"Special massage" in a 5* hotel is ALWAYS expensive. There are postings on this from me and other contributors. As for "going rate", they usually ask 1 juta and rarely settle for less than 450,000 (in my fairly limited experience) so of course it's very bad value for money. The main "value" for me is in the excitement of not being sure whether I will get it or not! Certainly you don't always score.

The mamasans (I have seen) around the outside of PI have been there for years, over 10 years in the case of at one of them. If you are desperate and can't find a girl inside (a much better option) it would be fairly low risk to go with one of them. A safer option of course would be to get her to bring a girl (or 2 or 3) to you to see first; they will often do that. Only once have I gone with a mamasan to view her girls and in fact I went with a regular contributor to the forum. We certainly didn't get into any kind of trouble; just a taxi ride to a goldfish bowl with around 20 girls. Neither of us took one but they ranged from average to pretty good: nothing dreadful and the price I recall was fairly reasonable, maybe around 400k though fellow contributor may have a more accurate recollection? [1] Nikko - actually went there with a different buddy, one who I'm pretty sure is a non-mongerer (of course I could be wrong). He was staying there and had charged the massage for the both of us to his room - he had actually wanted to go to a different place (can't remember the name but pretty sure it's a no-special sort of place - in the hotel next to Meridien) but they were full and due to time constraints, went to the massage offered in his hotel. The special service was HJ only and fully agree that the price was a little high. Guess I should've figured that extras were available when she ripped my shorts off, but I don't speak Bahasa so didn't know how to broach the subject.

Paid 25k rupes for 6 sticks of satay, a bag of peanuts, 1 nasi goreng, 2 sodas and a bag of tahu goreng. At least I got a pretty decent deal on the food right? Don't think that I overpaid... LOL...

yes, the ktv was a place for local chinese indonesians... as my buddy is a local chinese indonesian, whereas, i'm just chinese. actually didn't feel ripped off as prices for ktv elsewhere are quite a bit higher (used to paying 200-300usd per person - hey it's a personal preference). normally have about zero attraction to indos (which i suppose is part of the reason why i hadn't planned on p4p and didn't rtff in the first place), but the girl i picked out turned out to be pretty nice and actually started changing my own opinion on indos. we also got two bottles of johnny walker gold which runs about 80usd each in duty free, which made me feel the price for ktv only was pretty reasonable. of course i would've liked to have takeout but as i mentioned in the original post, was ok without it. was actually wondering what the price for takeout at a "local chinese indonesian" ktv was. based on other points of reference, at 75usd, i think the price is pretty decent actually, again - based on my own personal past experiences outside of indonesia.

anyway, fully admit that i was ripped off by the special massage place, but in the end i paid about 50 bucks when the appropriate prices should've been. at worst i was taken for 50 bucks - really not that big a deal.

in the end, not exactly asking for advice for a return trip per se. originally posted cause i was sort of surprised at the prevalence of p4p activities. again, as i mentioned, wasn't really looking for it, but just seemed to pop up wherever i went. just goes to show i suppose that the mongering club seems to be be more fully ingrained into society than even i was aware.

I actually wrote to J twice re specific posts that I thought were computer generated response and he did respond both times, and said 'no', he actually read them and manually made the recommendation. AND he even said went back to one in particular that i thought was not worthy, and he felt it was still worthy of RoD.

Only conclusion I can come to is he is trying to encourage newbies....

In deference to J, this is first rate board and so I have no basis to question how he runs it...
