If you are interested in white girls I saw some more at the Alexis hotel in Jakarta Utara. I was again, told these girls were Russian and expensive compared to the local wanita. There is a night club on the ground floor but I was also told that there is better action upstairs.

The Alexis hotel -formerly known as Grand Ancol- has, as you noted, a nite club on it's ground floor and has action upstairs - but it's a very upmarket establishment. Prices will be starting around 1 M, and up, for a girl. The top floor, where the action is, is a very tasteful designed spa - entrance fee is 120k which will get you a locker, only.

It hosts a mix of girls - amongst nice looking Indonesian, there are Thai stunners, stylish silk-dressed Chinese pretty's and as you write, some white Russian girls. .. Now, I have traveled Russia couple of times, even speak a few words, and I think Russia hosts some of the most beautiful Caucasian women in the world, but you may agree with me if I say that unfortunately these have not come to the Alexis hotel.. yes, the girls do have blond hair and blue eyes, but compared to the Asian girls there, the physique of these white girls looks like they will be doing a great job collecting potatoes behind a tractor.. 1,5 M - not for me, I'd stick to the local wanita, cheers.

If you go back 10 years, there's very little price inflation, if you're a foreigner. I was in Jakarta in October/November 1997 and the Rupiah was starting to fall, around 3000/USD. Hotels seemed expensive, by mid-western U.S. standards. My room at Atlet Century Plaza on the club floor ran 120 USD. A date at Bintang Mawar or TC was 30 USD (100,000 Rp.), and Maribaya was a little more expensive (not a lot more like today). I blew $70 on a hooker I met in JJ's, and she was pissed off because she thought I was underpaying!

Flash forward to May and June of 1998. There was rioting in the streets. Several malls were torched and went up in flames, and Suharto was deposed. The Chinese were running for their lives. The Rupiah took a nose dive to 14,000/USD. And you could find the cheapest, best quality poontang in the world in Jakarta. I was blown away by one cewek in TC, an honest to goodness "10", that I had for a little over 10 USD, including the tip. The room in the Atlet had dropped to $35. Even the Karaoke places were cheap! You could get drinks, a little plate of fruit and the company of a woman for less than what you'd spend on beer back home. The women in Blok M were suffering, as a lot of the foreigners had either disappeared or were laying low. Probably people were being a little paranoid, although I did hear that a couple of Brits were killed by taxi drivers.

Anyway, shortly after is when Indonesia started to become a really popular P4P destination for foreign sex tourists, because of the cheap pussy.

I have a theory. If you want to make money in emerging markets, both in the currency and the stock markets, follow the mongers. When they start to swarm a country, buy. You would have done well if you bought shares in Indonesia back during the period -- the market is up 5X since then and the currency is up about 50%. Then sell when the mongers leave. And if inflation stays up and the currency continues to maintain its value, that day may be just around the corner.

I first stumbled onto Kartika Massage in 2002 when I was in Jakarta for just over a week to attend a wedding. I learnt about it and several others like it from an internet search but Kartika was the only one that I could actually find with the directions that were given at the time. This post is a good reference point to a discussion from a week ago, which was about price inflation for sex in Jakarta.

It has definitely gotten more expensive to have sex in Jakarta, as prices have increased at the spas, thanks mainly to the 30% inflation rate since late 2005, and the girls' expectations have increased as well, both for the size of the tip (at a spa) and the ST/LT rate demanded by freelancers.

Kartika is a good example. In August 2004 the house fee was 200,000 rupiah, having just been increased from 175,000, and the girls would have been ecstatic if you gave them a 40,000 rupiah tip. By February 2005 the house fee was 225,000 rupiah, and by 2006 it was increased to 250,000 rupiah, and the girls will definitely expect at least a 50,000 rupiah tip. Factor in the drop in the US dollar exchange rate from 11,000 to 9,000 rupiah, and the cost of sex at Kartika has increased noticeably.

Another example is the Maribaya Spa (6th floor of Hotel Melawai). In December 2005 (when the US$ exchange rate was 10,000), the house fee was 320,000 rupiah tip included. It's now 350,000 rupiah, and when I was there a couple of weeks aggo, the girl I was with, Monica, asked for a "bonus," which I refused to pay with a smile.

However, as Bulai69 pointed out in his recent post, even taking price inflation and the falling US $ exchange rate into account, having sex in Jakarta is still much, much cheaper than in the US or the UK, and much more satisfying (at least with most girls here). Just realize that one will not find bargain-basement rates here (US $10 or less), unless one goes to a truly-dangerous neighborhood, or lucks out with a freebie or near-freebie.

In some spas, yes, such as the Malioboro (described below by Bebek), and the Sumo Shiatsu in Kelapa Gading, described by me in a post just over a month ago.

In other places, such as Maribaya Spa (6th floor of Hotel Melawai) and Kartika Spa, the girls seem to be on their own.

In some places, such as Hotel Travel and Stadium 3rd floor, there are several mamasans floating around, but it's not clear if they represent only some girls or not, or if they are just there to make sure you pick a girl (as opposed to leaving right away).

I posted earlier about a striptease bar at a Hotel. The correct name is Malioboro Hotel and Spa.

Located on Lj Gajah Mada No 13 A Jakarta Pusat opposite Dunkin Doughnuts.

The hotel’s lower floor has the full blown spa and works. The second floor has a large bar area full of ‘wanita’ all dressed in the same pink coloured erotic harem type costume. Normal hotel rooms are located above.

I was there last month on a Saturday night. You enter at the bottom floor and are given a wrist bracelet with a number attached. You can then proceed to have a spa or go directly upstairs to the action. At 9.30pm and 11.00pm about 6 girls do a striptease dance (down to panties only) they then go amongst the crowd and do sort of lap dancing with patrons while drinking from a shot glass given to them by a waitress. If a dancer chooses you for this personal lap type of dance you will be charged Rp50K for each drink she has. One large breasted girl came to me and I had spent Rp100K before I knew what had happened! The charge ‘Tequila Striptease’ appeared on my account when paying my bill.

Anyway to answer your question about mamasans, in this establishment there were at least 6 mamasans working that night. Each mamasan had her own flock of wanita. As I said earlier each flock attracted a different price. The most expensive was a mixed group of Chinese, Vietnamese ,Taiwan? with a few white girls which I was told were Russian. These girls were charging Rp1,5M for one hour in a small room upstairs on the next level. You could pay more for a better room but the standard room was quite adequate.

I chose a local girl who was very attractive about 20 years old - Rp350K. She was a starfish however and only sparked up when the time was nearly over.

Afterwards I returned to the bar area and had a few beers with friends while admiring the various lovely flocks of wanita being paraded around the very large bar area to potential clients.

I liked your post. However, I'm not sure what you mean by "new rule". I've been coming to Jakarta close to 10 years now. The security at the Shangri-La is notorious for "shaking down" the girls. They always hit the girls up for money if you don't escort them down - threatening to call the police to report them as prostitutes. Most security anywhere in Jakarta will get away with whatever they can. It's always nice if you can escort the girls out. Some of them have told me stories of the security guys not only wanting money, but sex and/or nude photos.

Folks, thank you all for your advice and messages at various points about Jakarta. And your invaluable postings. Just finishing up my first trip. And I must say I had a great time. Here are my observations. Slightly longish post, but given the help I have received from the forum, thought I would share most of my observations.

I would pick JKT over SIN / BKK any time for partying. My tastes tend to be “slightly upscale” – so not Gaylang / Patpong / Nana kind. (no offense meant for those who like these fine places.) But for me JKT turned out to be great.

Got in from Singapore on Wednesday morning. Had booked into the Shangri-la using the Value Rate – so had a Mercedes S-class waiting for me at the airport. The ride gave me a first taste of the infamous Jakarta traffic. Got into the hotel, checked in and started making some calls. Over the past weeks, based on advice of some of the members, I had started making some contacts with girls in Jakarta. This process, thought a bit slow and painful given the idiosyncrasies of faceparty, had given me some good phone numbers.

Called one and fixed the plan for the evening 8 pm for her to come to the hotel for dinner etc. Called the second one – she was ready to come to my room immediately! She hung out all night, and left at 11 next morning. Damage? Dinner and drinks. Not bad, faceparty.

After she left, I logged on and had a couple other girls reply to my offer to meet up. Fixed up with one for the evening – I wanted to meet her at 7:30 since wanted to hit the gym. She said I will come at 6, and just hang out in your room, while you go to the gym. Got back from the gym, she was freshly showered, waiting. Where do you get this idea that locals generally don't tip in a place LA Bar?

I was merely commenting on the 50k tip or 70k included in the report I was replying to. I tip for good service, and if it's not good service, they get no tip. Many of the girls I've talked with have indicated they get no tips from locals. Perhaps this is just the standard ploy to get more out of me. I know that I had tipped at some places like Stadium and TC and the girl seemed surprised as hell when I gave her a tip.
