KTM Komuter train from Butterworth to Padang Besar (border) is RM 11.4 and takes less than 2 hours. Malaysian and Thai Immigration for train passengers are on the platform level inside Padang Besar station. Thai train ticket office is next door on the same level. Malaysian train ticket counter is upstairs. Trains to Hat Yai depart 8:55,14:40,17:00, and take about an hour according to Thai Railway website:
