Oh that is too funny, so the guys that run the anal-retentive, holier than thou shariah hotels just also happen to run the biggest chain of sleazy, short-time hotels in central and east Jakarta with karaoke, in house massage and bars catering to Arab mongers thrown in for good measure?

Just to explain USPetes comment. The Menteng Hotels are definitely banging hotels. Hence the irony.

They are well known in Jakarta that these hotels are very popular amongst unmarried couples.

Also, these are where Iguana and Tiga Kuda bars are located. Both low level hooker joints.

The Sofyan Hotel Minangkabau owners also run the Menteng Group Hotels ironically. So I'd avoid them as well. These are mainly crappy 2/3 star hotels with in-house massage girls. The only hotel in this group you could make the mistake of booking is probably the Royal Kuningan (which doesn't even have a bar) though it claims to be 4 star.

Although I've been using social media reference to wechat had me curious enough to sign up, but using it is perplexing me. I find myself needing the training wheels primer. How do I move away from my current location to see what's somewhere else? Also, all I see are profile pics and a distance. Is there any way to see who is offering services without having to open up each and every profile? It looks very labor intensive, but I'm also cognizant of my basking in ignorance here, so if anyone can chime in with a thought or two on navigating this app that would be great. The Youtube tutorials seem mostly useless from the standpoint of the monger. Thanks!

However, you could possibly stay at a Sharia hotel if you went out of your way to find one. If you are up for a Challenge and like to live on the edge, perhaps you could stay at a Sharia hotel. I've never tried this and it's just a thought, but it may work. When you arrive a the Sharia hotel, have a prostitute check in with you wearing one of those all black Saudi woman outfits that cover their entire body and face. You can claim she is your wife. After that, just have whatever prostitute you bring to the hotel wear the same outfit. How will they ever be able to tell it's not the same girl?

Are the hotels in Jakarta all green? Especially that I'm looking to book in a 5 star hotel (Ritz or Shangrila,. Etc), are they going to make a fuss if am picking a girl or two to my room every now and then? Should I bribe someone in advance?

Actually, two of the better-known monger locales are bars/clubs in 5-star hotels, i.e., BATS and CJs, if this provides any perspective. For example, BATS is located in the Shangila. And only the "sharia hotels" (as they were referred to by another poster in this thread), would place any restrictions on this (although I can't speak to whether some of the hotels would object to bringing two girls at the same time to one's room). And the odds of inadvertently booking into a "sharia hotel" by random chance is very low, and probably non-existent if one is looking at well-known 5-star hotels.

And no bribe needed anywhere as far as I know.

A good time to go? I'm solidifying the dates tomorrow morning for a hop around SEA from roughly 20 July-5 August, and I'm wondering if it's worth fitting into my plans. I'm doing HCMC-PP / SR-AC, and given the relatively dirt-cheap nature of the detour, I was wondering if the time of year would make it a wash. As an aside, will I have much more trouble as a Black monger here compared to say Thailand / PI? I'm mid-20's, not-in-the-best-shape-but-not-completely-buggered-either, dress clean, smell nice, and carry cash; that seems to be a winning combination most other places.
