I stayed in Garuda Plaza a few years back. The room was a bit shabby for the price, but locals seemed to like the hotel. I've stayed twice at the Danau Toba which was decent value for money, but it was often fully booked especially weekends. There is a night club on the ground floor, and a couple of venues just across the hotel parking lot. The Danau Toba has a web site.

Looking at a trip to Medan in April for golf. Looking for hotels. So far found CitiInn Sun Yat Sen and Garuda Plaza which seems reasonably priced. any comments or feedback on the hotels.

Looking for Medan hotels? Maybe my little recon this morning might help you.

Went to Jalan SM Raja, where all the supposedly main hotels are located. My objective was to find a clean room with WiFi and 250-300K. Forget it! What a disaster! A real busy street with sidewalks with open drainholes. And check explicitly before you book, cause 9 out of 10 said no guests allowed. Except for two hotels with overtly gay receptionists that quipped, no GFs, but BFs, okay. Yeah, right! One said as long as I have a different "wife" every night, okay. Same "wife" for 2 nights, without a marriage license, no!

I'll remain at the Citi-International, thanks. http://citi-hotel.com . The Jl. Palang Merah location. Newish, well run, clean, and with WiFi, provided you ensure that your room is near their routers.

My only gripe with the place is despite being reassured that their free airport shuttle would be there to greet me, it wasn't. What a disaster, to be left to the wiles of the damn touts. I suggest you call hotel reception and double check about that phantom shuttle before boarding your flight.

Oh, and the location is across from Danau Toba International hotel if you must have 4* digs. Very well run. Business attired security in the lobby. They check under cars with mirrors before entry onto their property. I'm told The Tavern, right besides the main building is a hotbed of FLs, but I can't confirm as I haven't had the chance to check that out. But the Danau Toba area has quite a few upscale malls within spitting distance, unlike the SM Raja area.

Don't go to m city. This place is quite nice but too expensive.

Also worker are cheater they will put additionnal expenses in your bill.

I have really bad experience there and will never go back again.

I was checked into a hotel in the centre of the city, behind the office of regional office of Bank Indonesia. I was very happy to note that the massage service in the room was available and also young massager can be provided. This was the good signal to go about.

I have a 30 minutes-late policy. I tell them beforehand, that if they show up later than 30 minutes after the agreed meeting time, they'd better not show up at all. Of course there were some who showed up after those 30 minutes, but by then I have left the rendezvous spot. Arrived in Medan and sms’d her, no reply. Sms’d her again at dinner time and she said she’d be late, she asked me for my room number and said that I should wait for her in my room (after I ate dinner).

Please note that in 2007 I had written that Nita turned her cell phone to 'silent' mode when she came to my room, that may explain why she wasn't answering my sms messages right away - her phone may have been turned to 'silent' mode again.
