I am across the border in NKP and haven't found anything on this side yet. Thank god there is an airport to get to Bangkok.

Can someone guide me where to get some FS in thakhek? The massage places in the city centre seems legit and many doesn't have private rooms. I went to Mekong hotel at night too but no hints of prostitution happening there.

On the street leading from the city center in easterly direction towards the airport, there are a couple of Vietnamese massage places not far from the city center. Both I visited where on the northern side of the road (round about 20.41474899969523, 104.05468452568068). The mamasans speak enough English to get the message ("boom boom" They have rooms upstairs but LT is not much more and gives you an evening and early morning shot. Sam Neua Hotel (20.413466599996237, 104.04985165857218) did accept the guests without any hassle. I don't remember prices, around 10 $ ST and 15 $ LT.

Posts: 84And would you say that most towns in Laos have an area of brothels for the locals? I recently did a motorcycle trip through Cambodia and most towns definitely, definitely have "massage shop" brothels for the locals.

Posts: 84This is my first time in Laos and my first destination is Pakse.
I'm on a budget so ideally I'm looking for places that the locals would go. 200 k for FS and thereabouts. I've heard mention of "shacks" and KTVs? Do KTVs allow sex on the premises?
Having been in Cambodia, the brothels almost always have a small lit up massage sign out front, with a few women sitting outside. They're incredibly easy to spot at night.
Tonight I took a ride around Pakse but wasn't able to locate anything.
What am I supposed to look for at night? What do shacks look like? Any particular lights or signs? Girls sitting outside?
Anywhere around Pakse I should be looking?
I passed a KTV in the middle of nowhere that had Vietnamese written on it, but I'm looking for a place to have incall service.

Behind the Xieng Khouang Hotel, there's a nice massage place run by Vietnamese women. Had great results.
Didn't visit, but there's also a pool hall / bar on the corner of the night market that looks like it may be fun too.

But Laos is a big country, there must be multiple other similar places. I hope some local mongers will eventually discover their location and share with the rest of us (which is how the original VV shacks were discovered).

Posts: 21Sad news from Vang Vieng
The shacks outside of town are all closed up!! (And one of my favs has already been demolished, and a new building starting on the spot).
I did find one place quasi open, and had some great times there. Access is through an alley between the houses. Take away not allowed. The mamasan told me as of Dec 30, they all closed up shop. Not sure why. Sad day.

I also have read reports that this is a terribly boring town with little to see or do, few available girls, and very hot weather. Last winter, I stayed in Nong Khai on the Thai side of Mekong River as part of a visa run to Laos. I thought about visiting the town of Savannahket but a quick review of Wikipedia and Wikitravel convinced me not to include this place on the Lao portion of my journey. Nong Khai was largely unappealing and not very exciting either but it served its purpose as it's directly across from the Lao border and only about a thirty minute drive to Vientiane.
Instead I traveled on the Vang Vieng, which frankly for this traveler did not equal the hype about the place. Poor infrastructure, inadequate night life, and very little mongering. At night, I would see a random stray on the street but their sexual orientation was hard to determine so did not engage. I think extra services were available at most of the massage joints but these were all quite shoddy looking and expensive for a general massage.
I took a guided kayak trip, which was ok but nothing sensational. The infamous beer bars by the river have been toned down due to an extraordinary amount of injuries and deaths to young drunken backpackers over the last several years so saw little of that type of activity. Some of the water slides into the river have been torn down as well, which contributed to the fatalities as you could easily hit an unseen rock in low water situations. It was Criminal that it took the local authorities so long to address this situation.

I just had one night and two days in Savannakhet, planned two days but could not handle the excitement. Rained the whole time, a monsoon, and streets were flooded. Night bus both ways from Vientiane, actually quite comfortable and slept well. Arrives so early though 5:30, in the rain.
Went to the hotel with a drunk tuk tuk driver. Hotel was full and he took me to another, rear ending a girl on a motobike. Nobody hurt but I felt bad for the girl.
Town is dead and sleepy. Only falang I could see are shady looking chain-smoking tatted up Visa Runners. Dregs of the Western World, no wonder Thailand does not want them anymore.
Nothing going on, maybe due to rain? Looked for massages found two places, girl quality very low so did not. Went to Hoong Thip nightclub across from the hotel. It was one of those Zap Anou nightclub business models, nice place but music too loud, mostly empty. About 20 girls who alternate between nightclub and KTV upstairs. Pay 35,000 kip for a beer, 80,000 kip to sit with a girls and 2000 baht ST and 3000 Baht LT. Too much of a rip off, not for me, I'm used to 150,000-250,000 KIP so I just had a beer. Can not understand why anybody would pay even the high end of Bangkok prices in an impoverished country. Interestingly, I was outside and saw a girl arrive and she had to pay Mamasan 20,000 kip to enter and sit.
No tuk tuk around at all and no taxis. Doorman tried to phone a taxi but none available! Said the fuck shacks were 6 km out of town. By that time its 11:30. Went to hotel for reception to call a taxi and he could not find one either! I left a day early could not handle the place. Gives me a great appreciation of Vientiane and Vang Vieng.
Next day I wanted to go to the market, another drunk tuk tuk driver quoted 500 baht for a 2 km ride. WTF. Its that kind of place, of course I said no not so politely. Spent a lot of time in the hotel room on my phone.
There is a special economic zone outside town with lots of women in manufacturing jobs so that area or the fuck shacks are worth a look if its not fucking raining and you can actually get a taxi.

Its a numbers game. For every five Laos girls chosen in this way: one will be a good performer, three mediocre but acceptable and one a failure. None will be spectacular.
Get them drunk first for better performance or at least easier compliance.
