Directions: Turn left into Mangga Besar from Hayam Wuruk, turn left first traffic light, BM on left

Cost: Rp200k for girl + Rp75k for room
Comments: Bar and rooms have been renovated, quality of girls has gone down hill since my last visit in late 2006.

Hotel Travel spa (Jl Mangga Besar 8)
Directions: Turn left into Mangga Besar from Hayam Wuruk, turn right at second traffic light, hotel on the left, enter the spa from door to left of hotel entrance
Girls: mostly 6s-8s, with the occasional 8.5
Room: 7
Cost: ~Rp290k + Rp50k tip
Comments: Quality of girls improved greatly from what i remebered. More girls inside in the pool room, missed this room on my last trip. Visited 3X on this trip, my #1 choice.

Today Country / Teria Ceria (in Lokasari)
Directions: Turn left into Jl Mangga Besar from Jl Hayam Wuruk, Lokasari is on the left between the first the second traffic lights. Go to the end of "boulevard", turn left in front of the shopping complex, turn right and go up the stairs, Rp30k cover charge incl one drink
Girls: mostly 5s, with the occasional 6
Room: 4
Cost: Rp250k + Rp50k tip
Comments: Quite busy at night, topless dancers comes on 10pm to 10.30pm. Lighting very poor.

Super (down the road from Jayakarta Hotel)
Directions: Turn left into Jl Labu from Jl Hayam Wuruk (before Mangga Besar junction), go to end of Jl Labu, Super on left
Girls: mostly 5s-6s, with the occasional 7
Room: 5.5-6
Cost: Rp250k(?) + Rp50k tip
Comments: Renovated, now has fishbowl at right entrance, lighting is good.

Rasa Sayang (around the corner from Super)
Girls: mostly 6s, with the occasional 7
Cost: Rp250k + Rp50k tip
Room: 6
Comments: Upstairs seems much smaller than my last visit?! The system is a little different. The "papi" will not ask the girl to come over if she is already sitting with another customer. But if you want to take her upstairs, the papi will get her number flashed on the LED and she will meet you upstairs. Girls seem very friendly, I'm rating this place #2.

Sari Ayu (Jl Pangeran Jayakarta)
Directions: Turn left into Pangeran Jayakarta from Gunung Sahari, go straight until nearly at the Mangga Dua end, SA is down side road on right of Panjay, next to “PH Massage” sign, another landmark is furniture store on left side of Panjay

Comments: Quality deteriorated? Lighting is very poor, cannot get good look at girls.

LA Bar (opp Sari Ayu)

Comments: Girls not as good looking as Royal but much friendlier. Fishbowl at back, lighting is OK.

Royal (next to LA Bar)
Girls: mostly 6s-7s, with a few 8s
Room: 5.5-6
Cost: Rp260k + Rp50k tip
Comments: Some stunners but cewek not very friendly. Lighting is very dim, fishbowl at back right is well lit. I'm rating this place #3 for the stunners.


Micellaneous:

Sparks Hotel - nude dancers around ~11pm-12pm. There are also 3 pretty girls who sit and drink with the guests. I got the distinct impression they offered other services after work. Abt Rp70k for beer.

Golden Crown - located in Glodok complex. Some good looking topless dancers from ~10-10.30pm.

Kartika - stopped by to have a beer but did not find the anyone to my taste. Same for the other bar down the alley from Kartika and a few other bars in the next 2 streets.

Please note that, while the Maribaya Spa (6th Floor of Hotel Melawai) will probably close down between August 27-30, that many of the girls who work there will stay in Hotel Melawai thru mid-September, renting out a couple of rooms (usually on the same 6th floor) and take turns servicing customers. Please read my post from July 27, 2008 on this subject.

No need to have the lobby doorman/bell-boy bring you upstairs, you can just go up to the 6th flooor by yourself. Please read my post from last year on this subject, the doorman/bellboy demands a 100,000 rupiah tip from the girls for bringing customers up to them.

The Sonia at Kartika that is often discussed here on the board is half-Chinese and has bright red hair, speaks excellent English (rare at Kartika) and (I thought!) was in her early-to-mid 30s. No. The fee is 260K inclusive. But, these girls work for tip and regulars know this. Many first time foreigners neglected to tip these girls. And, this is the reason why they add 50K tip on top of the normal fee.

And, I think due to psychology reasons, girls always ended up receiving more tip when the fee is paid at the counter.

This may be true but it does seem strange, as Kartika had increased its house fee from 250,000 to 300,000 rupiah in early June. Normally the MPs in Jakarta increase their house fee when they re-open after the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, meaning in early October for this year.

I just hope that you weren't cheated because Ramadan starts in less than 2 weeks. Kartika and most of the MPs in Jakarta (other than some of the ones in a hotel such as Hotel Malioboro or Alexis) are closed from one/two days before Ramadan until after the Eid holiday is over, meaning that the girls and other staff who work there face at least five weeks with no work and no income. Plus, the girls are expected to leave Jakarta and travel back to their home "kampung" for the Eid holiday (known as Lebaran in the Bahasa Indonesian language) with gifts and cash for their family/relatives.

Thus, many girls become somewhat greedy just before Ramadan starts; this year it begins on September 1st.

In that case, you have more than enough money to both eat well and monger regularly, at least once a day. So, please don't overpay! The going rate for long-term (overnight) for a girl you meet at a place like CJ's (Hotel Mulia), BATS (Hotel Shangri-La) or 30 Bar (Hotel Le Meridien) should be no more than 600,000 rupiah.
