It's been a while since anyone posted here, and since I just got back I thought it's time to give some kind of update on this place:

Travel:
Medan is a short 50 minute flight from Kuala Lumpur (for you Malaysian guys out there) and a sizable city of about 5 million (I think) sprawled over a large area. Currently arrivals are a bit chaotic as part of the terminal buildings burnt down about 3 months ago and the international departure terminal also serves as the international arrival hall. Remember to keep your airline check in luggage tags handy as they will be requested right now. We arrived in the morning and my friend foolishly hadn't checked his passport until it was pointed out in KL International Airport that he only had 4 months left before expiry (normally minimum 6 months required); they let him travel and warned him of forthcoming hassle on arrival! As predicted he was shuffled from one queue to the next before ending up in an interview room. Predictably this led to 300k Rps changing hands and after handing our luggage tags we proceeded to the pick up area. Nothing much to see except an unusually attractive white tourist!

Transport and Golf:
We normally hire a driver and Kijang for ALL transportation who charges us RM600 (600 Malaysian Ringgit) for 3 days and 2 nights - a bit steep but this covers airport, golf, karaoke, shopping centres whenever needed 24 hours a day! We went to Royal Sumatra Golf Club (apparently recently taken over by Koreans) which only allowed buggy on track but vastly improved course maintenance from the previous time I was there. The receptionist was a very sweet looking girl and I regret I was not more enterprising in talking to her - regrets.. I've had a few... Green fees were under 250k with buggy and caddy fees (female caddies and not the prettiest). Alternative courses are Bukit Barisan -Tuntungan (mature walking course with knowledgable caddies and flirty though not necessarily pretty umbrella girls), Graha Helvetia (female caddies as above, young trees and very hot on a sunny day), Martabe - on the way to Berastagi Highlands (slightly cooler, buggy course, some cute caddies but the course was a mess last time).

Food:
The other story to tell HM:- excellent (Malay) Nasi padang and tasty seafood. The Garuda at Gajah Mada or another newer branch (cant remember the name) is superior to any branch in Jakarta - yes it is branch sensitive! Also sample the Mango and Quini (more pungent than mango) juices as well as the soursop (sirsak). If you tried Laguna in Jakarta, try Waringin (next to Best Western) and have plenty of the sambal kecap if you dare. Superb gurame goreng, senangin pangang, prawns and some very nice jus jeruk (local mandarin orange) - not as good as juice in Bangkok though. These two places will provide enough stories to HM on why you put on weight even with all the golfing. 400-500k for up to 6 or 7 people to eat.

Hotels:
We stayed in Asean Hotel (Best Western) for 400k superiorand 600k deluxe - but there are plenty of alternatives: Novotel, Grand Angkasa, Danau International, Tiara etc. The main reason being 24 hour massage - but to be honest, the girls were not outstanding but a reasonable massage @ 75k an hour.

Karaoke, Malls and Girls:
We were taken to Airport Karaoke (dont go), Jetplane (newer and nicer set up) but both places had to call in girls from outside. Cost of booking in karaoke about 100k an hour (negotiable if your girl likes you). Take out is up to your negotiation skills. If you allow an agent to arrange all for you, the bill will be higher (as bad as 600k ST, 1 Million LT). You can bring your own bottle (advised as the local shit can be just that) and some places will charge you reaqsonable corkage

However as per other places in Indonesia, keep an eye out. We made many contacts with SPGs as well as girls shopping in Medan Mall. There was a stunning SPG (with those sexy glasses) who brought over a friend on the last morning. My friend and myself enjoyed ourselves for a few hours - no money mentioned - and my girl was happy to leave with the remainder of my chocolates (always a good thing to have in your room - prevents unnecessary mini bar consumption and keeps the girls happy) but I tucked 200k in her pocket anyway - yes I'm a sucker for good GFE. I also found plenty of girls in other malls (Thamrin and Sun Plaza) and was told there are plenty of college girls at Millenium Plaza (electronics mall). Just go and chat - who dares wins applies here! Sun Plaza had the least prospects being upmarket and relatively empty - SPGs galore in Sogo though.

All in all a good destination for a quick getaway - if necessary bring the golf bag for just 1 round - or even none! A good boys trip location and it even looks safe to the HM.

Actually you can find a lot of "fun" in medan, but it applies mostly for local
as for foreigners, you guys need to be more careful.

Oh, for your information, these are some hotels that should be put inside your visiting list.

1. Hotel Danau Toba: (the place where there was a plane stuck out from the building) it's a good place to stay and most FL's are around..

2. Hotel Asean: not a bad hotel. You can find "massage parlour" at its lower ground.

3. Hotel Grand Angkasa: (best hotel in medan, it has 5 stars rating) but never heard of any gals working there, except for Check-in on your own effort.

4. Hotel Garuda Plasa: Good place for a family trip. I believe you will avoid this hotel.

5. Sakura Hotel. You can find massage parlour named Pattaya massage, it has working Lady and you can view it by pictures.

Most of massage parlours in medan has extra services just like health spa here, and you can view the lady by the pic. That is the difference between medan and KL.

Prices are 150K rupiah to 200K rupiah for most of the massage parlours and

That would have been the Danau Toba International and the disco was Ari Kink Kink or something like that. The hotel is still there but the disco isn't (I dont think so anyway) and you have other choices anyway. The Danau has a bar by the side where you might also hunt. There's also the Novotel with the karaoke and Best Western with the karaoke and health centre. Sadly the Dirga Surya has been pulled down to build a modern block hotel. Maybe someone else has more helpful input.

Will be returning to Medan 1st week of August, not been for about 8 years or so, where would be a good place to stay, its a business trip, so need a 'respectable' hotel but also one that good for some of the local 'entertainment' or at least close by.

Used to stay at that hotel near that disco with the plane sticking out of the wall.

I was in Medan at the end of May and my read is that if you have the balls and some sense of humour the sales promotion girls are possible - especially the perfume counters. I had plenty of friendly waves and a couple of numbers from Sun Plaza SOGO and also from Matahari in Thamrin (2 phone numbers in a couple of minutes) and I'm not white by any stretch of the imagination. Taking a break from work, I visited Medan couple of days back. Having reached the city from Penang, I befriended an ojek rider who suggested me a convenient hoel suited for fun. It was cheap (Rupiah 85K a nite), but do provide massage services. The name of the hotel was Istana along Jalan Khatamso.

Settling in, the hotel lobby provides 2 kinds of massage services i.e. real pijat(massage) and santai. The latter provides prettier girls that provide FJ for R150K for an hour in the rooms. I opted for the latter and picked out No.40 from the displayed photos. Later came this girl named Inum, a young 24 year old from Java to provide the service. Nevertheless, although her attitude was friendly, her sex perience was very limited (this often do with young girls from the village). She did gave me a BJ (with condom cos she does not like the pre cum taste) followed by a FJ. Getting a hotel was a chore then, so no thoughts about mongering.

Then again this March came through for one night in Novotel, which does not seem to be a fertile place for mongering. Didn't bring my laptop so couln't pm you for your precious Rina, or whatshername...

Meanwhile in Jakarta, after discovering Kartika, not much exploring.
