Very true. Brings back good memories of picking up OL's when I lived in Nagoya. As you say, any foreigner, LIVING IN Japan, with reasonable social skills and appearance should have NO problem picking up an OL. Just leave the cut off jeans and flip flops at home though (that only works in PH or Thai).

What I found out and now it's probably more so due to the COVID situation and workers being laid off, that in the past some of those good "OLs" were moonlighting in the Delivery Health / Hostess business to make ends meet. There is a huge disparity in the pay between males and females in Japan, and it's not strange to find a female making less than a male at the same company with the same qualifications and starting at the same time. So a few of them I knew would spend their precious few free hours doing the "wet business" as they call it. If you know how Office dynamics work in Japanese companies this can be hard since many times you are required to go out drinking with the team until late hours and then be back at the grind the next morning. But a few did manage to find a way to make ends meet.

Two-week mongers to Japan are not going to have much luck with OLs. You need to spend time in country, immerse yourself in the culture and learn how things works socially. Two-week mongers are better off going to soaplands, THC or delivery health services catering to foreigners.

In your case it was access to the military base and the perceived glamour of associating with a black US serviceman. Trevor Houchen was a DJ, singer and magazine publisher so girls flocked to him. Stefhen Bryan was an English teacher in rural areas, so a 6'4" black dude walking around the country side was a novelty. He milked his Jamaican roots for all they were worth. Going back a few years I was a semi-regular 2-week monger in Japan in the 1980-90's.

I worked as a service provider for numerous Japanese tourist companies in Australia, so was well versed in their cultural aspects. There was an unlimited supply of OL types here to practice on.

I learned much "sexucation" and "sexiquette" from the publications of Boye de Mente, a prolific author of books dealing with all things Japanese, including women and night life.

There was limited social media in those days, but I had no difficulty in finding OLs for a ONS. Jusat a matter of being prepared, it is not like gertting an OL in Phils or Thailand.

Read both books and have been in Japan since 2000 for 15 years, and came back in 2017 and if you are a Black American you will have somewhat of a better chance with some types of OL, especially if you are associated with the US military bases. Back when I was "out there" the fact that I was Black, American and had access to the bases was a key factor in my getting laid more than normal since most of the girls wound up asking me to take them to the base to eat at Taco Bell (believe it or not) and to shop, mainly for Coach bags since we don't pay taxes on those items on the bases and compared to a Japanese story you could see almost a 25% mark-up in taxes (so much for trade barriers). I have also seen many women who fell prey to Blacks from Nigeria and other African nations who told the women they had base access but never took them there because they were lying to them. Ran into one or two who gave me sob stories about trusting too much and getting burnt.

These days, from what I am seeing if you can at least carry a conversation, and one important thing, if you are going to be here an extended stay it's much easier (and cheaper) if you can cook since I've never met so many women who were not familiar with cooking themselves and see it as a novelty that a man knows how to cook for himself.
