Hi,
Can't say that I tried at the Akmani as there were too many people around.
Went down at about 1:00am and there were 2 guys at the desk, 1 person at the front door, 3 couples hanging around on the patio, 3 security guards on the first level and 3 more on the street level. I kinda got a bit worried that my 'date' and I will have to walk through a maze of onlooking eyes. Didn't try but as one member posted Akmani is GF.

Now I am at the Ambhara and as usual no issues, they know me now so walking past in no problem. Just the onlookers that are around are a bit much.

About prices, it varies a lot. In Dec./Jan. 2010 girls were actually quoting 1M at My Bar, but did get them down to 500,000, they wouldn't go much less.

Now I am here in May 2010 and they are quoting 300,000, which is fine for me. That's what I believe the going rate is. Lots of girls in My Bar yesterday.

However I suspected that the girl I was with wasn't 100% female. I lived in Bangkok for some time and was quite knowledgeable about LB. But this one last night didn't seem to be all lady.

Will keep on adventuring and report back here.

I can confirm what KL Guy said; this hotel is gf - absolutely no issues. I think the walk of shame is in your head - not really the concerns of people in the hotel. If, however, you still feel awkward, don't go up the stairs into the lobby, but walk around the side into the car park and take the lift straight to your room without even seeing the lobby. I also took a girl down this way as she left a bit late in the morning and didn't have "normal" clothes to wear. Just walked her straight out and got her a taxi so she didn't have to do the "walk of shame".

If your girl wasn't all lady, I can see how you might feel embarrassed - though why you took "her" when you had your suspicions is beyond me...

I think the dreaded Walk of Shame is mostly in a persons head.
Some years ago I stayed in the Ibis Slipi (very girl friendly, by the way) while there was an international golf tournament in Jakarta. The organisation had lodged a number of the players in Ibis Slipi and made sure the players were well looked after.
So naturally every moning there was a lot of fond goodbyes between golfers and Sweet Young Things at the front door of the hotel. Of course this did not go unnoticed by other hotel guests and on various occasions I heard people say how remarkable it was that so many golf players were married to Indonesian women :-)

Ya know I've stayed in hotels north, central, south. Its never bothered me. She walks in with me, and on the way out I walk the girl down to the lobby and out front and wait with her for the taxi (usually). Never really cared what others think.

Ambhara hotel - stayed here many times, very nice hotel, clean, good service, close to Blok M, good size tv, lots of english programs, small gym but ok, can manage with the gym, very GF, but be aware the walk of shame starts at Blok M

Now I am here in May 2010 and they are quoting 300,000, which is fine for me. That's what I believe the going rate is. Lots of girls in My Bar yesterday.

TAXIS:
Silver bird is fine but out of my range. My advice don't get flustered by the swarm of guys outside just look for the actual bluebird guy.

In actual fact you pay only an extra of 30 to 40K for a very nice & comfy Mercedes Limo used by Silverbird to central Jakarta and I use it especially when there is a line of people waiting for BB cabs at the airport!

I can confirm that Akmani is GF as I stayed there last year for 2 weeks and not once did I face a problem in taking any girls to my room! It is a fav businessman hotel. A lot of corporate type people during breakfast

Here's an update on hotels that I have stayed at in JKT:

Amaris hotel - small rooms, clean, very basic, small LCD tv, limited english programs, GF

Studio One residence - small rooms, clean, very basic, small LCD tv, no english programs, no gym GF

Millenium Hotel - ok size rooms, not run down but in need of some upkeep, but still manageable, breakfast ok choices, small TV, various english programs, gym recently remodelled, GF

Santika hotel - as I previously reported, really a 3* program but 0* service, rip-off hotel that caters to locals, gym old and outdated, tv small but various english programs, GF

Akmani hotel - good size rooms, clean, new, nice, regular size LCD not 'big' as reported by other sites, lots of English programs, small, very small, really small gym, GF don't know will try tonight

TAXIS:
I have read some comments on taxis, here is my opinion. If you are a first time traveller to JKT, be aware of the swarm of taxi drivers as you exit the airport hall, most of thse guys will have a blue shirt claiming to be Bluebird.
LOOK for the person wearing a BLUEBIRD shirt with bluebird written on it, keep walking until you find them. Don't get overwhelmed by the 'touts' outside the airport. Actually the bluebird stand is opposite the bluebird billboard on the opposite side of the street. I have been here several times but still only use Bluebird and Express taxis. Silver bird is fine but out of my range. My advice don't get flustered by the swarm of guys outside just look for the actual bluebird guy.

Report related to Alexis. Short translation, 30 houses behind Alexis Hotel burned down due to 3kg LPG gas tank exploding. No report of Alexis Hotel actually burning down. I think those firefighters actually put down the fire from Alexis first then to the source of the fire. Which probably why 30 houses were the result. Payroll for the higher up win maybe?

You are correct. It seems my source was exaggerating. The information I'm getting now is that some places in the surrounding area burned, not Alexis itself. I'll have to make a trip up there to check it out for myself. I've always wanted to try that place.
