Yes, Desperados is as good a place as any, although, you will pay inflated prices. But to be fair, if time, and reluctance to hunt are issues, then its a very good place to have a beer and meet girls.
For something a little more "different" i would highly recommend Deluxe, its a well known place with a similar set up as Desperados, although, i think the girls are in house rather than freelancers. I agree with Stiff in Jakarta - don't be misled by statistics from the 1990s.

A recent article about HIV/AIDS in the Jakarta Post stated that the government statistics show the incidence of HIV to be in single digits, and that the number of confirmed AIDS cases is also fairly low, but then states that the government authorities admit that the numbers are low because of their weak reporting system.

And Joel, even if the latter statistic has not increased, I for one do not think that a prevalence rate for STDs of 10% in nightclubs is great news!

There are options open to you, have faith!
1 you can go to Dolly, choose your girl, bargain with the brothel owner and have her delivered to your hotel for as long as you specified.

Tretes town is a popular tourist destination. Plentiful streetside foodstalls and also some nice restaurants. Yes, even Japanese.

Meat:
Plentiful but varied quality. You are always welcomed to browse though. Ages 18-30.

Very near Surabaya, very scenic and attractive area. Locals are fabulously friendly. Worth a visit even if you don’t want meat. Many beautiful walks and waterfalls.

Putu Truno waterfall is a bit further out but more scenic with less visitors. But Kakek Bodo has many foodstalls and a swimming pool (and more litter). Both Waterfalls are about 20 m high. There is a little pool underneath both for a dip.

Some hotels are marked on this map. But there are more. Plus villas and guesthouses.

The “cats” live in the myriad little alleys between the streets. You will need local help to find them and have a look. Some are old and fat while others seriously beautiful. All same price. $15-20 ST (min 3 hours), $30-50 LT. Tip is not really expected. If you want to do them onsite, there are rooms for another $3-5 for 3 hours.

In terms of quality, there is nothing that you cannot find in Surabaya for cheaper. But the town is lovely and the pace is much more relaxed. There are also nightly discos at the Tretes Raya and Surya hotels.
If you drink only beer you will be right. Otherwise bring your own whisky, etc. (Expensive bars have it all though).

Transport: you cantake the public bus as marked on the map, either from Surabaya or Malang. Alternatively, taxi fares from Surabaya:
to Tretes: 120 KRp
to Malang: 200 Krp

All day hire of taxi in Surabaya (5-6 hrs) is also 200 Krp.

Surabaya's Morosheneng Brothels.

While Dolly is great, it can be somewhat overwhelming. However there is a little sister nearby, just 10 km to the west. Follow Jalan Raya Tandes all the way. The name changes to Jalan Morosheneng and then Jalan Sememi.

Prices are same $8-10/pop. The setup is the same as are the rooms and the meat. However the street is wider, quieter and there are a lot less hassles.

There are food warungs and usually taxis available to go back to town. Otherwise you can flag one down on the main street (Jln Sememi).


You can easily beat in 5-6 points a night for $50-60 including drinks and taxi. Your driver might even wait for you a couple of hours for free or just a pack of cigs. All the way you just go straight to the WEST from Dolly. When the meter hits 35,000 you are very near. Look for King Café on the right and then the big arch “ Sememi Jaya 1” written on it. Otherwise see the map included here.

Getting around Surabaya Air + Bus:

Surabaya’s main bus terminal. The name is PURABAYA however the locals refer to it as BUNGURASHI from the area. If you go anywhere by bus from Surabaya, you will need to go there (for examle Tretes or Malang, Madura, etc.) It also has the DAMRI airport bus.

The airpot bus runs 7am-7pm every hour or so. If you come from the airpot you can transfer here to the local bus P1 which will drop you off in the city centre (near Tunjungan Plaza) or the harbour. Looking at the attached map might save you some hassle from the touts.

That city is hudge, and not worth a touristic visit, the only way to move easily is by taxi.

(Garuda Air wont do online ticketing and to my knowledge one has to go to an office of their's - or thru a travel agent (?). Dolly - lots of guys but mostly they are the touts. Harmless and if you take a second to look at their ladies and say no thanks they leave you alone. Was here on two differenble. That does leave though enough to take care of one on a trip.

There is a main road with a number of fishbowl brothels sporting 5-12 girls. Then off to the left is a sideroad filled with touts and the bulk of the girls are here. Further down the main road and to the right are 4-5 alleys with kaoroke bars. 99% of the women here in these kaoroke alleys are past their date of expiration though one might find something doable and its a little like a zoo. I found a comfortable bar with a pleasant owner and just hung out on the curb watching the circus go by.

The dolly fishbowls went from 55K-125k with the majority at 80K. Most of the selection is not going to excite anyone but there are enough above average girls that most people can find something to their liking. And, there are even some girls that, relative to the area's local attractiveness, are much better looking than others. Most of the good sex I had was in the 75-80K rate range. No negotiating here and the amounts are posted on most in most of the brothels. Many tried to keep an extra 5000 at the end saying it was to pay off the police but after a minute I was able to always get this back.

In general I had a good time here for two days. The standard was above average sex and I was quite impressed at the amount of good sex I had and even found one girl that I give my highest mark to and find maybe once or twice a year: a stratosphere girl.

I was able to, with a little searching, find cute girls, pretty girls, girls with huge racks, etc. Also, a lot of chubbiness seems to be almost standard with these Indo girls. But, again, I easily found what I really came here for, good sex.
