get you and bring you to your next destination. Doing this means that you have to pay a minimum of 25,000 rupiah even if the fare is less than that, but there's no extra booking fee. If the fare's over 25,000 rupiah, then you don't have to pay anything extra, just pay what's on the meter plus a small tip (3,000 to 5,000 rupiah tip for a late night taxi ride seems fair).
