The simple answer is to remove them from the scene of the crime in order to enjoy a long and happy future. If you leave them in their own environment then both of you will never be happy as there will always be the last monger syndrome haunting you until you find the next one.

The irony is that this is what is expected - you find them you marry them and then when the past becomes too much you move on and she is left behind. This is perhaps the real tragedy of the situation - better to not start than to begin with a suspicious mind.

So what if she made her money in the old fashioned way - do you really want to login to ISG and have someone say "yes she was a starfish" or "she was amazing - good luck I taught her all she knows".

The US embassy's warning might be triggered by what happened two weeks ago to Chuck (not his real name). Chuck met this couple at X2, a guy of North African origin and a beauty from Thailand. As they apparently have the same business background, Chuck invited them to his room in hotel Mulia to have some wine. 17 hours later he woke up and found out that his wallet, passport, laptop and camera were gone. With a photo of the couple in his hands, thanks to the CCTV in Mulia, Chuck started to visit the known night-spots in Jakarta, trying to find some trace. That was when he met JAD2 and me at a juice-stand in Kota. He told us the story and as we also recognized in him a mongerer, we felt symphaty and for a week we guided him to visit some places. Even our estimated brother MDII, who happened to be in Jakarta, joined the search. But, to no result! Even the police has not find them.

We were right when we recognized in Chuck a true mongerer. He managed to mix business and pleasure several times, when searching for those criminals!

As my friend Mighty Spearsman says, this is a problem and apparantly it is getting worse. Just to add to his post, it's worth saying that one of the origins of this is that many girls still visit what some might describe as "witch doctors" in order to enhance their good fortune. Some of these people have a very pragmatic approach to this: they sell the girls something to put in an unsuspecting man's drink and having rendered him stupified they steal his wallet!

Mongers need to be particularly aware of this if they take two girls back to their room as they work together. I did so a while ago and noticed one girl putting something in my drink when the other one was "distracting" me. I was alert to this risk however and having "had my way" with both of them I insisted that one of the girls drink what she had spiked - not disclosing that I knew she had of course. They both refused but in response to their protests I said I would take the drink to security if they didn't get to hell out of it. They left empty handed. They were "operating" in 30Bar.

In fact, even if I had been knocked out, they wouldn't have got anything because obviously, everything of value was in the safe as soon as I entered the room: an essential practice whoever you take back. Given the side effects, obviously it's best to avoid the problem, although not taking girls back to your room is perhaps too extreme a solution for most readers to adopt.

It happens very often in Brasil especially in Rio. My solution is to lock the room from inside, if it can be done, and put the key to the safe or hide it somewhere. With this nobody can leave the room if you are sleeping.

- For those who haven't tried yet the mall hunting option here is a quick view of my personnal experience over the last three months during which I tried a dozen malls. The only places where I was successful are Plaza Blok M (3 visits = 1 WG and 1 freebie) and Atrium (3 visits = 1 WG). I was not surprised given what I had previously read in the reports.

Funny experience from last week. I went to Sarina's, just for buying some shirts. A girl acting as a sale girl with a fabulous rack approached me but one could tell that the uniform was a bit odd and I was curious what would happen. Then a regular sales girl approached but she received a deadly look and retreated again. As a U.S. citizen working in Indonesia, I regularly receive advisories from the U.S. Embassy. I feel that the latest advisory is definitely worth passing on as it is relevant to many members here, and I don't recall reading anything on this topic in the local newspapers:

"The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta would like to inform U.S. citizens that there has been an increase in “drink-spiking” incidents using animal tranquilizers within the last month, targeting males who are frequenting clubs and nightspots, including After Hours, BATS, X2 and Red Square in Jakarta and Desperados in Surabaya. The Embassy has confirmed that five males of varying ethnicities have been victimized since January 18, 2007.

"The effects of the animal tranquilizer drug are extremely powerful. Besides putting the victim in an unconscious state for a long period of time, the side effects include memory loss, nausea, headaches and vomiting.

"How Can You Protect Yourself?

 Never accept a drink from someone you’ve just met
 Do not leave your drink unattended when you are out socializing
 Make sure any bottled beverage that is served to you is sealed;
have the server open it in front of you
 The best way to protect yourself is to not put yourself in a position
where you’re bringing a stranger back to your residence or room"

The above recommendations make sense, although I'm not sure how practical the last suggestion is

I wanted the local sim for a week, How does the concept work?

You just buy a simcard of one of the Indonesian networkproviders for your mobilephone. It comes with minutes you can use to call. Usually the new card contains 10K worth of minutes. How many minutes? If you call a person who uses the same provider, you will have more minutes than when you call a person who uses a different provider. Most likely you will have to upgrade your minutes with 100K for the week you use it as you will have to call the girls. Mostly you will get a "missed call" message from their number.

The simcard itself is valid for one month after you upgrade it. You can buy such a simcard at the airport. They will try to hassle you, but don't pay more than 20k, including the 10K of minutes. Simpati and Mentari are the most popular providers.

Something else, you'll have to register the simcard. Ask you Indonesian companion to use her/his ID.

Tercar, there is an Adam air ticket office at the airport in CGK. You do risk however, if you wait until you arrive, to be faced with 1 of 2 problems.
1. flights are sold out.
2. All the inexpensive seats are gone, and the only choice is much higher priced tickets.

However, many airlines fly that route, and you can go to several of their ticket offices at the airport, in order to buy your ticket.

Of course, if you do this at arrival, after a long flight, in the heat and humidity, it certainly wil not be a pleasant experience.

I don't know why you don't want to book online, I have done it many trimes, thousands of other passengers have done it also, but to each his own. Good luck.
