Walked to the place indicated by the given google coordinates. It's a really dirty place. There are two places with a big Lao Beer sign: one is a wholesale shop, the other is some sort of food selling shop. I don't know whether it can be called a bar. There was one lady in her 40's, I guess, in the second shop. May be she understood the purpose of my visit. She smiled and tried to say there was no one at this place. She went inside and came after some time to see whether I was still there. She went inside again. Then, I left. It was no use staying there.

Those shops you mentioned are before the mentioned coordinates. And are just shops.

But. Good news. Update, confirmed:

That road is having major work done on it. That bar moved a little further down that road, and am not sure if they are in full operation yet, but there is a second beer bar just before the new location (you'll see the first one from there), recognize it by the curtain of spinning empty beer Lao cans surrounding the open sitting area, and is at.

Both were good. They maybe will ask for tip, but you don't have to give. You could also tell them in advance 200 k + 50 k tip at end if you happy.

Place called Karaoke 79 has just put up the "notorious" Karaoke / Massage big sign and a photo of the entertainment space. I think it is and was operating as a restaurant during daytime on the front terrace. Its just next door from a very nice gym on the main road very close to city center. Definitely needs further investigation at night, it was open during day with very little activity and is not a discrete location; Big school one block away and many shops. So didn't go in.

I will be in Savannakhet at the end of June. I may bring a semipro from Isaan, or leave her in Mukdahan. If I don't bring her, it sounds from the earlier reports here that downtown near the plaza and its hotel is where it's at. Appears that the beer bars near there have new talent, Viet and Lao alike. I missed any reports of cheaper hotels or guest houses where you can bring a girl. Anything on that?

If you're in town and you've got a bit of spare time, don't waste it searching out possible spinners in the massage places around town. They all over-charge and under-deliver.

Tuk tuks are hard to find in town, particularly after dark, but you can easily get to the chicken farms just outside town. Besides, the walk will do you good.

Everybody knows where the old airstrip is so head out onto the main road running beside it. With the airstrip on your left hand side and heading north towards Luang Prabang you will come to a small street on the left at the end of the runway. Continue another 50 yards past there and turn down the first street on the right. Follow it for about 400 yards until it forks. Take the right hand fork. There are a number of chicken farms just down the road on the right. They are lit up at night so you can't miss them.

Just remember you're in an area full of foreigners and you never know who'll be watching. Don't forget you're still covered by your home country's laws. There might be a few tiddlers around so be prepared to throw them back.

Then he says he "probably dropped another 500 K" - for dinner for a crowd of girls. That's around $60. Vang Vieng is not that cheap.

It's great that you gave us a report on VV but it would also be helpful if you were more "accurate" with the prices you paid. From my experience, if the fun you described cost you a mere $120 usd, then you got out of it very very well.

I was in Viet Vang for a couple of days in early Jan. I knew it as a backpacker destination but hadn't done much research beyond that. I didn't even check out this board beforehand so really didn't know what to expect. My plan was to chill for a few days, tube down the river, and just go with the flow. On my way, I saw one massage shop that looked open. It was farther down the road that runs parallel to the river. I think it was called Lattana Massage or something similar. I walked in and it was very quiet. The lady who met me wasn't a knockout but she had a nice body. I decided to go for another Lao massage. She led me to an area in the back with rooms separated by curtains. She told me to take my clothes off and showed me the towel. When I realized there weren't any massage clothes to put on, I had a good feeling. She gave me a pretty decent back massage and when I flipped one thing led to the other and she started a HJ. After a few minutes she stopped and asked if I wanted sex, which of course I agreed to. She got a condom and we boned right in the shop. A couple other massage girls had come back to the shop at that point and were sitting just on the other side of the thin curtain as we were going at it. Go inside motel compound, you'll see a big pink sign with Lao text and a photo of lady (Massage sign), corridor on left side will lead you to rooms with girls. I was there during daytime, were 3 girls 25-30 yo, wanted 200,000 kip.

Wasn't what I was looking for today. But facility is good.

So, went there during daytime. Its a hotel called "Villa Muang Swa" adjacent to it is Muang Swa nightclub / Karaoke.

Now they have big legit looking Massage signs facing the street. Went to the hotel desk, they smilingly told me no real massage just boom boom.

Was only one girl there when I was there 14:00, she was attractive 25 yo. Wanted 250,000 kip. ST. But I wasn't in the mood. During the night I remember there were many girls.

The advantage of this place: probably closest and easiest access from old town, can do it with a bicycle. I'm guessing they also have best facility for ST since it's in the hotel (I didn't ask if it was extra, but I'm guessing not).
