I can now confirm that the number 1 place for quality of facility and quality girls in 18-20 year old range is the Two bars in the student area. Though the bar is on the street level, due to it being on a hill, they have ST rooms inside down stairs. 200,000 kip. LT also available (was offered but didn't ask price). One bar has a "Happy Bar" in English sign, the other (next door) a big Pepsi sign. I went to Pepsi bar during daytime, is quiet. At night the bars are quite active.

For quality facility quiet and discreet and quality ladies in 24-30 year old range (day and night) the best are the small brothel (Massage sign 19.9081190, 102.1675890) and the Vietnamese brothel (Karaoke / Massage black sign 19.910717, 102.1691180) both on the fringes of the city but in opposite directions.

The worst place in my opinion is the chicken Farm. Dirty, unhygienic. I feel like I'm in a pigsty. I absolutely hate that place.

I didn't also like the quality of girls (18's) on the road reported earlier next to Chicken Farm. And the small bar with massage sign (outside town).

The Vietnamese brothel next to the stadium (19.8725480, 102.1325598) would be my third choice after student area and the city fringes brothels.

Place called Karaoke 79 has just put up the "notorious" Karaoke / Massage big sign and a photo of the entertainment space. I think it is and was operating as a restaurant during daytime on the front terrace. Its just next door from a very nice gym on the main road very close to city center. Definitely needs further investigation at night, it was open during day with very little activity and is not a discrete location; Big school one block away and many shops. So didn't go in.

I've provisionally booked into Lotus Villa (but can still cancel OK), since my ideal would be in the old quarter plus easy entry with guests.

With little activity here for LP, I've answered my own post by some research which I'm happy to share.

Since I'm mainly interested in the old town, I emailed 3 hotels, on the basis that I'd be booking a room for 2 but traveling alone:

Pakhongthong Villa -- "Yes, you can have 2 people stay any night and will have breakfast for 2 at no extra charge. Just to be discreet".

Peninsula Villas -- "Of course your friend can join, and if stay overnight we also provide breakfast for her with out any charge. But you should let our reception know before. "

Lotus Villa -- still no reply, so probably not GF.

I'll be there in January and will let you know how it goes!

Had my first experience in Luang Prabang. Utterly forgettable.

Had a tuktuk driver take myself and 2 buddies to a grotty house outside of time. I guess it was the aforementioned chicken farm. Went inside and 4 girls were interoduced to us by the Papasan. Opening asking price was 500 k, got that down to 200 k for 1 hour, which the papa collected upfront. Only 1 decent looker, my 2 buddies declined so it was up to me to do the honourable thing and sneak off to her bedroom. BJ? No. Kissing No. Different positions, No. Pulling my hosepipe like she was milking a cow. After 20 minutes of very boring missionary, she decided she'd had enough. This cause my excitement to totally dissipate.

I got dressed and went back in to the seating area to complain and ask for a refund. The papasan responded by going in to the kitchen to collect a machete. We decided it was time to leave, but we'd have 6 beers by then which we didn't pay for, so I guess my net loss was 120 k.

Still, overall a very crap experience. Going to try the Vietnamese place next. Hope it is a little better.

Thanks for the great info on chicken shacks etc which has helped me get my plan together for a visit to LP and then V in January, a newbie to Laos.

There's quite a bit of info here on the GF accommodation options in V - (seems like almost anywhere that isn't top end of the market should be OK and I'm thinking of Inter-city). But not so much info for LP- in fact, going back a bit I see one post saying: "Does anyone have any info on GF hotels in LP. The only recent one I found RTFFing was My Dream Boutique Resort" -- so I tried it and, wouldn't you know, it's not available for my dates!?

All going well, it looks like I'll be taking an occasional LT from one of the shacks, and I don't want any chance of being stopped in the hotel foyer!

And BTW, I'm spoiling myself with a total of 10 days to be spent between Laos (4 or 5?) and probably Cambodia (5 or 6?) - a bit of sightseeing but mostly hobbying! I'll have been through Saigon & Hanoi, returning to Saigon for the flight home. How to split LP, V, PP, Snooky? (I've only ever been to PP out of that list).
