After reading about Nishi-Kawaguchi some time ago, I decided to head down there to give it a shot. This was about 2 weeks ago. I think it was a Wednesday (mid afternoon).I walked around the East side of the station for awhile and tried to get into a few Soaps, but was constantly refused entry. I just wanted to add my two cents to this thread. I've been living in and visiting Japan for almost 20 years now and I've been to my share of hostess clubs (never on my invitation) and I marvel at the amount of money that is spent in order to have attractive girls light your cigarettes and pour your drinks, sing karaoke with you and provide flattering conversation. The majority (if not all) of this activity is funded by company expense accounts as far as I can tell. Certainly, during the bubble years this sort of expenditure was rampant but I've noticed post-bubble that many of those building occupant signs in the Ginza and Akasaka are now blank. I'm not sure what's happened to all of the mamasans who used to run these places but it certainly was fine times for them when the yen was flowing freely.I don't really enjoy this activity very much and find it a burden when asked to participate. I don't think it's the language barrier, either. Some of my Japanese friends and colleagues acknowledge that the whole system sucks and is a huge burden for them, too, yet they are obligated to participate. Perhaps it's my western feminism influenced political correctness or something like that. The girls at these places are very classy and most of them fairly attractive so it's not an entirely negative experience.The point is, there are other fun ways to spend an evening, often just at a bar or beer place shooting the shit and getting blitzed.

Agreed ! A hostess remains a hostess and we should always remember they are cash-oriented, even for nampa who are very kind. But anyway to have a Japanese g-friend to whom you buy LV bags, Prada shoes, etc... for good sex and nice chat at the restaurant is some kind of payoff for me. Depends on what you are looking for and your taste.In Ginza club, yes many companies have member cards, and executive expense the clubs, that's why many are generous. As Ginza clubs have good standing with classy and selective hostesses, majors corporations, banks, etc... allors their managers to treat clients there. Sidenote to this: A good friend of mine picked up a 'Ginza girl' went out and had a few drinks. She gave him her number and he called her again. She asked if he wanted to do something and he offered dinner. She accepted and they agreed place and time. She showed up unexpectedly with 2 more girls.As the dinner was ending she excused herself to answer a phone call. She didn't return to 'see' the bill paying - and put him in a very awkward position of having to deal with the bill for her AND her friends. Remember he only invited HER! As he was paying the bill , the friends exited the restaraunt. He followed quickly and cornered all 3 of them. He admonished the girl he invited and demanded her friends pay their part of the bill.He had never met this girl at a club. Hello! I've been to quite a few hostess clubs throughout Japan. Typically:1) Japanese hostess clubs are used to impress/conduct business. If you are guest of Japanese company, especially trading company, they will likely invite you to this kind of club to 'seal a deal' or woo you further. You don't have to pay if you are invited. If YOU do the inviting, then expect to carry full charges. Usual charges start at 10,000y/hr/person then go up from there.2) Some hostess clubs specialise in more social atmosphere as providing on-site companionship for drinking and karaoke. These are a little different than the general 'hostess bar'. Here is where the bulk of Japanese men spend their time and money. It is usually acceptable for the hostess to consort with the man as it it 'firms' the relationship and keeps him coming to the club where he continues to pay outrageous amounts of money for the companionship. It is an unwritten rule that if he get's to take her shopping and dinner, then he will visit the club. Occassionally there are services rendered beyond companionship (read sex) but it comes at a very heavy cost.3) There are numerous non-japanese clubs that provide a sort of mix of (1) and (2) usually staffed by Filipina or in some cases Chinese women. These are lower cost than the pure Japanese clubs. Usually starting at 5000y/hr/person. After a couple visits to the same clubs expect the staff to call you and invite you back. You might get consort activity with them with the same understanding that you will visit the club on regular basis.4) In ALL cases the women's drinks do not come cheap! Usually between 1500y - 3000y for each drink! And those girls can drink! Also, if you add other activity like karaoke to the service it adds more to the bill. And usually there is a general overall service charge of roughly 20% added to cover things like oshibori (hot towels, snacks, etc). So bare mimimum to get out of a club for 2hours your bill would look something like this: a) Entrance charge 5000y X 2 = 10,000y (includes 2 drinks) b) Ladies drink 2000y X 4 = 8,000y c) Service fee 3500y Total = 21,000Y and you still are a LONG way away from any pussy!5) If you stay in Japan long enough you might get to be buddies with a tout, manager or hawk. In this case you might get free entrance to the smaller clubs and just end up buying ladies drinks. Being a foreigner, but living in Japan, you might get better chance to nampa the girls or negotiate P4P. Especially now that the clubs are suffering compared to the bubble times.The bottom line:1) If you can't speak japanese then don't bother to go to hostess club unless you are invited by your client and it's absolutely necessary. Then if you feel in a very powerful business position tell the person who invited you that you wish company for the evening. They will generally arrange delivery service for you. Though may not be from that club.2) If you have friends that know hostess club staff, then you might have a small chance in some of the 'off ginza' clubs. Especially in the Akasuka or Roppongi area.3) The strip clubs and other clubs you will get touted by in Roppongi are NOT hostess clubs, however have much the same entrance/lady drink system. Your chances may be slightly higher because you can interact with english speaking women who largely dislike the Japanese clients they must serve.4) Given the base cost of any of this, the wise mongerer will do the following: a) Go to Heartland, 911, Motown, etc and enjoy conversing with any of the <free> talent. No luck for nampa? Don't worry - go to step b. b) Stumble back to your hotel and order up a 'delivery health' provider for around 20k. It's less now - especially after midnite, because their business is slacking. Or. c) Hit one of the available Pink Salon which are usually open until midnite. d) Or do the PS first, THEN go clubbing! You won't be soo obviously horndogged and probably have better luck at nampa! e) Find and meet a 'local' Japanese or foreign guy that can show you the best places to hang. Usually this means a previous business associate or someone you meet in a club or bar.5) My personal observation/experience after living in Japan more than 4years: "The best weekend you can have in Tokyo is a week in China" Do your business as required then hop over to Shanghai or Beijing. For a fraction of the cost and much better service you will have the best time of your trip! Do the math: a) RT Ticket to BJ or SH = 50,000 b) 2nites in 5 star hotel = 20,000 c) 8 -10 beauty with you all nite = 10,000/night d) All the food/drink you can manage = 10,000/day Just staying in a hotel in SH is half the cost of hotel in Tokyo!

My experience with Ginza is kind of indirect. The very first time I was in Japan I stayed at Yaesu Fujya Hotel near Tokyo Sta /Ginza. The hotel lobby information desk girl said that there were 2 clubs that were trendy and frequented by Japanese girls in Ginza. I don't recall the names of the clubs but I did try to look for them for about 2 hours with no success. Probably a good place for nampa as in general the women walking around Ginza are hot.Then in May I met a Japanese guy who said the best club to meet J girls was located in Ginza. Reggarding Ginza club, and based on my own experience, I agree to say that most of them are ripp off as you would get anywhere else in the world in the most expensive area of town. The clubs are very much like cabarets in Paris or SoHo, meaning that once you are in, they charge as much as you can pay, without providing anything. However Ginza is very different. Having been to many cabaret in Europe (I always asked the menu and the price, not to end with a $1000 btl of champagne) the ones in Ginza are much more clean, less sex-oriented, and provided smart and beautiful women. I have been there last time in April with a Japanese business man who works in Ginza and who know the hostesses and clubs there. Some do speak English, but I prefered to stick to Japanese since it is more kawai for a gaijin like me. I do not know the total cost since the guy paid, but I think I saw something close to 30k per persone for an hour to chat. So, for a gaijin staying a few days in Tokyo I would not recommend such a club, since you will get nothing else that chatting, and for a high fee.
