    As you are probably aware, there are no direct flights from the USA to Macau. If you are looking for the shortest duration connection, it is either USA to Shanghai or USA to HKG. Both are interesting cities with good food and nightlife. HKG is the obvious entry point from west coast USA because ferries run every half hour from Hong Kong Island & Kowloon and semi hourly from HKG airport straight to Macau. If your plane lands at HKG airport in the morning or afternoon, you can go straight to Macau the same day without going through HKG immigration. The ferry takes around 60 minutes.

    HKG to Macau Ferry Schedule: https://www.turbojet.com.hk/en/routing-sailing-schedule/hk-airport-macau/sailing-schedule-fares.aspx

    On the other hand if your intended trip is longer than a week, I would think about checking out BKK / Pattaya or Manila / AC as your entry point to Asia and spend some pleasurable time in either of these mongering destinations before flying to Macau. The PI is only 90 minutes away and is a better punter destination than HKG. BKK is 2. 5 hours from Macau and is my favorite punting destination in Asia. A great itinerary would be 7 days or longer in BKK / Pattaya & 5 nights in Macau.

    I'd say flying from US to Shanghai would be the easiest. And then from Shanghai to either Hong Kong or Shenzhen.

    You almost have to fly in to HKG first. Eva air stop in Taipei first than to Macau.

    Lately I have noticed that Agoda is offering weekday rates for a standard room at Rio Hotel for $92/ night (deluxe room for $102/ night) combined with a pay later / free cancellation option. That's 713 hk /790 hk for the monetary impaired ha ha. This is a very good deal, maybe too good.

    I also notice the Grand Lapa, formerly a Mandarin Hotel, is going for $110/ night on Trivago. This is a very tempting offer. The Lapa is a class above the Holiday Inn (Macau city center) or the Rio Hotel.

I spend most of my time running around, so I only use the room for sleeping, so it's not worth it for me to splurge. The best thing about Rio is the location. Rio Sauna is my favorite, and it's only an elevator ride away. You can also walk to the other good saunas like East Spa and Familia Nobre. I think the Holiday Inn and the Lisboa (not Grand) start around $125 a night, so at $160, the difference is worth it to me to stay at the Rio Hotel.
    American dollars again? Here the currency is HK$ or MOP
    I translate that for those not interested in US $
    160 should read HK $ 1240
    210 = HK $ 1628.

    As far as hotels are concerned, the most important thing is a location in Macau City walking distance to ALL the saunas as opposed to a hotel on the Cotai Strip. There are many excellent choices at the top end like the MGM Grand, the Mandarin (next to the MGM), and the Wynn. All these hotels are great. I would give the MGM a slight edge over the Wynn because the MGM has 2 restaurants I really like. The Rossio and Imperial Court and the MGM has the Lion's Club, a bar frequented by talented Indonesian FL's. But it really does not matter which of these 3 hotels you stay at because they are right next to one another and all of impeccable high quality.

    Personally I stay at cheaper hotels when I am in Macau. I do not hold back on the cost of the sauna girls, that is an annual indulgence of mine, but I do try to compensate and economize a little when it comes to my Macau hotel selection. Therfore, I usually stay either at the Holiday Inn (Macau City) or the Lisboa (not the Grand Lisboa). Both hotels are priced a little over $100/ night. As a Intercontinental Priority Club member I receive free room upgrades and earn points redeemable at all Intercontinental and Holiday Inn Hotels worldwide. The Holiday Inn Macau City (not the HI on the Cotai Strip) is a modest hotel, but the rooms are clean, the staff is helpful, and the location is close to everything important. The Lisboa is a little fancier and thus a slightly nicer hotel. It was fun to stay there when the Lisboa Racetrack was still open. In any case the Lisboa is a nice 4* hotel (be sure to reserve a west wing room if you decide to stay there).

    So that is the wide variance of choice available in Macau. You can spend large and stay in real style at the MGM, Mandarin, or Wynn or go thrifty and stay at the more modest Holiday Inn or Lisboa. Of course there are a number of hotels priced in between these two price points. Check Trip Adviser for more information on those, but be sure to stay in the same general vicinity. For example, I think the Sofitel, although a very nice middle priced hotel is too far from the action for my taste. It is a long walk to and from Rio for example. Instead check out the Grand Emperor Hotel or Star World if you are looking for higher quality than the Holiday Inn/Lisboa but don't want to spend as much as the MGM/Wynn. You might also consider staying at the Rio Hotel. I never stayed there, but I hear it is of similar quality as the Holiday Inn and as far as location is concerned, just take the elevator down to the spa.

    Did they open a military base in Macau? Otherwise why would any Americans be anywhere there.

    I'll bet these are the same girls that are on WeChat, and I'm sure you can get them down to 1000 HKD. They mostly stay in the complex at one of the hotels, at least that's what they say.
