Here in Astana for a few days on business, enjoying the cold as a nice change of pace. The ice is a bit tricky!

Aside from that, the language barrier here is really imposing. No one speaks english, at all, and it seems the menus and such aren't really set up for the whole "point at that and nod head" order system you often find in other non-english speaking business hubs. RTFF'ing leaves me to believe there really is no good bar pick up place but really only the internet as the only (albeit poor) options? Is that really the case?

Indeed 200$ per few hours it's nice price for good-looking lady, but definitely not in Petrolium. For my opinion it's very old club in the city and girls there are very old or ugly.

As many other I want suggest you the SOHO club or Guns'N Roses Pub-Grille. These two places focussed for foreigners and you will find nice lady there who can speak English.

But frankly speaking I'm local here in Almaty and even I with my friends sometimes visit that places, so don't be afraid it's not only for foreigners club. If you want to open something new, try any sauna with your friend. Be absolutely sure in Almaty sex is not problem when you really searching it. And one more. I can advice you more cheaper places sure if you want (ex. Classic 5000 tg / hour for girl and 2000 tg / hour for room) , but all them located outside the center of the city and I've never seen any tourist there.

Not seeing many reports or good intel on the LT GFE experience is Kazakhstan really worth going to? I am looking for a 30 day R&R spot close flight distance from Kabul and want something else besides Dubai (been there done that so many times)

I understand your predicament: been in Afghanistan and know the feeling after a few months. My piece of advice: go to Bishkek Kyrgyzstan, get into a sauna and let them bring the girls on. They come by SUV load full and you can chose who, how many and how long you want them. Check the list, but if you are Greek you don't need a visa to go into Kyrgyzstan. Kamair used to fly to Almaty once a week (nightmare: they would suddenly change the day without notification- I always wondered why they flew that empty boeing 737 up and down, I am sure with the latest news stories on that air liner you know what it was all about I suppose, but they stopped. From Sayran bus station in Almaty you take a collect taxi for less than 20USD to the border and another one on the other side into town (USD 10 max). You could fly through Dushanbe, but then you need a transit visa and that embassy in Kabul is awfully slow.

No, there is no hotel near the airport, but take a taxi to Karavansarai Hotel near "Pervi vokzal" (first railway station). It is a bit seedy, but there might be girls around or they can help you find some. Otherwise try hotel Lyudmila, a bit to the right from Karavansarai- they have a sauna and it is cheap (not more than USD 20 per hour. That's about the best you can get. There is a market nearby where you can have barbecue, buy fruit, just walk around. It is at the moment. 20 during the day so bring your long Johns!

I have been in Almaty for a about a week now.
