I was in Penang for several days this October, and I checked out a few places that were mentioned in this thread. *HOCK AUN HOTEL*

After reading several references on here about the Hock Aun "Hotel" and the lovable "Cherry" who works there, I thought I'd test the waters myself and see what I thought. The Hock Aun Hotel is pretty easy to find. It's situated about a stone's throw away from the Gama Supermarket on Jalan Dato Keramat. The hotel is on the opposite side of the street of the supermarket. It's maybe a two-minute walk from the supermarket. Once I got there, the place looked pretty close to what I expected. It's basically a small, dingy brothel with several small rooms. The entire hotel must have a total of 15 to 20 individual rooms. Most of the rooms have their doors open, which means the prostitute inside is available and not currently servicing another punter. I spotted Cherry at the first door on the right, right next to the entrance. I'm not all that picky when it comes to dirt cheap mongering, but man, Cherry's pretty damn unattractive to me. There were no other places on the street with "sun" in their name (in English or Chinese) , so I figured it had to be the place fellow ISG'ers were referring to. I went in around 9 PM, and there were four women inside: three youngish women who I assumed were bar girls and one older woman who I assumed was the mamasan. Other than me, there were no other customers in the "cafe." None of the girls working there seemed the least bit interested in my presence. I ordered a Red Bull just so I could sit around for a while and size up the place and the situation. Other than handing me my Red Bull, nobody interacted with me. *CATHAY HOTEL*

The Cathay Hotel is located literally right next door to the Waldorf Hotel on Lebuh Leith, so it's incredibly easy to find. My impression of the place is it is basically a much more upscale version of the Hock Aun Hotel. Many dolled up youngish women sit in their rooms waiting for punters to arrive. However, unlike Hock Aun, Cathay has annoying papasans who pressure you to go with a girl. Using my Mandarin skills, I asked to see a few of the girls, particularly the ones from China. A few papasans showed me several different girls in different rooms. One was from Macau, one was from Shanghai, one was from Vietnam, and another was from Thailand. All of the girls were very attractive, but the papasans' prices were way too high. I could also sense that the girls were very likely to "starfish" in bed. They just didn't strike me as the types to deliver good service. I admit that I could be wrong. One papasan initially quoted me 300 ringgit, and when I started to walk out the door, he then quoted me 200 ringgit. The only way I'd return to the Cathay Hotel is if the price was 150 ringgit or lower. Otherwise, I don't really see the point in ever going back.
